  1. This sounds so good Paula! I've just nipped over to Amazon to buy it
  2. Relocation Relocation A girl can dream eh.......
  3. I know.....bless him . He often offers to buy me bits and bobs but I prefer paying for things myself which stems from a nasty piece of work ex-boyfriend who made me feel like cr*p if ever he bought me anything even though I'd never ask him to So now I don't like to have things bought for me ......annoying or what! However, when Ross offers to buy me books I never say no It'd be rude!
  4. I used to buy a lot of magazines, mainly fashion magazines, but I was astounded when I totalled how much I'd spent one month. Now I limit myself to Glamour Magazine which is published once a month and I pick up a free copy of Planning Magazine every other week from uni. I also love the weekend supplements in the Guardian and Observer.
  5. Today my BF bought me a few books The Lovers - John Connolly (I'm sure I've heard people chatting about this so I thought I'd slip it in the basket) Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte (I got the Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde from the BCF Secret Santa and a few lovely people suggested reading Jane Eyre first to get the most out of it ) Silence of the Lambs - Thomas Harris Dracula - Bram Stoker The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde (I remember Noll saying how much she enjoyed this book last year so thought I'd nab it too) I'm still making my way through The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory so won't be making a start on these any time soon.
  6. Me too! Until the end when he reverted back to his usual self
  7. Welcome to the Forum Bev
  8. I was in Asda this morning and found Dracula amongst the
  9. I can read absolutely anywhere. Anywhere the house, on public transport, in the city centre, in a house full of noise, in busy coffee shops full of chatty people, in complete silence.......basically because I grew up in a house like the one Tristan has just described except this house was full of crazy, screaming, hormonal women and no men. If I'm reading it's even easier to zone everything out I don't even hear people calling my name....once I'm gone, I'm gone! My head is my sanctuary
  10. Yeah.....you're totally right Charm! I'm glad I'm not the only one who reads on to see if Eric pops up too It's just no fun when the sun's up!
  11. Is it wrong that I'm tempted by the sound of sparkly sequined jackets?? I'm a 29 year old Gleek! Eeeeeek!
  12. You're an absolute star Lisa-Marie! :D I'm printing this off and pining it to my noticeboard! Thanks! Oh and I'll ask him where he found that article Rachel....I'm sure it was online somewhere
  13. It really good. I've never done yoga but my friend says pilates is more intense, which means yoga must be pretty relaxing as pilates isn't hard work at all. However, the next day I can barely move so it must work. It's all about doing gentle movements while concentrating on your inner core of muscles and breathing technique. My BFs Dad thought pilates was hair removal! He must have thought I was a gorilla to have to have hair removed for an hour every week
  14. I bet you are! Dear me! I'm a terrible swimmer.....maybe half a length before sinking Of course you can! All diet tips will be welcome Apparently (according to my BF) scientists have created a fat free (or calorie free) chocolate bar which tastes exactly the same as ordinary chocolate. Also 5% fat mayo which tastes like full fat mayo. I think I'd prefer that over the chocolate as I'm a bit of a mayonnaise freak Not good! I've been going to the gym about 3 times a week and pilates once a week so I'm feeling good at the minute and like I'm making progress
  15. Me too! I think notes might be my favourite thing of all time. I read Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman not long ago and the notes in that book are hilarious and so witty too. If you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend it
  16. Hope you feel better soon StephenKingman I thought the first four books were great but from Dead to the World until Dead and Gone, I found the books to be much slower paced. When I think back to them the later books merge into one story and I can't distinguish one from the other. Dead and Gone returns to form though I've read the first chapter of The Virgin's Lover and I can already hooked. I've put it down so I can finish off a little bit of uni work or I'll never get it done! Eeeeeeek!
  17. Oooooh me too! I've been thinking I should read this book for sometime as I'm making my way through Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles at the moment so should really take it right back to Stoker's Dracula (or so you'd think ) I actually saw a really handsome copy in Waterstones a few weeks ago but it was pretty expensive. However, I'm now sold on the Penguin Classics edition knowing that there's a whole section at the back of the book dedicated to words that aren't in common use anymore....I love that sort of thing and yup.....I'll be slipping those words into general conversation too Great thread by the way Tristan!
  18. Nicola

    Hey Mac!!

How's you? Thought I'd drop you a line to see how things are going :D

    Hope you're grand :D

  19. I've never heard of Ayn Rand before.....what's her work like? Does it tend to be within a single genre?
  20. I have the house to myself again tonight (Whoooooooop! ) so I can cook pretty much anything I like without having to worry if him indoors would like that too *Him indoors is of out to the pub for tea with his mates.....not that I'm at all jealous thinking of those chips and other hearty food choices on offer*
  21. I haven't read Pygmy yet but I've now finished Snuff and thought it was pretty good. I loved the structure and it made me laugh out loud in quite a few places, as well as squirm. The ending And his attention to detail turns the waiting room (where the entire book is set) into an infectious, damp, claustrophobic and unclean place that you just want to get away from.
  22. I'm slowly making wy way through The Vampire Chronicles so it has crossed my mind to read these some day but I'm in no hurry. Have you read them? Did you enjoy them? What are they like compared to The Vampire Chronicles?
  23. I finished Snuff last night and while I enjoyed it, I didn't think it was as good as some of Palahniuk's previous work. It came with the usual twist, turns and unusual facts......now I know all about American gang tattoos, the accidental deaths of some of hollywood's great movie stars and the world's first blow up sex doll  Lovely stuff! I'm hoping to make a start on The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory today.
  24. Hello Nicola (from another Nicola ) Glad to have you back, although I wasn't here when you last visited. Those were the days when my tbr pile consisted of 3 books.....these days it's likened to Mount Kilimanjaro Hopefully see you around
