  1. I'm reading this at the moment. I just started it though. Already loving it as much as the first two.
  2. You've got our weather Chesil. It's usually cold enough to have the heater on every day in May, instead we're still wearing shorts and t-shirts.
  3. We have three week issues, too. You can renew twice if they're not on reserve. The academic libraries I've used while studying had three weeks, too. One would recall books if they were requested. So you could get them with a three week issue and if someone requested it in that time the due date would be changed and it would be due back in two days instead. That was really annoying. We also have a similar system to you, Sari. They're called bestsellers and you can issue for a week. There's a charge for them too, whereas normal issues are free.
  4. I finished Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain last night. There's a prequel The First Lie, but I'm not sure if I'll read that. Has anyone here read it?
  5. I don't really have a TBR. I don't buy fiction unless its to collect them (as I'm doing with the Rebus series). I have a list of books I'd like to read, but as I'm restricted to what my local library holds I know there's some on there I won't get to read. I usually have about 10 fiction books out of the library at a time, or I don't get them read before they're due. I read those before anything else usually, so I guess they're the closest I've got to a TBR. I do have a lot of non fiction books that I own, but some of those I won't get round to reading, and others are more reference type ones. I'm slowly making my way through the ones I want to read, but it doesn't bother me if I don't get to them all.
  6. The Balzano and Byrne series by Richard Montanari has a cop with a deaf daughter, Kevin Byrne. The first one in the series is The Rosary Girls. The second one features the daughter a lot more and is called The Skin Gods. They're set in Philadelphia. Great books, too.
  7. Retailers are bringing the Black Friday thing to NZ too. And I agree with you Chesil. It's an American thing, and there's no need for it here. We have the big boxing day sales. They're probably equivalent to Black Friday sales. They're mad, hundreds of people everywhere, and huge discounts. I know last year one store was selling Ipads for $30 (normally over $400 here)!!
  8. Are there any sites for movies where you can put in a movie you like and it will give you recommendations? My son loves the Fast and Furious movies and is trying to find any other car movies like that. The only thing he found when he googled recommended 'Rush' and 'Senna'.
  9. I use sugarmonkey on most forums I'm on. Monkey is the nickname I've called my son since he was a few hours old, and I added sugar to it when he was diagnosed with diabetes and I joined my first online forum. Sugarmonkey was taken on here, so I changed it to bookmonkey.
  10. I've always liked discombobulate (to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate:). I think it sounds like what it means.
  11. Patrick Modiano's books look really interesting but unfortunately our library only has one, and it's in French in the section they call 'community languages.' I'll be watching to see if they get any in English.
  12. I always try and start my assignments right away, but I do find I work better under pressure, when they're just about due.
  13. Both my parents and my grandmother read, but nowhere near as much as me. I'm definitely the most into books in my family. None of my sisters read much, if at all. My daughter reads a little, but not much. My son doesn't read at all and will do anything he can to avoid doing so. When he was younger he used to read a lot, but lost the bug somewhere along the way.
  14. Finished Hanging Hill by Mo Hayder. Good book, except the end. Worst ending I've ever read. It really seemed as if the writer had reached her word limit and just stopped.
  15. I tried to read Cuckoo's Calling earlier this year Anna and didn't get on with it. I've never read any Harry Potter though, so no experience of JK Rowling at all.
  16. That's exciting Kelli. Good luck. And well done on the marks Anna.
  17. Finished Fortune Cookie by Bryce Courtenay last night.
  18. It's 12.31pm here in NZ. Just finished lunch and thinking through the list of jobs I have to do this afternoon.
  19. One of our national chains has Christmas decorations on sale Raven.
  20. Finished the second book in the Stieg Larsson Millennium trilogy: The Girl who Played With Fire. Love this series.
  21. That quake sounds terrifying Anna. We get a lot here, and have recently had some really big ones. I'm terrified of them. I'm glad you're all right. Congratulations on the wedding June and Coran. I wish you a long life together.
  22. You have had a bad run lately Lily. I hope things get better for you.
  23. Leisure reading is mostly in bed, lying on my side.
  24. What did you think of Heading out to Wonderful Kay? I read it last year, and liked it.
  25. Finished "Love you more" by Lisa Gardner. 4/5 lots of plot twists.
