  1. No. How would they know? Only in pencil though as far as I recall.
  2. Sorry, I]m a bit busy at the mo so this is in bits.. The Mist Over Pendle reminded me of Jane Austen, as it is set around the same sort of time/culture from the language used. Robert Neill is clearly in touch with his feminine side. This could be influence from his research though, as this is based on true events. I wonder how much of the style is him and how much is infuence from other texts.. I found the book entertaining because their are some very jovial ans sardonic characters. The mood and language of the culture portrayed had me actually talking like the characters at times too. Thee were some things to do with fashion that I had to look up, but once I knew what a kirtle and a sarcenet were I could better picture the characters, and it did not hinder my enjoyment at all.
  3. I also stopped reading more or less altogether while at uni. I read LOTR and the Harry Potters, plus Susan Howatch's Heartbreaker, and a few others I think.
  4. Somebody bought bubs Peter Rabbit's ABC 123 by Beatrix Potter when she was born and I gave it back to have it written in. We have so many books from OHs previous children ad I wanted her to know that this one is hers. I always wrote in the library books at uni. I don't think I have written in any of my textbooks though.
  5. The only time I have written in books is also in text books, at uni, excpt my bible. As I have mentioned before, the bible that goes with me eveywhere is in a terrible state and has hundreds of annotations. Sme are from uni, some from Christian Union, some from church and some of my own. I always keep a pen and pencil inside the handy holds in my bible case. Is there a geek smile??
  6. Ah, the life of a student. I miss it. The joy of going into the library coffee shop, or one near the library.. The places you can find to read books..
  7. There is always renewal Wraith, which is made even better by the library online service. I agree with you about possession though. I don't like taking books back, but then I can't afford all the books i want either. I used to get my books from Amazon as a student (both fiction and non). I would also buy them at the student union bookstall or the christian union bookstall, or at various shops when wondering the city centre (I found the supermakets good). Since leaving uni I have been reading books I already have, or going to the library, or borrowing from other people. That is mainly because people have offered me books and I have too many to read on my shelves anyway. I would buy them if I really wanted too. If I get through my shelves, there are a few I would like to buy, but I have plenty to get on with for now. The next book buy will probably be Harry Potter (I'm actually planning to get it for my birthday) and that will most likely be from Smiths.
  8. I have now finished The Mist Over Pendle. It was a great read. I loved reading a story set where I live. It was a slow start, but once it got past the first couple of chapters this was a very entertaining book. The story is of a local legend concerning the pendle witches. Nineteen witches were tried and hung in the days when Lancashire was still Lancaster. The book enlightened me, but I can't say why without spoiling it. It was also very funny, having as the book says, a sardonic nature in some of it's characters, however, there is also a dark element and some of the characters are rathe plain, but never dull. If anyone is interested in understanding witchcraft, or knows the area of Pendle, I recommend it. I am now going to finish My Sister's Child by Lyn Andrews, which I started before christmas, but ended up reading other books. I borrowed it from my mother in law, so i better finish it now.
  9. It depends for me too. I can read and read, but I usually grab a few mins whenever the baby is feeding, then get an hour or so at night if I can.
  10. Lol, Nicky, I know. That's the problem! I'm not finding myself very imaginative at the moment. I'm sure it will come back..
  11. Of course as a student I would often have 20 books on the go, and sometimes on a few different subjects:lol:
  12. Anyone any good ideas for pitta breads?
  13. When Katie was first born I was up in the night, so i started reading a book in the day , and another at night. They were different too. I had The Vampire's Seduction in the bedroom, and The Mist Over Pendle on the coffee table. Now she is slleping through I have gone back to one. I haven't the time to sufficiently read two during the day.
  14. I love the Bronte sisters. Howarth is not too far from where I live, and I have been there a lot. I went round the museum a couple of years ago and found their life stories amazing. I am yet to read their books though. I know I have Jane Eyre upstairs.
  15. Me too. It is the name of our local mental hospital. I even played with the band there once on Rememberance Day. My Mum said there was someone following her around! We haven't done it since.. Maggie, something that intrigues me about authors is age. Some people think you have to wait till you are at least 40 or so before writing. Do you think that age makes a better writer (sorry if I sound impolite I'm not trying to say anything about your age!).
  16. Yes, a good way to get space in a relationship is to immerse in a book. I know I can be very annoying to Drex, so I stay out of his way and also read to keep myself from getting into the erratic state that annoys him.
  17. Sounds great. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on these..
  18. There are alternate methods. There are plenty of therapies that work on people without involving harm or force.
  19. It may seem nicer but they don't even know the extent of damage/change to the brain some of these drugs have. they are messing with identity and also free will. Playing God.
  20. Hello and welcome
  21. We may think that restraining people with straps is immoral, but what they do now instead is just drug them up,which is worse because it messes with the brain. These places should not exist, there are far better ways of dealing with people.
  22. It transpires that halucinations are not actually a sign of madness, so I gues that clears that up..
  23. I do that too, although I too have had lot's of recommendations from here recently.
  24. That's great. I couldn't be bothered going through 20 pages of lists.
  25. Maybe it's the way it's written. There are parts of this one that are confusing.
