  1. Me too. I forget major things sometimes until I re-read the book. I also forget why I liked it and it makes it hard to write reviews. Maybe I should stick a notebook inside the front of each book I read.
  2. A fan? Fairytales were the only thing that kept me alive as a child. Real life wasn't worth thinking about! I loved Brothers Grimm and other such books that I had. Maybe that is why I love fantasy so much. From fairytales to Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl to Tolkien and Harry Potter..
  3. I am not familiar with many poets either. I have undoubtedly read many good poems for which I haven't noted the author. From school I liked Tennyson's The Charge of The Light Brigade, John Keats and Robert Browning and I love Shakespeare. I should pay more attention.
  4. Welcome to the forum. Have fun!
  5. Welcome to the forum!
  6. Hi. This is a great forum for book lovers. We have reading circles, challenges, and advice, even a writers area too, but we also all read our own books. Enjoy..
  7. Dickens' books are certainly not children's books. Some are very harrowing and incredibly complex. The films may be aimed at children in some ways but I don't think children would fully understand them. As for penguin books I thought they were children's books until recently because I had a lot of penguin children's books as a child and I haven't seen many adult ones. Maybe that is why your friends thought they were children's books..
  8. Hiya. Welcome to the forum!
  9. I have got that one, and was wondering whether it would be different. Thanks Maureen.
  10. I have Diary of a Nobody Kylie. Glad to see you liked it.
  11. My tastes it seems will always lie in fantasy. I constantly find myself day dreaming about Hogwarts and Middle Earth, but I have discovered many new authors since being here, such as Maggie O'Farrell, Raven Hart and Holly A. Harvey. Raven Harts books have got me interested in that world. Empress Orchid was a step into a different culture, and I love the reading circle too, when I get the chance to take part.
  12. Welcome Lauren. Enjoy the forum.
  13. Hi Anne! Welome to the forum.
  14. When I was younger I bought all the MAgic Faraway Tree books, but I don't think I have bought any other full sets except Harry Potter (and I will certainly look at J.Ks other work). I bought a fair few Grisham's after the first one I read, and I will look at Maggie O'Farrell's other books, but not sure if I'll buy all if them. I want all Tolkien's books, something which I am working on, and I also want Raven Harts other books after reading the vampire's seduction.
  15. Thanks Judy. Oh well, the life of a wife/partner and mother. Busy busy busy
  16. I won't get any holidays, but we did go camping for one night last wekend and I was still reading Harry Potter. I took The House At Riverton too, but by the time Katie went to sleep in the tent it was 9:30 so I didn't have much time. Then the next day by the time I had myself and three kids up, been into town for some food for lunch, cooked and cleaned up, I was aboutt o relax with my book when OH said it was time to pack up!
  17. I used to love Enid Blyton's books, Noddy, Famous Five, Secret Seven, The Faraway Tree, and always the thing I loved was a sense of adventure. I was just about to say that thats was all, that I never though of the Famous Five as dierespectful, but I remember now admiring George's rebellion agains their guradians, however, I never really thought much of my parents anyway, as they did not act in ways which brought respect form their children. I think that the reason a lot of children these days are disrespectful is because society has gone that way. The various governments (mainly socialist) have made society move towards family breakdown. I don't think this has anything to do with reading books at all.
  18. What a silly attitude! How boring would it be if everyone had to write what they were told! Also, this attitude suggests that the upper classes are nothing but prim and proper, whereas they probably have more to hide in a lot of cases, and make more interesting stories.
  19. Did eitther of you have any input over the covers for you books?
  20. I am not too good at writing either. I can't express myself very well. I am getting better at it but only when I am in the right mood. I am wondering if that is likely to happen while I am pregnant and trying to put Katie on solids. I shall have to make notes as I go along I suppose and try to read it quickly.
  21. Welcometo the forum:mrgreen:
  22. confession time! I had put my email in wrong! And I thought I had checked! Must have been very tired. Anyway I have The Book of The Courtier. It doesn't sound like an interesting title but the synopsis sounds interesting. I hope it is.
  23. I finally got to the posting! Great book.. That couldn't have happened Dumbledore explained in book five that it could have been either of them mentioned in the prophecy, but Voldemort by acting on it, chose Harry to be the one. I wanted to know those things too, and what the mai characters did for a living. Rereading the books before book 7 certainly helped, although i didn't get to book 6 and need to read that bit with Draco and Dumbledore again. I thought it was interesting how Aberforth wanted Harry to give up. It really made me think. What happens if you do give up? Can you really give up fighting for evil for the greater good while you have breath left? I had also wondered whether Voldemort had felt it when the horcruxes were broken and was relieved to find that he didn't. I agree that Neville was great. He really turned himself around over the last couple of years. The killing of the snakewas a bit rushed though after the waiting game for the other horcruxes. Mrs Weasley was so sool. I am glad Bellatrix went. How funy were the Malfoys. I felt like they were sitting amongst the survivors like naughty school kids! All the way through even though Harry has done a lot of growing up, in some way he has been very childish. He is too sentimental I think and happened over his parents and Sirius a lot (quite rightly perhaps). Harry leaned on his godfather, but then in one pivotal moment he became the Godfather (later the parent of course) and with it came responsibilty. |If I remember rightly he really grew up after that. I can't wait to see the films for 6 and7
  24. I thought this too.. I almost wished that too, but they kind of did..
