Must be. I actually dreamt that I had two book tokens in some kind of booklet/newsletter type thing. I spent ages looking round and then bought The House at Riverton. I saw the book clearly on all sides as I pickd it up. Even the blurb was visible. It was somewhat larger than I imagine it to be though, although it was the right thickness.. I shall have to keep a look out for it now!

Last night I dreamt that I bought this book!

Kell, while forum users can use spoiler tags, other people won't, and it is even likely that forum users will let things slip I don't want to know. but it was others that I was talking about. My sister asked me something the other day. She said, "why is film 5 out, and book seven" (after thinking that the same film and book were out). How can the film come out before, or even at the same time as the book?? For some reason she didn't understand this, and yes she is really that dim. You wouldn't believe some of the things she comes out with!

I think that Rowling, in this book, is trying to explain a lot of things. This book needs to catch up with things so that the battle against Voldemort can commence. These things could not have come in earlier books, as it was the wrong time. There are also a lot of questions that come out of reading this book, so by tying up loose ends Rowling, is making the readers less confused.

I must say that all the cheap merchandise hitting the shops annoys me. It is just pointless really, but I'm sure children will disagree. J.Ks writing as got a lot better since the first couple of HPs and she has created a phenomenon. Her style didn't stop her first book becoming such a hit. I can't remember why I got into Harry Potter. I think I wanted to read them after i heard about them because they sounded interesting, but it wasn't until in 2003 when I asked a housemate at uni if I could borrow his copy of the Philosophers Stone that I got into them. I now love them, and that is because I find them fascinating, not because everybody else does. Whenever I see a film or read a book, even for the second or fifth time, I can't wait to immerse myself in Harry Potter's world, which is very real to me. This goes so farthat now and again I look round the website and play the games or read things just to get my fix:lurker:. I will still read the book as soon as I get it though. I can't bear thinking that people will read it before me because I know it will be talked about very soon after release..

I have completely forgotten. I have been so busy with getting the house sorted out (it is a mess), and of course seeing to Katie every five minutes means not much gets done. Maybe next century when the house is junk free and completely redecorated, fixed up and furnished and the children grow up I might get chance to sit down. Failing that I might find a free afternoon nearer to the present when I won't feel guilty about the mountain of work that needs doing here.

There is time yet Carm:)

I love the Harry Potter stories. I too, find myself believing that Hogwarts exists, but then I believe middle earth exists too. I'm going to see the film at the IMAX(3D) tonight and I can't wait! I'm furiously trying to get through the previous books before next Saturday. I wanted to cue up at midnight, but as we have ordered it on OHs credit card we shall have to go down on Sat with the kids.

hmmm. I was recommended This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. It is an amazing book about the other side. Gods angels battle against the demons for humanity by manipulating human thoughts (and therefore actions), but it is rather long (about 500pg). If you think you would like something cutural we read Empress Orchid by Anchee Min last year for the reading circle. Again, this is a great story and is something different.

Some notes on using this section...
Icecream replied to Michelle's topic in Book Blogs - Discuss your reading!
Thanks for the tip Kell. I have been editing my first post too. I don't read many books, but I may follow this example next year. -
This a very interesting thread. Titles are strange things. They can say a lot about a book, or only a little. They can be completely abstract (seemingly?) from the book, and can even be a puzzle provided by the author. So when you ask what there is in a title, I would say, considering all this along with people's reactions as stated, there is quite a lot. That better make sense!! Some books I have looked at because of the title, but checked the blurb or looked through it to find out more, however, I recently picked up An Advancement of Learning by Reginald Hill purely because the title sounded intellectual ()! It does look like an interesting book though.

Exactly how I feel. I love light reads now I have a baby, but I still make myself read deeper things.. There are plenty of great authors out there for something different. Any idea what kind of book you want?

Urggh! I hate those things! Reading is a great way to stop falling asleep while feeding a bubbly. It also passes the time much quicker (not that I don't love gazing at bubs for ages!)
-
I can sympathise. I have the same problem with sandwich's, but not while reading. I'm usually feeding the baby while I eat. Dinner is messier!
-
True, but when I get a bad impression of a scene it is really bad (i.e far to small and dark and even too plain). The thing is that when I realise my mistake the image is stuck in my head and I can't change it.

I just typed a great review of the above book and then hit the back button on my mouse! Noooooooooo! Now I can't be bothered because I have a cut on my finger, so this will be short and sweet. Keith has had a very interesting life and this book will appeal to anyone interested in searching for people, the life of a minister, agriculture, oppression of parents to children, and many other things. Keith is a family man. His book of course, talks about the local area of Burnley, and also Thornton, Ireland and other places. It is only a short book, so although the area detailing his ministry training and life in the church nay bore some people, the fullness of his life, the story behind his adoption and the finding of his family with his wife alongside him makes a heartwarming story.

Yes it is. I am being to slow. I have to read more or I will never catch up in time for book 7!

I do that sometimes. Wow! I do that too! Strange.. Although I have started to picture that properly now I'm re-reading. I still can't get the entrance hall right though. That is me to a tea. I have to concentrate properly, which I have trained myself to do, but I sometimes have to be in the right mood, which doesn't fit with the fact that I have to read when i can due to having a baby who inevitably demands my attention when I want to read.
