  1. That's a shame bobbly bear, it's been lovely here for the last couple of days, and quite mild too. Rained all day Saturday though but since then it's been nice. The trees are beginning to change colour now, and are looking lovely.
  2. Yes it must have been a very strange life, although to their credit Anne and Charlotte did both manage to get out and work abroad for a while. There's a new book out about the Brontes which I read a review of last week, I can't remember what the title is but they sound even stranger than I thought they were. Fascinating though. It's Charlotte's 200th birthday next year so lots of Bronte stuff coming up. Hope the house renovations went well and there's not too much dust to clear up!
  3. I think the paso is my favourite too, along with the tango and Argentine Tango, can't wait to see Jay do that one! I like Halloween week but hope the costumes don't get in the way like they did on Movie Week, with the dancers getting caught up or weighed down by them.
  4. I watched Jay's dance again last night and there were actually a couple of small errors, some hand movements were a bit flappy, but it was still the best dance of the night. I didn't think Peter's rumba was very good, he hardly seemed to do anything. My favourite Paso was the one that Artem did with Fern Britton - don't ask me what Fern was doing but I couldn't take my eyes off him ! I like the Charleston, I think it's a fun dance and still love Kelly's Star Wars take on it from the other week.
  5. I enjoyed Sleepy Hollow, like Ichabod's new haircut not sure about Abby's though. Thought Castle ended well, no cliffhanger so I wondered if they weren't sure if they would get another series when they filmed it?
  6. I know this is an old thread but I only read this recently - I found it hardgoing and pretty tedious on the whole, with a lot of storylines never really going anywhere - Dany is still boring, and Arya seems to have gone back to the beginning with endless training again - it was boring in the first book and it's boring now! Hardly any Jaime either, and yes Jon was a shock but the Lord Commander seems to be one of those positions which, like the King's/Queen's Hand, is risky to say the least, and he did make himself very unpopular. Stannis's death is so vague that it'd be interesting to find out what actually happened, but I think he is gone. Best storyline was Tyrion (as always) and Mormont, another great pairing. But overall a great disappointment, and I think this is the weakest of the books so far.
  7. Just looked at the list that Kylie posted the other week, thanks for the warning about the picture of Pennywise, eek I liked the illustrations though.
  8. Further to my earlier topic, it's probably about 300, and I have a shorter version listed on Library Thing of about 70. I also, like a couple of others on here, have a current mental list of around 5 or 6 books, which should cover a couple of months' reading at a time, and I've found this to be fairly manageable. But sometimes if I'm having a sort out and come across some books by an author who I've lost interest in (eg Patricia Cornwell) then I will have a bit of a clearout and send them either to a charity shop, or to friends who have a charity which is helping to restore an old local property, which is nice as a) I can see exactly where the money goes, and b) it's local so it benefits the local area with open days, community events like concerts and occasional plays in the grounds, and education days for local schools, as well as painting days, archaeology days (there's usually a dig of some sort going on) etc.
  9. I thought Jay's Paso was fab (the music just about worked too) and enjoyed Kelly's jive, I think she and Kevin are so good at "mirroring" each other, and her personality really comes across (and that short wig really suited her). I think Ainsley deserved to go, as he was very stompy although I thought Jeremy would have been in the dance off too. I was surprised at Jamelia being in the dance off at first, but watching it I didn't think she was very good at all, very heavy and her arm movements were very limp, she's much better at the faster dances. Carol's improved a lot, so has Kirsty but I don't think she'll last much longer. I don't like the little "skits" at the beginning of each dance either, just get on with the routine! I'd have given Jay a 10 though.
  10. Oh not one of BJ's best songs, I prefer the Talk Talk (one of the most under-rated bands ever imo) song too, think it would fit better, I think they've used the BJ song before.
  11. What a great list! I'll have to have a think, I've got answers for some of them but a few might take a bit longer to think of, will have to look at my list for the year.
  12. I love the smell of new books, a sort of papery smell. I'm surprised at fried onions though, I'd have thought the smell of frying would put people off a house, I can't bear that smell myself (like the smell you get when you walk past a hot dog stall, ugh). I love the smell of fresh coffee even though I find it undrinkable, and of course chocolate, bread/pastry, fresh cut grass, and that lovely smell you used to get walking into a record shop, which of course you don't get now with CDs!
  13. Hello Amber and welcome, from a fellow Bronte fan.
  14. Which Bon Jovi song is it? I don't watch Take Two, can't stand all the shouting and yelling!
  15. Yes I liked Forever as well, and there was a sweet quirkiness about it which was nice, plus Ioan Gruyfudd is very easy on the eye
  16. I like the way she rarely wrote the same type of story over and over again, yes they are, I suppose, psychological thrillers for the most part, but all the ones I've read so far have been a bit different - ie Gothic, time travel, historical etc.
  17. Just finished A Bone to Pick by Charlaine Harris, an easy entertaining rad in the cosy crime genre. Very undemanding, but with a nice dry sense of humour.
  18. Just seen the trailer and it looks awesome (although one scene did look as if it was shot in a field, probably was!), the mere fact that Han Solo is in it is good enough for me.
  19. Yes his accent wasn't very good! Haven't done spoilers here before so will try to type in "white" so that if you highlight it, you should be able to see it. In the US version the policewoman's husband initially confessed, but then it turned out that their son accidentally killed him, which was how I thought the UK version would turn out.
  20. I hate clowns! Can't think of anything in particular right now though.
  21. That dog is adorable, the sling doesn't look very comfy though! Can't stand the ad with the Audrey Hepburn lookalike, she's got such a smug expression, plus it's been around for years, time to give it a rest. And it obviously doesn't work, as I can't remember what it's for!
  22. Yes I agree about Gracepoint, I much preferred the UK series (sorry!) but funnily enough I thought the US ending was better - that was how I thought the UK version would end (ie the ID of the killer) and I was slightly disappointed by the UK ending, as another series had recently had exactly the same ending, and I thought it was too obvious to do it again. I also thought DT's American casting was a bit odd, I'm assuming it was to give his US career a boost? Most of the cancelled series which I watched had, I think ,come to a natural end. I'm intrigued to see Andrew McCarthy in one of the new series, haven't seen him for a long time! Just crossing fingers that Person of Interest won't get cancelled - we're way behind here and have only just had series 3 so we've got a bit of catching up to do, but there were some great episodes in series 3 (4C was my favourite).
  23. Yes I thought Beautiful Day was an odd choice for a Paso, and it wasn't a very good dance either, although she was much better in the dance off. I thought Carol's Paso was much better (and more traditional). I think Jamelia is good but she is a bit heavy, but she's a great dancer and I think she just needs a bit more control. It's great to see Anton finally doing well!
  24. I don't do zombies at all, my favourite supernaturals are probably vampires - I've read all the Twilights although I think they definitely went off after the first 2 books. I also enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse series (apart from the fae), and have Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series to read, and I'm working my way through the Mortal Instruments series. I used to love the Vampire Chronicles but I think "Prince Lestat" may have finished them for me. I read an occasional ghost story but don't really like them too scary! I enjoyed Sarah Waters' "The Little Stranger". I try not to read too much of this genre as I think it can be very derivative, also I often find that ghost stories tend to have disappointing endings, which is another reason I don't read that many of them.
  25. Hello eyesee. Oh too many writers to mention - I read my first Nesbo earlier this year and quite enjoyed it, although it was a bit gruesome! I like Ann Cleeves's crime series set on the isle of Shetland, Elly Griffiths's series set in Norfolk - neither of these are very gory, and the Griffiths books have a nice sense of dry, slightly cynical, humour. I also like historical crime, and cosy crime such as Agatha Raisin (for a bit of silliness), the US writers Janet Evanovich and Charlaine Harris (reading one of hers now). I have the Stieg Larsson books to read but haven't got round to them yet! Have you read those?
