    hello

Hello, and welcome to the forums
  3. There is something about Coelho's writing, that most times seems quite good at the beginning, but before long I always want to throw the book out of the window, they are so irritating . And The Alchemist was the best of his books that I have finished, (but that is a Curate's Egg thing.... . ) Bought the first ebook of the year today - Strange Weather in Tokyo by Hiromi Kawakami from Kindle deals, and I vaguely remember reading the book sample before, so I'll have a go at this one.
  4. Wow frankie, you are the queen of book challenges Happy reading for 2015!!
  5. Like... WOW!! Happy reading in 2015 Little Pixie I'm verklempt too , and I have a new word now
  6. Hope you have lots of happy reading in 2015 Kylie!
  7. Still reading The Shell Collector - 71% so far . Bought the e-book of Chris Riddell's Goth Girl and the Fete(sic)Worse Then Death and the illustrations are soooo beautiful, and the plot hilarious too
  8. Happy reading in 2015 , and Ditto - you are so organised
  9. I hope you have lovely reading year Anna !
  10. It was on Amazon Kindle daily deals in November, and the reviews were very intriguing. ‘The Rabbit Back Literature Society] Mixes the small-town surrealism of Twin Peaks with the clandestine-society theme of Donna Tartt's The Secret History’ The List ‘Unnerving, enigmatic... Hints of Let the Right One In and Haruki Murakami's elliptical early science fiction novels flavour a creepy tale about mutating books, buried secrets and ghostly encounters’ - James Lovegrove, Financial Times ‘Wonderfully knotty... a very grown-up fantasy masquerading as quirky fable. Unexpected, thrilling and absurd’ Sunday Telegraph ‘Charming, chilling and gripping from its very first page’ Bizarre And at 99 pence cost, I was easily tempted !
  11. You are on a roll of good books at the moment Glad to see you enjoyed TOatE , that one is on my 'hopefully to be read soon' list Had a browse at this book at Amazon, and it's very intriguing... sadly my local library doesn't have a copy of that one, but Weisman's Countdown (sort of similar content) is, so that's one to read soon.
  12. I have never read any of Jonas Jonasson's book so far, but The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared is also on my priority TBR list now .
  13. I am in my free 30 day trial for the UK Kindle Unlimited at the moment. So it's early days for me, but I thought I would try it for the next six months or so, just to see if it would be worth it. Some books I have read/am reading at the moment are Hugh Howey's novels, which I was thinking of buying recently, but now it is quite useful to read them through the Kindle Unlimited scheme. I certainly think that it is good for trying books out (making it as more of a longer version of a free sample), also I think that it could be quite good for someone who is a fast reader, who use a lot of books per month. But the actual amount of books by authors can be very limiting, but then I have found that most of Kurt Vonnegut's novels are on Unlimited, so it would be a good thing for me to start reading his novels. I will just have to see over the next six months, and whether it is worth the monthly cost works for me.
  14. Good to see that you loved The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen , it's on my TBR list too. Sorry you didn't get on so well with the The Library of Unrequited Love.
  15. I hope you like Matt Haig's The Humans - the best book I've read this year .
  16. Nice book haul! The Shock of the Fall is excellent! I was tempted by the Daily Deals yesterday and bought Veronica Roth's Divergent and Jonas Jonasson's The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden. I've read 13% so far of The Shell Collector (excellent ) and now enjoying Margaret Atwood's Lady Oracle too.
  17. Hello Sparkalisha, and welcome to BCF
  18. The sun is clear here today , but 8 degrees Celsius ....That -21 degrees is well chilly!!
  19. ....I also have Christopher Priest's Inverted World still on my TBR list too...
  20. Glad that you enjoyed The Martian . I'd forgot that I had it on my e-reader.....I think i bought it after pontalba's review some time this year .
  21. Finished (thankfully, at last ) Barbara Trapido's The Travelling Hornplayer. I should try to carry on with Margaret Atwood's Lady Oracle....but I am not in the mood for it really.... more likely to start on Hugh Howey's The Shell Collector .
  22. Hugh Howley's Glitch was the first of his books I read recently, and I really enjoyed that one (especially at the ending.) I bought Glitch after reading Anna Begins's reviews of some of his short stories, so now I have The Shell Collector to read soon .
