Charm
Daniel Vartanian Trilogy ~by~ Karen Rose Die For MeWhen a multimedia games designer decides to take his research to the next level for his new game, The Inquisitor, fantasy ends and murder begins. Vito Ciccotelli, homicide detective in Philadelphia PD, is expecting the worst. Called to a remote murder site in a wooded area on private property, he is confronted with numerous bodies, all with horrific injuries, all it seems the victim of the same killer. When the medical examiner reveals that the wounds are consistent with instruments of medieval torture, Ciccotelli turns to Sophie Johannsen, museum curator and specialist in medieval warfare, to learn more about the killer's methods and to try and find the killer before he spirals out of control...With a rising body count and a ruthless killer at large, this is classic Karen Rose. Scream For MeThe terrifying sequel to Karen Rose's brilliant DIE FOR ME. Daniel Vartanian is trying to come to terms with a chilling discovery. Photographs taken, and kept hidden, by his brother years ago, show a group of unidentifiable teenage boys raping young girls for fun. With his brother now dead, Vartanian is determined to find the girls and bring the rapists to justice. Alex Fallon is unable to forget her past. Her family fell apart when her sister was murdered and now with her step-sister Bailey's disappearance, history seems to be repeating itself. When Vartanian meets Alex, it's as if a ghost has walked into the room. The double of one of the girls in the photographs, it is only when he learns that she had a twin sister that it begins to make horrifying sense. With Bailey's life in the balance and events escalating out of all control, Daniel and Alex will have to confront their pasts head-on if they are find the missing woman before it's too late. Kill For MeThe terrifying sequel to DIE FOR ME and SCREAM FOR ME, KILL FOR ME is Karen Rose's most frightening thriller to date. For years District Attorney Susannah Vartanian has refused to allow anyone close to her. Her life changed overnight when as a teenager she was brutally raped by a vicious gang of youths. Detective Luke Papadopoulus is fast approaching burn-out. As a detective working on sex-crimes against children, he will do anything to find those responsible for such evil atrocities. Monica Cassidy is terrified. Kidnapped and held in a bunker with eleven other girls, all victims of a paedophile ring started by Susannah's rapists, she barely escaped with her life when her kidnappers panicked and fled, killing five of the girls as they left. Now Monica is the only one who can identify the ring's members and they know where she is. Will Luke and Susannah be able to keep Monica safe and crack the ring before the remaining girls disappear forever? I am so disappointed to have finished these books as now I don't have another Karen Rose book in my possession to carry on with! I adore this series and Ms Rose has very quickly become one of my very favourite authors with not one of her books being a disappointment to me. I love her writing style, the plots and storylines kept me hooked throughout and the characters were very likable as well as interesting. Fantastic stuff! 10/
pickle
Oh I'm so sorry frankie, I missed this post as we posted at almost the same time! I haven't read the LOTU series but I believe they are on my Amazon wishlist! So yes, I will probably be reading them at some stage. Bear in mind though if you do fancy the Atlantis series, they are not young adult. They are most definitely adult which is all rather enjoyable! I would imagine the LOTU series is the same. I have read these Gena Showalters well some of them anyway and definitely as you say not for the YA market, in fact you know I was perusing my new shelves and found I actually own a couple of them which I didn't realise. Things like that never happen to me I would so love to find books I didn't realise I had!
Charm
The Morganville Vampires ~by~ Rachel Caine Kiss Of Death (Book 8)Claire Danvers has a few things on her mind. First of all there is the laundry, which is now an unfortunate shade of pink. Then there is her boyfriend, Shane, who is never too far from her thoughts. Finally there is her best friend Eve's relationship problems. As if life as a student wasn't complicated enough, Claire just happens to be studying in Morganville. A town run by vampires. Trouble seems to follow Claire and her friends like a shadow and tonight is no exception to the rule. They must find the most difficult documents for a vampire to acquire; people passes that will allow 'bad ass' Morley and his friends to leave Morganville. But it's proving incredibly difficult, and with the odds seemingly stacked against them, the biggest question of all is...Will they survive? Ghost Town (Book 9)When Claire is ordered to repair the systems that protect Morganville, it's not just cutting into her study time, it's a life-threatening problem. If there's one thing this vampire-infested town is serious about, it's security. But achieving the impossible only brings a whole new set of problems, and the upgrades have unexpected consequences: people inside the town are slowly beginning to forget who they are, even the vampires. Soon, the town's little memory problem has turned into a full-on epidemic. Now Claire needs to figure out a way to pull the plug on her experiment - before she forgets how to save Morganville... This series just keeps getting better and better. It has it all, action, danger, thrills and romance. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading how the characters and storylines have progressed and cannot wait to get my hands on the next one! If you're a fan of supernatural young adult tales, then you need to read these. 9/
Charm
Last Known Victim ~by~ Erica Spindler Synopsis courtesy of Waterstone's;For police captain Patti O'Shea, the discovery of a dead body is shocking, but part of the job. A dead body with the right hand severed is disturbing. But when a corpse is discovered with the police badge of her murdered husband, she is pushed over the edge. Driven by revenge, and working outside the law, Patti vows to track the monster responsible. But as the killings continue, it becomes clear that she is not the hunter - but the hunted. This is a great little thriller set in New Orleans, a couple of years after hurricane Katrina hit. It moves along at a smooth pace with interesting characters and a storyline told from the viewpoint of a few different characters, with a couple of appearances from people from her previous books. A total surprise of who the bad guy was for me, which really threw me at the end, but all in all, not a bad read at all. 7/

Charm
Finally, I finished The Witches Of Eastwick (thoughts to follow). It seems as if I haven't been in here in ages to update, cause it has taken me so long to read one book. I've also added two more to my TBR pile, although I only bought one of them! For Mother's Day my son bought me The Girl In The Mirror & The Memory Maker, two short stories in a lovely hardback book by Cecelia Ahern, along with chocolates (which I had scoffed by the end of the day! ) and flowers. Also while we were passing one of the bookshops in town, I spied The City Of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare in the window and promptly sent my OH in to get it for me, I didn't even realise it was released! It is now however, waiting patiently on my shelf to be read Edited April 6, 2011 by Charm
Charm
The Witches Of Eastwick ~by~ John Updike Synopsis courtesy of Waterstone's:The air of Eastwick breeds witches - women whose powerful longings can stir up thunderstorms and fracture domestic peace. Jane, Alexandra and Sukie, divorced and dangerous, have formed a coven. Into the void of Eastwick breezes Darryl Van Horne, a charismatic magus of a man who entrances the trio, luring them to his mansions... Having seen the film version of this, I was really looking forward to the book as, more often than not, the books are usually better than their films. I was wrong in this instance. The synopsis is one of the most exciting things about the book. I think it had a lot to do with the writing, the author spent way too much time on descriptive narratives, which often stretched a paragraph on for a full page. Then when something reasonably exciting did occur, it was written so matter of factly within a long laborious paragraph, that I almost missed it and had to read it twice to make sure I'd got it right .... something did actually happen! The story dragged, the characters were limp and unimaginative and the ending was anticlimactic. If you've seen the film, don't let the book spoil it for you. 4/

Yes I figured you missed it because I noticed myself that we posted rather simultaneously But I forgot to pull at your sleeve and say 'Oi! Notice my other post, will you!'. I did get the impression at the supermarket that the books might be a bit on the raunchy side so yes I've taken that into consideration I might give Showalter a go if I see her books at a secondhand bookshop or at the library. I think my TBR is way too long for me to go and buy them Thanks for the info, luv! Me too, I wouldn't mind if it was a bargain, but I paid full price for it too However ... I'm reading A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, which is proving to be a great read so far, definitely making up for the Eastwick failure

I thought you'd already read this, in fact I think I got the idea to read the book from you somehow Did I see it on your Library Thing on FB? How are you finding it now? Isn't Matthew dreamy? I'm loving it I have to say, and the settings and history element are fascinating to me, even if a lot of the magical history is fiction, very entertaining Oops, what a weird accident! But what's a woman to do, these things happen At least it was a cheap accident! I suppose you could also describe it as a fortunate accident? Fortunate for my TBR pile anyway
