  2. I have all the Brett episodes and I think he is the best Holmes so far, the oft cited Rathbone films were good detective films but he was no Holmes and don't get me going about how Nigel Bruce ruined the role of Watson. I think I will watch this new film when it comes out on DVD and then just mentally file it away with all the other portrayals of Holmes over the years. After all it can't be any worse than Pete and Duds version or even Roger Moore as Holmes. Oh and how many of these have you seen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_actors_who_have_played_Sherlock_Holmes
  3. I really hate the advert warning you against buying cheap medicine on line, the man coughing up a dead rat really turns my stomach.
  4. I have a set of Philip Marlowe audio books read by Eliot Gould, that style of writing really lends itself to audio books. Great for long car journeys.
  5. How far have you got with Jordan's WOT Univerze? A lot of people seem to give up after book 6 or so.
  6. I have been a Stargate fan since the film, and have watched all the episodes. I have started to watch Universe but it's just not working for me. I find that I just don't care about the characters most of whom I couldn't even name if you asked me.
  7. I thought the stake used to kill Lucy was less wooden than Reeves unbelieveable playing of Harker. This has been one my favourite books since I first read it many many years ago.
  8. I agree with you chesilbeach, I wanted to like it and there were some enjoyable parts but as ever RTD has written a terrible episode again. As a long time Dr Who fan (my first doctor was Jon Pertwee) I was glad that it was bought back and Tennant has done a wonderful job its just there have been some really terrible episodes and RTD seems to have written most of them.
  9. Love the Flashman books, read the footnotes and you get a grounding in Victorian history as well. Just started book 2 of the Dresden Files
  10. Don't go there it will never seem as good as a childhood memory.
  11. Got Venison steaks tonight, think of it as a slice of Christmas.

    Hello All

Hi all and thanks for the warm welcome
  15. A post on the which DVD thread about US remakes of UK programmes got me thinking. Are there any US remakes of British programmes you really liked/hated, and vice versa? A recent one that I felt wasn't as good was Life on Mars, somehow it just felt not as good, and as for the American ending, sorry that was terrible.

    Hello All

Just found this forum and decided to jump right in. I am an ex civil servant who since being bribed by HMRC to go away is a, for want of a better term, house husband looking after my two daughters while my wife works to keep us all. My interest in books goes back many many years to the Pirate books I learnt to read with at school. Who knew what Roderick the Red, Gregory the Green, and Benjamin the Blue would lead to. I am a fan of thrillers, sci fi, fantasy, horror, in fact if its printed on paper I will read it. So I am looking forward to some interesting threads and any recommendations for books and authors I have missed out on.
