    Hello

Hey Ethan! Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll have fun here! Hope things get better for you
  2. I've just finished The Vampire Lestat and I must say he is now my firm favourite character. He, like Louis, is also a tortured soul and isn't as hard hearted as I expected him to be after reading Interview With The Vampire. There are books dedicated to Armand and Marius in the series so maybe my opinion of them will change after reading these, but at the moment I'm not too keen on either of them. We shall see!
  3. Well if I'm looking for the next book in a series or I'm familiar with the author, I might look at the blurb but generally just jump in and purchase it. If I'm just generally book shopping with no author or book in mind, the cover is normally the first thing I notice. I really like John Connolly's Book of Lost Things red and black cover. It has quite a rough texture and the pattern created by the climbing ivy is really pretty. Then I'll read the blurb and first paragraph to see if it's something I'm interested in and written in a style I'm happy with. Then I'll buy it
  4. :welcome2:Hey!!! Welcome to the forum!! I'm sure you'll have a great time!
  5. I agree! He's so interesting. I think I'd also like to be stuck in a lift with Chuck Palahniuk....I'd like to find out if he's as crazy as his books. (If he is then maybe it's bad to be stuck in a life with him.....
  6. I love Waterstones in Newcastle. The building is fabulous....I can spend hours in there on a Saturday afternoon I can barely pass it without having a wander in to look at the 3 for 2 books. I think Borders is pretty pricey and W H Smiths is a little limited. There are loads of charity shops so it's always worth having a look about before heading to Waterstones and we have a Blackwells too which mainly stocks university textbooks but does have a small range of reasonably priced fiction. HMV sometimes have good offers on books too
  7. Thanks Frankie! :)

It's really not good isn't it. He had lung cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy when he caught a nasty chest infection. With his immune system being really low because of the treatment, it really took a hold and his heart couldn't cope with the added pressure. I'm really gutted but yeah, we're a close family so we'll help each other out. My Sister is staying with my mother tonight so I'm having a break.

Well I'm happy to go with whatever the majority want :) I'll definitely check out the Dexter social group :D

  8. Hey!

That's so cool! I want one! We didn't get a chance to see it unfotunately but I'm sure we can prob get it on dvd soonish.....looking forward to seeing it! :D

I've had a nightmare few days. My stepdad has just died.....we can't believe it! He's only been married to my Mother for 4 weeks.....she's devastated! So I've been over at her house staying with her and she has no internet (she's just learned how to text!!) The funeral is on Monday but it's not really sinking in yet. I told her she should read Mitch Albom (??)'s 5 People You Meet In Heaven....it's a nice story. :)

Did anyone decide on the next book yet?

    Hope you're ok :):)

  9. Well I've just finished The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. I'm not sure what I think to be honest. I was expecting it to be on par with Interview With The Vampire but it wasn't.....however it was a good book overall and maybe it's not fair comparing them. Basically, Lestat awakens from a spell underground (literally) in the 1980s and finds that Louis has told his story in Interview With The Vampire so decides to do the same himself in the hope of encouraging long lost friends/enemies to find him. His story takes the reader to ancient Egypt, Rome, the Paris of Marie Antoinette and the times of the druids and we find out how the Vampire came into being. It's quite an interesting book and I'd imagine that a person who has an interest in ancient history might enjoy it more than your average reader. I loved Lestat, he really grew on me. Overall I found I had to push myself to finish it but I'm glad I did. I would give it 7/10 as I enjoyed it but I'm not entirely sure why
  10. I bought my Maiden's Grave at a charity shop too! 25p! haaa! You can't buy a bar of chocolate for 25p these days

You're right about not oggling at him when he's reading.....I've been trying really hard not to :D

I'm almost finished Lestat and it's getting good! (maybe a bit too late but at least the good stuff has arrived eh!! haa!!)

  11. ooooooooh! Also forgot to mention that my BF finished a book!!!!! He read Thud! by Terry Pratchett and really enjoyed it. I bought him Night Watch by Terry Pratchett hoping to urge him into the habit of reading and he read the first pages then stopped. Fingers crossed he continues with it!

  12. I've got a Deaver book called Maiden's Grave that I might squeeze in before making a decision :)

Let me know what you're thinking of doing and I'll just go with the majority :D

  13. That's a really cool recipe! It beats my one hour version!
  14. :welcome2:Hey Escargot! Welcome to the forum!! Hope you enjoy it!
  15. Well I was thinking about the Dexter books but I'm extremely tempted by the next Lincoln Rhyme installment!......decisions! (They're so good aren't they! :exc:) What about you?

I think if Interview with the Vampire hadn't have been so good I would be enjoying Lestat a lot more. My expectations were really high! I've noticed that there are a lot of sequels to these books and she's written books about the vampire Armand and Marius too. Dare I waste a summer looking for one to rival IWTV?!!!

  16. Haaa! I don't think I have any 10/10s......maybe I'm hard to please!! haaa!
  17. Thanks Mac!! This books brilliant....can't wait to read the next installment which I think is The Empty Chair! You'll have to join the social group 'Jeffrey and the Deaverettes! haa! (The name still tickles me!!) Hope your well Mac!
  18. Hey Frankie!! :D

It's pretty heavy going.....I'm almost done and I must say that I'm having to push myself through it. I've got some time this afternoon so I'm trying to get it finished by then. The only thing that's keeping me going is the hope that Louis finds out about Lestat being back....he may make an appearance. :)

It's definitely not as good as Interview With the Vampire but has had a few good points. I'm finding myself re-reading paragraphs as I'm losing concentration in places. It's not as gripping as IWTV, with lots of flashbacks to ancient Egypt and Rome which is interesting but not really want I like to read about. I was hoping for more story about Lestat being back with mobs of angry vampires (and hopefully Louis) chasing him and that's certainly not what's happening. :(

If it doesn't work out for you I can give you the general overview so you still know the story?

  19. Hey Suzanna!! Welcome to the forum!!
  20. Hey Beth!! Welcome to the forum!!
  21. I think Louis is my favourite vampire character.....poor tortured soul that he is. Although Lestat has the most fun.....it's a tough one Can I have them both?
  22. Me too!! Although I'm considering adopting her plan when I run out of Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme Series!
