Nice, thanks for all the game tips, Kylie! I'll probably just stick with the free stuff at first, but I'm just looking forward to having a new phone more than anything. Mine is almost 4 years old plus the carrier I'm with has horrid service where I live. Now that I'll be switching carriers and getting a new phone hopefully I won't have to stand out on my terrace to get a signal!

I thought I'd bump this thread since I've ordered an iPhone and will be getting it tomorrow. I'll be back looking for app suggestions .

I've heard a lot about it and have seen ads for it, Kylie, but haven't watched it myself. It sounds intriguing though so I think I might have to look for it on Netflix.

She did have a terrible time, and her mother! God what an awful woman. No wonder Sybil was so disturbed!

Great review, Weave! Have you seen the film with Sally Field? It's really very good, but obviously disturbing in parts. I remember reading the book in high school psychology and I know what you mean about it the hardness of getting through it .

Your Book Activity Today ~ Thread 15

I'm well into part 3 of The Seance, and about halfway through. Love the creep-factor and am enjoying it very much! -
Seriously, Chesil?? You know I don't think I've ever met anyone that was good at one and not the other! Totally shoots my theory out of the water . Well I'm glad you you were good at one of them - I was dismal!

I had both piano and clarinet lessons when I was young, but was not very good and just could not grasp the reading of music. I'm of the belief that it's also the reason I'm horrid at math, another right-brain function. I do know how to play most every brass and woodwind instrument enough to know that they work, however (playing the scale), and that just comes from all those years of me growing up in my parent's business .

Oooooh, I like this, Chrissy! So am I correct in that you want us to make one post, and list all 30 films/characters instead of one a day? I'm a little space-y today so I just want to clarify!

Yep, I have a 'TBR Shelf' as well . Welcome to BCF, Kerstin! Glad you joined us!

Your Book Activity Today ~ Thread 15
Peacefield replied to Janet's topic in General Book Discussions
I heard they are thinking of creating a book hoarding show, Kylie. You could be famous! Better get ready if the producers come knocking at your door I read quite a bit of The Seance last night and a few pages this morning when I was up in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep. -
Your Book Activity Today ~ Thread 15
Peacefield replied to Janet's topic in General Book Discussions
It's been a bit of a crazy week so far so I haven't gotten a ton of reading in, but I've managed to get up to about page 60 of The Seance. Things have just taken a bit of a turn so I'm excited to see what happens! -
I second that notion! Coffee here as well. Mmmmm.

Favorite book of the year so far?
Peacefield replied to bethany725's topic in General Book Discussions
Hey Bethany! I would have to say A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness would be my fave so far this year. Also, if I'm allowed a non-fiction book, I would say I loved Giants in the Earth by OA Rolvaag. How about you? What's the bestest book you've read in these first 6 months? -
True Grit!

Chat was great . We should definitely do it on a regular basis! -
Glad you liked it, Ben! It was definitely one of my two favorite films from last year .
-
I think Jennifer Lawrence looks great as Katniss! I was also surprised at Lenny Kravitz - he's not who I pictured as Cinna, but we shall see. Casting Woody Harrelson as Haymitch seems perfect to me, and I can't wait to see Stanley Tucci! I'm not sure about Elizabeth Banks either, but I don't know enough about her I guess. I love Wes Bentley, but I don't remember a 'Seneca' being in the first book ?
-
Oooh thanks for the link! And I'm glad to hear Frankie endorses Haig too . I'm definitely going shopping for his books on Friday.
-
One for Team Peeta! I'll have to keep track . You're right about this book raising a lot of questions. I'm looking forward to the other books, and the film too!
-
Excellent, Weave, thanks!! I can't wait to get my hands on this book then, and possibly other Matt Haig books .

Synopsis via Waterstone's: A fight to the death - on live TV. The game show where you kill or die, and where the winner's prize is survival. In District 12, where Katniss Everdeen lives, life is harsh and brutal, ruled from afar by the all-powerful leaders of the Capitol. The climax of each year is the savage Hunger Games - where twelve boys and twelve girls from each District face each other in a murderous showdown. When sixteen-year-old Katniss is chosen to represent her district in the Games, everyone thinks it's a death sentence. Only one person can survive the horrors of the arena. But plucky Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature... I kept wondering to myself as I was reading this, how in the world am I just discovering this trilogy now?! I've heard everyone here talk about it, but it never registered for some reason. I've been bitten by the bug now though . I loved the strong, independent Katniss, and was fascinated by her life in 'the Seam' and what she has to do to survive day by day. While the concept was very cruel, Collins wrote it in a way where it wasn't difficult or too harsh to read. I did keep thinking the whole time, why is everything in the future always described as being so horrible? As far as futuristic books are concerned. I also found myself hoping that at some point the people of all these districts take over and defeat the idiot Capitol people who have been basically keeping everyone in a cage for who knows how long. I know that the 'Team' talk can get annoying, but for those of you who've read it - Gale or Peeta? I honestly can't make up my mind. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book, and how Katniss and Peeta deal with being the Victors. Highly recommended read, you guys!
