    I watched some of the TV series a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed them, they've also been done on radio.

    I've heard that the Anita Blake series is quite er raunchy, I think the author is Laurel Hamilton, but they're supernaturally-themed. I've read several of the Stephanie Plum books and I don't think they're erotic, they're a fun read but more of a comedy crime; any love/sex scenes are very mild.

    I remember reading it when we had a bit of snow here, and I could really feel the cold coming through!

    Michelle Paver has a new book out soon, which sounds similar to Dark Matter. Glad you enjoyed it, bobbly, it's fabulously atmospheric isn't it? I loved it.

    Yes have a good weekend everyone. It's lovely and sunny here at the moment, and I've just planted some more spring bulbs, and picked a few more tomatoes which are nearly ripe.

    I agree with both of you, I was put off this book by the comparisons with Gone Girl (which I hated) - never say never though!

    100 is a great achievement - I don't think I've hit 40 yet! Aiming for 45 at the moment.

    The Mistletoe Bride and other stories by Kate Mosse is quite good, not that scary though!

    Supermarkets only tend to have a very limited selection anyway, usually the current big sellers, but very little back catalogue or books which aren't quite in the mass market ie guaranteed to sell, range.

    Thanks for that I'll have a look, I don't do internet TV but I'll see if it's repeated, if not I'm sure it will be at some point!

    I try to buy from shops or supermarkets as much as possible, but if the shops don't have a book I want, I'll either order it online and pick it up instore, or get it off the net if it's much cheaper.

    Yes it's a vicious circle isn't it really. Then again rents are so high now that it's probably cheaper to operate online and presumably have somewhere to keep stock, rather than have a shop with all the bills to pay etc (and staff, who will sadly lose their jobs).

    I was going to suggest C J Sansom as well, as he mentions the City quite a lot. Edited to say that Wikipedia shows some maps of the City of London, a bit small but might be helpful if you want to get a better idea of how much the City coveres.

    No I hadn't heard of it either but I saw it in a bookshop and liked the sound of it.

    The City is more around the St Paul's/Bank/Liverpool Street area, Kensington is much further west so not part of the "City" as such. I'm not sure if the boundaries are the old City walls (bits of which are still standing at various places) but generally it's more the financial and banking area which is called the City now.

    Just ordered "Murder in Advent" by David Williams, saw it in a bookshop but much cheaper on Book Depository so I've ordered it.
