I'm another who didn't like Gone Girl. I only finished because I thought there had to be a great twist somewhere. No book could be that predictable. Harry Potter, started the first one with my son. we both quickly agreed we didn't like it. Dan Brown anything. The first I finished. The second was just the first rewritten it seemed. Gave up on it about halfway through.

I had something like this a couple of weeks ago, but I was on the other side. I was working away at my desk and one of our clinicians was doing some paperwork on the other side of my desk. They often do this, so that's no problem. But he kept looking up towards me, and I thought he was looking at me. It wasn't till I got up to do something after about half an hour that I found out why he'd been looking in my direction so much. He'd been looking at a calendar on the wall behind me. I've only been in this job a few months and didn't know there was a calendar there. I've never worked in a job with cubicles, so I don't know what that's like, but I think I'd be uncomfortable too.

I have that happen sometimes, but for me it only happens on a local news site stuff.co.nz. Like you, if I open it again in a new window it fixes, but it is really annoying. Sorry I don't know what it is though. Edit: I'm on a laptop not tablet.

I'll watch for your review of The Hypnotist. I've been reading a lot of Scandinavian mystery/detective books lately.

I thought it was probably me remembering wrongly. I'm probably mixing them up with something else. The books are really good, and I enjoyed the series. I'm going to check if my library has the whole series or not, as they're good at not having complete series.

Has anyone read Poldark before the TV series. I read it years ago (I'm talking late 1980s). I only stopped reading the series because my library didn't have them anymore. Since the TV series they've now got the books back, with TV series covers. I decided to read them again, but I'm wondering if the books they've got are based on the series and aren't the originals. I'm sure when I started reading them the first time the first book started with Demelza walking the Cornwall cliffs and meeting up with Ross. It was a long time ago, so maybe I'm remembering wrong. Does anyone know?

Unnecessary romance, especially in crime novels. It seems to be really common in US crime that the main character falls for the woman very quickly. It's the main reason I stopped reading the Dan Brown books after the second one; Robert Langdon didn't seem to be able to do anything without falling for a woman within the first few pages.

His books were my introduction to crime writing. I've read all the Inspector Morse books, and love the TV series too. RIP

I don't really notice it in books but there is one thing that bugs me about US spellings. When I was at school it was drummed into us that NZ spelling is organisation etc. If we put 'Z' we usually had to write the word a hundred times at lunch of something like that. We were always told that was the US way of spelling it, and that in NZ we use 's'. Nowadays it seems either is acceptable, but usually the 'z' spelling is more used.

I'd love to be a librarian in an old fashioned library like they were when I was a kid. Before everything was computers.

I don't notice the gender of the authors I read 3. Shop at a book shop or online? Definitely bookshop. 4. All books become movies or tv shows? I don't watch movies much, so probably TV shows. 5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week? I read more than 5 pages per day usually, but I couldn't read 5 books per week, so I think I'll go with the first one. 6. Be a professional reviewer or author? Author, I've always wanted to write and I'm terrible at writing book reviews. 7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before? New ones. I rarely reread. 8. Be a librarian or book seller? Considering librarian is what I've wanted to do since I was 4, this is a no-brainer. 9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite? Favourite genre. I couldn't go without reading crime books. And some other genres I don't like at all. 10. Only read physical books or eBooks? Physical. I don't like ebooks.

This book is incredible. I read it a few years and it has still stuck with me. I highly recommend it.

I love looking at old photos of my town. As far as actually reading about it, my town isn't all that old. I think it's the 150th anniversary this year or next, so there isn't a lot. I am a history buff, and I'm really interested in my countries history. We never learned about it in school history classes, we did mostly America and a little UK.

I get paid every two weeks, so have to shop then. I get bread and milk in between times though.

One I've just read not only went back and forwards in time, and had multiple viewpoints, it also switched point of view with some of the characters. It was so confusing.

Books written from multiple viewpoints, and that switch between time periods. Like Jodi Picoult's (I like hers, she does them well, just an example). It seems everyone's doing it lately, and not everyone can do it well. Most of the time it's just very confusing.

I finished Gone With the Wind today. I saw the movie years ago, and always intended to read it, but never got round to it. Now I want to see the movie again.

The grocery list is just the list of things I regularly buy with groceries. Each fortnight when I go shopping I go through it to see what I need, and hopefully I don't forget anything. I have a list of meals we eat regularly as I get sick of the same thing all the time, and sometimes forget what other options there are. I don't really meal plan as such. With our work schedules (or my lack of one) that doesn't really work.

I've got what I'm calling a bullet journal. I've got my master grocery list, budget, a list of the things I want to look for at the second hand shops and a housework list so far. I don't use it as a diary. I need a proper diary to keep track of when the kids and I are working.

My current obsession is quiz shows. I've watched The Chase since it started here, and I tape it if I can't watch it. I recently discovered quiz shows on YouTube so have been watching 15 to 1 and The Weakest Link. NZ doesn't have any of it's own quiz shows, so it's mostly UK ones I watch on YouTube, plus Jeopardy.
