  1. Go for Frankenstein it's a great book.
  2. As a kid I read Enid Blighton's The Secret Seven, The Mystery Series, and The Adventure Series, I never really touched the Famous Five, also there was The Adventure Series by Willard Price. However the first crime stories I guess I read were the Saint books by Leslie Charteris.
  3. "100 idiots make idiotic plans, and carry them out. All but one justly fail. The hundredth idiot whose plans succeeded through pure luck, is immediately convinced he's a genius." —Iain Banks, Matter Welcome to the forum, remember post and they shall reply Damn Pixie beat me to it
  4. Other than browsing round a book store and picking one, a favourite way to spend time, I have a few piled up by the sofa and sometimes just have a lucky dip.
  5. I read there are plans to make a film version of the old series Quantum Leap, how this will translate to the big screen and who will play Sam and Al remains to be seen.
  6. I also enjoyed the ending it also brought a lump to my throat.
  7. I really enjoyed this book, full of atmosphere and character. It is a pity here in the west our view of Vlad is coloured by the legacy of enemy propaganda, this is a man who is still a hero in his homeland, and this novel helps explain why.
  8. I don't know if this has been done here before but it was on twitter a while back and I thought it might go down well here. Lesser Book, titles that didn't quite make it. C S Lewis The cub, the Goth and the bedside table John Steinbeck The raisins of Mild Annoyance and so on
  9. The Kitten of the Baskervilles?
  10. Cranberry and Brie is good as is chicken and bacon mayo.
  11. Saw this on another forum and thought you might enjoy it here The idea is simple - a made up film/book title is posted, and someone replies with an amusing synopsis. They than post a new film/book title. For example, Person A posts the title Cry Havoc, and Person B might reply with: A heart warming tail of Sergeant Fang and his young trainees of Easy company of the K9 corp, following on from their time in boot camp the young pups follow their ruff but fair leader across war torn France as he takes the lead and guides them through the horrors of war. Who is the German spy in their pack? Is it the young Alsation who loves to talk about his life on a sheep farm? Who will win the heart of Fifi the poodle who runs with the resistance? And what is Pvt Tiddles' secret? Ok lets start with this title Slings and Arrows
  12. Terry Goodkind Alan Carr David Walliams Russell Brand Katie Price Louie Spence and many many more
  13. My wife just got the complete box set of all 5 series of Miami Vice so it's time to put on the pastel shirt, white Hugo Boss suit, Ray-Bans, and fire up the 'Daytona' not forgetting to get some kibble for Elvis the alligator.
  14. I know my wife has downloaded a lot of self published ebooks onto her iPad and says they are of mixed quality. This seems like it could be the way of the future for self publishing, just make your work stand out and people will download it.
  15. Thats true although his Who's Who entry is impressive he was not your usual Victorian hero, in fact some people even say he was a coward
  16. I have seen the first half of Titanic and then fell asleep, luckily we were watching a DVD at home. This film is a bit of a sore point in our household because of the terrible and historically inaccurate way the officers of the titanic were portrayed. The 4th officer Joseph Boxall, who survived as he was in command of one of the life boats, is my wife's great uncle, though now sadly deceased, and so James Cameron's shall we say anti english slant did not go down well with family Boxall.
  17. Read all the footnotes in the Flashman books and it is also a great way to learn Victorian history.
  18. If it's Napoleonic books you are after there are a whole er fleet of naval series to choose from Hornblower - C S Forrester 13 books Ramage - Dudley Pope 18 books Bolitho - Alexander Kent 29 books Jack Aubrey - Patrick O'Brian 21 books to name the first four that come to mind.
  19. I have read the four books and have just started watching season 2 and was just wondering if the TV writers had the nerve to show
  20. How about Bleeding Hearts by Ian Rankin as Jack Harvey
  21. Hardly new The Mousetrap has been running at the same theatre since 1952 and Agatha Christie died in 1976
  22. Careful Nollaig an addiction like this can get out of hand, before you know it you will be back in the Hartnell years.
  23. I really enjoyed Dracula, would you say not to bother with the recent sequel?
  24. This has to be one of my favourite bits, ****CAUTION**** Scene contains images of stuffing and fluff.
