I'm still reading TCPATW - had library books I couldn't renew so had to read them, but will get to Wicked ASAP!

Posted

I haven't even started reading TCPatW yet ;) Lately I haven't had much time to read and when I do have time, it's mostly in bed before going to sleep, and unfortunately TCPatW is far too sturdy a book for that. I'm going to go and visit BF tomorrow though and I'm packing that book and hoping I'll have more time to read then.

Currently I'm reading another Rory book, High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. Not having liked Hornby's Fever Pitch, and having disliked High Fidelity the movie, I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying this novel! I would've never picked up this book if it hadn't been for the Rory list so yet again I'm very glad for GG :irked:

I think I'm up for Wicked as well, after I've started and finished TCPatW

Glad to hear you're enjoying High Fidelity. I have that one on my TBR pile. I picked up The Polysyllabic Spree by the same author tonight and I'm very tempted to start it. I think it's also on the Rory list.

I know you have it on your TBR, that's why I kind of borrowed the book from the library :irked: You remember, we were discussing reading Chocolat and High Fidelity in the near future? When I finished my last read and needed a light read for bed I just picked it up and so far I've been really happy with that choice ;)

Yep I think The Polysyllabic Spree is on the Rory list, I have no idea what that one is about though.

;) You have a much better memory than me. So many books!

The Polysyllabic Spree looks very interesting. It says on the cover: 'A hilarious and true account of one man's struggle with the monthly tide of books he's bought and the books he's been meaning to read'. I think it will appeal to you too. :irked: It's a collection of essays that he wrote over a period of 14 months for a magazine.

I enjoyed The Complete Polysyllabic Spree but I wouldn't say it's hilarious. I love reading about other peoples reading habits (duh, that's why I'm here :irked:) so this was an interesting read. Hope you like it too, Kylie ;)

Thanks Chesil. I had a flick through it and it looks OK. I'm a little worried though that I'll end up adding a lot more books to my wish list on his recommendation.

 I'm sure if I'd read the blurb before I would've read the book already!! It sounds interesting, I love reading about people reading. (Hence my fascination with this forum as well :)) I do fear though, just like you, that I might be adding to my wishlist..... ;)

Ps. And don't worry about not remembering the High Fidelity discussion! I have (sometimes) a good memory when it comes to interesting stuff and books, but make me read uni stuff and I forget.... ;)

I'm not finding myself enjoying TCPatW as much as everyone else. It has taken me ages to get to page 100 so think I'll put it aside for a little while. Maybe a break will help :D

Sometimes it really does help if you aren't enjoying a book to put it aside and come back to it at a later time (or not at all if its one you just do not have the desire to know how it ends.) Its too bad you were struggling with that one, Kate. Do you have anything in mind you would like to read next?

I'm reading Q & A for the reading circle and then I'm moving on to Wicked!

Yay! Wicked is great so far, I think you'll enjoy it :D

I'm anxious to learn a little more about Q & A. I've seen the thread but haven't been to stalk it yet. Might have to do that sometime today.

I know some people are still coping from reading the last group choice Wicked and some may not have even finished it yet, and I shouldn't even start thinking about another group read since I've just finished two rather disappointing and slow group reads, but I can't help myself. Please try and stop me? Or then join me? Have you had any thoughts about what the next read could be?

My personal choices include Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath (although I'm quite sure most of you have already read it), Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, The Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby. I'm up for other novels as well of course. All in all, I'd like a shorter, quicker read :smile2:

I didn't like Wicked or TCPatW :smile2: started The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn but happy to join in a group read :irked:

Shorter and quicker would suit me too, and I would be happy with any of the three you mention frankie :smile2:

I keep telling myself that I won't participate in the next group read because I have other books to read first, but you keep putting up such great suggestions that I can't help myself! :smile2:

I've read The Bell Jar but can join in with the discussion, and I have the other two on my TBR pile so any will be fine with me I guess.

Well I've read Rebecca and Kylie has read Bell Jar, so why don't we go for the Nick Hornby novel?

Nick Hornby sounds good to me, and it just so happens that the library informed me that the book has arrived at the library today :D
