  1. Yes I agree, school can put you right off books! I did Austen for A Level and didn't pick up a proper book for about 6 years, apart from tacky holiday reads like Danielle Steel etc, I read mostly magazines for ages. I keep meaning to have a go at re-reading Austen though.
  2. Good luck with the move Laura! Ooh yuk dissection, I remember doing that in school biology, don't think we did frogs and crawfish though. We did various organs, a fish and then the teacher did a rat which we all watched (with horrified fascination I suppose you'd call it ), wouldn't want to do it again.
  3. First among Sequels - Jasper Fforde
  4. It's freezing in our office today, the heating must have broken down (again!). I've borrowed a thick cardigan belonging to a colleague who's on leave today, and have it round my shoulders which has helped a bit!
  5. Thick fog again this morning, cleared now and quite sunny.
  6. Dark Matter by Michelle Paver
  7. Yes some of the music was a bit odd, I loved some of the costumes and make-up, Daisy's was probably the best and Danny's was good too. It was time for Anastasia to go but Daisy shouldn't have been in the dance off. I agreed with Craig about Ore's Charleston - there was hardly any Charleston in it! It started well but then just seemed to be pretty much the same few steps, a shame as he's a great dancer but the choreography let him down this time. Goodness knows how he could see through all that hair though!
  8. Wow you're organised Autumn! I've only bought one pressie so far. Yes the extra hour was lovely, I didn't know you put the clocks back in Holland too. Very foggy here this morning but cleared now.
  9. Oh yes Eric for me too, I think it went seriously downhill after series 4, overall I think I prefer the books and wish the show had stuck more closely to them.
  10. Just finished number 40.
  11. Exactly the same here Augury!
  12. I have the Fever series but haven't got round to reading them yet. I felt a bit bereft when I finished the True Blood series, and also The shadow of the wind. I didn't want The American Boy by Andrew Taylor to end either, as it was so well-written and engrossing. And I'm always a bit sad when I finish a Poldark book too, they're like old friends now!
  13. Did anyone see the last episode of The Fall? I thought it was a bit disappointing.
  14. Hi Vanessa and welcome, judging by your avatar you're a fellow True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse fan!
  15. I've just finished "Time's Legacy" by Barbara Erskine - overall I enjoyed it, but her characters were, as usual, pretty two-dimensional and the heroine was pretty silly at times, although it was acknowledged in the book. Great atmosphere and spookiness though, with a lovely setting in Glastonbury. 8/10
  16. I've just bought the latest in Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series, "The Nature of the Beast".
  17. Either commuting on the train (can't read on buses or in the car), or for about 1/2 an hour or so in bed before turning in. Or on a beach/by the pool on holiday (which doesn't happen very often of course!).
  18. Hi and welcome.
  19. Yes her crown was definitely the best one, the other two were both wonky!
  20. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
  21. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
