  1. Hello, I've never read any westerns. Has anyone got any recommendations I could start with ? Thanks Tracey
  2. I've just finished Inkspell (the second book) and thought it was much, much better than Inkheart. I'm glad I didn't let Inkheart put me off. I've just ordered the third one from the library. I saw the film after I'd read Inkheart and its the only time I thought the film was better than the book. It cut out all the faffing about in the middle. Robson
  3. When I heard that Denzel Washington was going to play Lincoln Rhyme in 'The Bone Collector' I was amazed. I had it in my head that he was white. I actually went back through the book to see if there was any reference I missed. There wasn't. I still don't picture Denzel Washington when I read a Lincoln Rhyme novel even after seeing the film !
  4. For me it was 'On Chesil Beach' I kept waiting for something to happen !
  5. Hello, Saw this on the BBC website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7776046.stm Interesting ! I don't think I've lied about what I've read. Its much to easy to get caught out ! Robson
  6. I have only read Inkheart. I've got Inkspell on my TBR pile. I thought it started and ended well but the middle seemed like padding. They were captured and escaped, captured and escaped, some of them were captured and escaped, someone else was captured and escaped etc. The idea is a brilliant one and I think it will make a good film. Robson
  7. Thanks for your help. She loved The Dark Materials but I don't think she's read the others. I'll investigate ! Thanks again Robson
  8. Hi, How about something with 1000 in the title ? For example "Time Out" 1000 books to change your life (you could probably write this though !) or 'The Year 1000; an Englishmans year' by Lacey or even 'A 1000 nudes; a history of erotic photography from 1839 to 1939' by Koetzle !! Robson
  9. She's 17. It doesn't have to be vampires but she does like fantasy books. The Lost Years of Merlin series by Barron look good. Has anyone read them ? Thanks Robson
  10. Hello, My daughter has read and re-read the Stephenie Meyer series and loved them. Has anyone any suggestions for anything similar that I could get her for Christmas ? (Bit early I know !) Thanks for any help Robson
  11. It said on The One show tonight that 85% of women were attracted to men who could talk about literature. There may be a great deal more male readers over the next few months ! Some people may change their minds about reading being a waste of time ! Robson
  12. People who don't read don't realise how it can help you in your life. When I was going through a messy divorce reading was my escape. It helped me cope because I could switch off from my life for a bit. Baron de Montesquieu said 'I have never found any distress that an hour's reading did not relieve' and I think he's right. (Read this on a Waterstones bookmark !) Robson
  13. Just saying hello....and how are you settling in? Love your avatar by the way

  14. I drink Rooibos Orange and its really nice. Got just a hint of orange in it. The brand is Lord Nelson and I buy it from Lidl. Robson
  15. For me it was 'Goodnight Mr Tom' by Michelle Magorian. Cried at the TV film too. Robson
