I loved the David Tennant series, but was more interested in the old Casanoca's explanations of what he did. I missed some parts though and would love to read it. I wonder if anyone on here has read it and thinks it's worth it?

I was like this too a few years ago. I was going through something very difficult and lost concentration so much with reading that it affected my coursework. The only books I did manage to enjoy reading were Harry Potters and The Lord of The Rings. I think I enjoyed them because the fantasy provided an escape where I felt safe.

I prefer the blue Wordsworths too Kell. It was the copy I chose recently when buying a classic over Penguin.

I do that too, go to the nearest 10 pg or 100 pg if the chapter is just too long and I need to go to sleep. I also look to see how many pages or chapters are in a book and work out how much I might be able to read each day. When it comes to never throwing a book out, what about all the books I have found upstairs with pages missing (not my books)? No one wants a book with a page missing. I have had to let go of most of my quirks, such as never putting a book face down. When the children are constantly calling I have rush about so I tend to not care much, unless it belongs to someone else, or is a special book, or hardback. I could never be that mean to my Harry Potter hardback books.

That sounds lovely. For some reason I'm always thinking of chicken at the moment. Nice and simple today. The girls were fed in Tesco. I left their dinner bag at home so they had some chicken pasta and melon. I'm eating a pizza at the moment.

Wow, all this curry talk is making me hungry. Maybe this baby is a girl after all:lol:. We had some sausages left over from last night. I had a sausage butty. Obviously the baby is telling me I can't have sausage and mash two nights consecutively. The girls had sweet potato with theirs.

That is a great idea Purple. It would probably work for me. I have a terrible memory and I would love to take notes so I can write better reviews and get more out of the book, but carrying my book around all day is enough with the girls without having to remember a notebook too. In fact I need to find all my notebooks because they have in fact mostly disappeared. I find it useful to note down routines for the children, lists of things we need and other things to do with the children and housework. I have notebooks for all different things somewhere. I must get more organised.

Tintin - I am sure you could say that about many text books, certainly any reigious ones, but the point of text books is not necessarily about hard facts. I have plenty of tect books and also plenty of christian books. I never class any of my christian books as fiction or non-fiction. If you wish to then I am sure you will find plenty of people on the net who will have a religious debate with you, but making such opinionated personal comments is not really the way is it? Kate - My own prayer life used to be full and productive. It is true that prayer has answers and it certainly makes you feel better the more you do it (and the more people are involved). At that time in my life I was surrounding myself with prayer both on my own, and in various meetings through the week, but since I left uni and had the girls I am finding things like prayer and bible study difficult, so if a book can help get me back on track then I willl try it. I might seek this one out at some point. You have at least inspired me to look for something I can use. Do you think the book might help me pray with the children? I'm used to praying with other christians, but out of touch with praying with non-christians.

I will echo Kell. I absolutely love reading and when I get the time and a good book I can read very quickly, but the more children you have the more time is taken up. I will have three children soon. I don't know how many books I will get through this year or next. There is a lot I really want to read in the near future but the children have to come first of course. My cornet practise has to be second because I have a top position in the band and books just have to be fit in where I can. I have always enjoyed reading. Reading keeps me sane. It gives me wisdom. I love it. Actually a lot of my reading time is spent reading with the children which is more important while they are young. Children learn a lot during the first few years of life.

I got my Dawn French, and Philip Pullman trilogy. I am very happy.

This was read on classic fm tonight, but I missed most of it as it was on at dinner time whe I was busy with the girls. I'm reading this, but with christmas prep, band jobs and what not I am not finding much time to read at the moment. I want this place looking decent for the guests on Wednesday.

Numbers wise, my years are getting worse for reading, having the girls. Next year I'll be lucky if I read anything, but I have read some different books, such as a A Small Part of History,as well as some favourites and classics. There have been thought provoking reads and one or two not very good ones. I have a few ideas for types of books I haven't read before and would like to, so i might get round to organising that next year.

I used to be in your position, a student with not much money, or cooking ability beyond using the oven and a few other things. I think the best thing I could make was spag bol. Since I had children though I have tried loads. Get some recipe books. You'll soon get the hang of what goes together. My spice cupboard is overflowing now, and I'm always adding things to dishes. It is only two years since I finished my degree and I have completely changed my eating habits. Sausage and mash tonight with brocolli and onion gravy. I am just thinking that next week will be full of roast dinners and bubble and squeak. Better get some light for Monday and Tuesday.

I cooked a gorgeous roast beef topside tonight, with a herb (thyme and fennel) and crumb crust, plus roasted celeriac, sweet potato, shallots and carrots, and made the gravy from the juices. I haven't done gravy like that before. I opened a nice bottle of 15% red too. Loads of washing up. I'm glad that there's plenty left for tomorrow to make bubble and squeak.

I totally agree. I love reading scores. You can get loads out of them, although it works best when you heard it played at some point during, before or after reading too. I think the same applies with Shakespeare. The texts and the plays have plenty to say either by themselves or in tandem.

I finished In Search of Adam a few days ago but it might take me a while to write a review for it. After a book that emotional I have gone onto a christian book Before You Hit The Wall by Danny Lehman, a book about self discipline, lent to me by Kate. Kate I'm sorry for taking so long with it. it won't take long to read then you can have it back.

I've emailed my wishlist to my Mum. She rarely checks it though, but she did say she would look. I'm not hopeful though. I told her I wanted the Dark Materials trilogy. She went to Preston couple of days later (with my sister who was in the room when I said it) and went into Waterstones but couldn't remember what I had said. Either that or she did get it. Mum has a strange habit of telling us, in not so many words, what we have got for christmas. I also have various books that have gone on my want list this year, including Dawn French's book, The Forgotten Garden, a western, and others. I really want Hans Urs Von Balthasars collection of four books entitled theo logic, but haven't asked for those yet.

This sounds like an interesting read, at the very least worth a look. Even those who do have faith question it sometimes and ask questions about life. This sounds like either a book that doesn't speak to people very well, or a book that speaks to people in different ways and may depend on ones experiences.

I have some that I was bought when in my teens, but I don't remember reading them, as well as some othe point books. They are sitting on the children's shelves, so maybe they will read them.

They are addictive. So much going on.
