  1. Well, since I'm reading the third in The Gardella Vampire Chronicles at the moment, I thought I might post a little something on the first two books before I soon enough give my thoughts on the third book after I finish (most likely tomorrow). The Rest Falls Away, by Colleen Gleason Synopsis: Beneath the glitter of dazzling 19th-century London Society lurks a bloodthirsty evil... . Vampires have always lived among them, quietly attacking unsuspecting debutantes and dandified lords as well as hackney drivers and Bond Street milliners. If not for the vampire slayers of the Gardella family, these immortal creatures would have long taken over the world. In every generation, a Gardella is called to accept the family legacy, and this time, Victoria Gardella Grantworth is chosen, on the eve of her debut, to carry the stake. But as she moves between the crush of ballrooms and dangerous, moonlit streets, Victoria's heart is torn between London's most eligible bachelor, the Marquess of Rockley, and her enigmatic ally, Sebastian Vioget. And when she comes face to face with the most powerful vampire in history, Victoria must ultimately make the choice between duty and love. Review: I was a bit hesitant at first to read this book, though I love the entire historical fiction bit (it was my favorite genre until I started reading supernatural books of any sort), especially since I was not sure how the whole Buffy the Vampire Slayer-meets-Jane Austen bit was going to work (as some who've read the work have referenced to these books). However, I was pleasantly surprised. I found that I quite enjoyed the books, and found the characters and storyline far too intriguing to put aside. Victoria is quite too green in this first book to form a true opinion on her character. However, during the end, as events unfold and she finds herself in dire need to make one of the most important decisions that she will ever have to make, her character starts to grow and mature, and going on to the second book to continue finding out what occurs was impossible to resist. I took a liking to Maximilian Pesaro instantly (not mentioned in the synopsis, but very present throughout the book), and in contrast disliked Sebastian from the beginning. So far he hasn't been able to redeem himself in my eyes, even as I am on the third book, but who knows what might come to pass from here to the end of the series. Overall, I'd give the book a 9/10 rating *~*~*~*~*~* Rises the Night, by Colleen Gleason Synopsis: The glorious nineteenth-century city of Rome gives rise to a new threat from the Immortal Undead... Victoria Gardella has been a vampire slayer for just over a year, balancing her life as a peer of Society with the dangerous role that takes her out on moonlit streets, stake in hand. As Victoria races across Europe to stop what could be the most deadly army the Gardellas have ever faced, she is accompanied by the unlikely Sebastian Vioget, a man as tempting as he is untrustworthy. But when Victoria discovers that she has been betrayed by one of her most trusted allies, the truth will challenge all her powers as a Venator
  2. I adore going to the Disney theme parks, and I'm lucky that it's only a four or so hour drive from where I live . The heat is sometimes unbearable. But one gets used to it after a while. I don't cherish it in the very least though.
  3. Just a salad for me tonight, with some of my favorite and delicious Italian dressing.
  4. Well that's wonderful, BookBee . I'm not exactly crazy about it (especially about the specific city in which I live), but it's home for now, so I'm content.
  5. Well, I was born in Cuba, and I suspect that might influence my accent a bit, though I'm told it doesn't by those that I speak with on a daily basis. However, I live in Florida, U.S., and my boyfriend, who lives in New Mexico currently, tells me that I do have an accent, though not a Hispanic one. I'm not quite sure what type it might be then, but apparently, I have one nonetheless .
  6. So very true. And/or a series, as is my case
  7. I wouldn't mind being stuck with J. R. Ward. Again her, but she's become one of my favorite authors of late.
  8. lol, it made perfect sense. Thank you very much :)

  9. I read the books because of the movies. I saw the first film, then headed for the bookstore and got the books (I really dislike watching a film before reading the book it was based on). Honestly, the books are good, they are worthy classics, but I've never been able to understand the utter craze that some fans develop over them. Nonetheless, it's definitely worth a read .
  10. Not a problem . Thank you for your warm greeting.
  11. Hello to you, carm, and thank you!
  12. Thank you I have been enjoying it! And I am in the same predicament that you are--slightly--though for a different reason. My funds need to be given a bit of a break for now (unless I get lucky and get a bookstore gift card *crosses fingers*). Though that doesn't stop me from reading. I'll borrow books from friends, or download books online, or take out from libraries. I'm not at all picky (but I do prefer to own the books myself).
  13. Hey, Inver! Oh it's impossible, I think, to not get comfy here. I mean, for one who loves books, what not to love about these surroundings? :D

  14. Don't we all! If I keep adding to my TBR pile like I just did today, who knows when I'll finish these books. I'm now digging right back into my current one.
  15. That's wonderful. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it after you've read it
  16. That's wonderful! I'm glad to hear such thoughts on the book. It's about to be added to my TBR . Now I just have to make room for it.
  17. That's a great idea about the thread. I'm going to look into it a little later today after I've done some reading and whatnot :D

And thanks about the pictures! They're all from deviantart.com, which is a huge image source for me.

I was meaning to ask you, how can I add a background image to my profile? I tried with several of the photobucket URLs but none worked.

  18. Wonderful. I have to head on out of here for now but I'll drop by later with a few suggestions
  19. In no particular order... 1. The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde 2. The Odyssey, by Homer 3. One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights), by Various Authors 4. Inferno, by Dante Alighieri 5. Dracula, by Bram Stoker
  20. Hey there, bethany, and thank you. No worries at all, at least we meet now . And thank you kindly for your compliment!
  21. Touch of a Dark Wolf sounds intriguing, Nici, thanks for that review. I'm always looking into supernatural romance type of books, so I might be giving this one a chance sometime in the future.
  22. I've only read Twilight (since I wanted to have read the book before watching the film when it came out), but I'm going to most likely be reading the rest of the series after I finish the one I'm currently on. I really loved Twilight, and a friend of mine (who's a great fan of the books) tells me that the rest of the books are just as wonderful, if not better. casey, are you looking for more vamp books/series to read? If so, I might have a few suggestions
  23. And let me know what you think of them! I haven't had a chance to talk about the books should you decide to read them, as I'm currently the only one out of everyone I know, who's reading the books.

  24. You're most welcome :)
