  1. I have been pondering your post all day, and I really don't know what to suggest If it's self help book suggestions, it would really have to be one that your friend is drawn to herself. There are so many titles out there, it's tricky thinking of suggestions. Perhaps popping onto a site like amazon and actually searching for 'confidence building', or 'how to stop crying' and seeing what comes up - you never know, one or two may be the perfect read. Alternatively, I have often found confidence or been inspired from reading fiction. Great stories can change how we feel about ourselves, our lives and our futures. But again, it is difficult to know what to suggest as what lifts one reader could be a real downer to another. , It's good that she has a friend who is trying to help without judging her. Good luck to you both.
  2. x3 MC Beaton books and 'The Princess Bride' by William Goldman are all part of the Kindle Daily Deal today, at 99p each.
  3. I've always loved theoretical physics!
  4. Yes it is! Well done Chesilbeach. Over to you............................................
  5. I rate my notebooks, on the likelihood of my actually marking them. I have some that I will NEVER use (including one which is handmade paper with a cover made from dried leaves) while others are used for different purposes; notebook general, notebook books, notebook recipes, notebook others etc. I also will only use certain pens with certain notebooks, to 'get the best' from both. My name is Christine, and I'm a notebookholic.
  6. Within the last 50 years.
  7. Now that opens up a debate about 'what is a classic'. It would best be described as written in the gothic style.
  8. Happy Happy Birthday Dimitra. I hope all is well. X

  9. You pretty much had to hand that one over on a Christmassy decorated platter Janet. Here goes......... Within, I could hear both the noise - louder now because the door was open - and the sound of the dog, pattering anxiously about and sniffing and snuffling as she went.
  10. I think that last clue has cracked it, and made the earlier ones slot into place too. I ask this with a hint of shame that I didn't get it sooner, but......... Is it 'The Railway Children' ?
  11. Such emotional stuff , but good that there is 'stuff' out there that is coming together regarding your Grandma.
  12. Another year has passed, and another birthday. Have a lovely day. X

  13. Happy Birthday Brian. Have a lovely day.

    1. Brian.

  15. Same here, and am really looking forward to watching it again. Unexpected in parts and satisfying overall.
  16. I'm watching the clock until Doctor Who. The television is on Strictly Come Dancing on mute. I have butterflies of anticipation over tonight's episode. It's been a long time since I felt that way over a television show.
  17. Good luck getting the tickets Muggle Not. Glad you had a good time Talisman. Just had an overnight stay at Bruges in Belgium. We lunched in the ancient town of Domburg in the Nederlands , then visited Ypres in Belgium for the evening to see the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. Incredibly moving. Today we started with a visit to the first day of the Snow & Ice Sculpture Festival in Bruges. Fabulous and super cold! We had a lovely lunch and a long walk around town in the chill air, then we headed home. Lovely lovely time.
  18. It's been a day short of a year since you were last here. I hope all is well with you. X

  19. Happy Birthday Jen. I hope all is well and happy with you. Big hugs. XXX

  20. I am enjoying this run up, and cannot wait for Saturday's fun. Loved the prequel, and appreciate how the Who team are tying everything together. The regeneration from warrior doctor to Doctor Doctor (wasn't that a Thompson Twins song back in the 80's?) number 9 would be great, as I would love to see Mr Eccleston given a role in this 50th anniversary. I LOVED his Doctor, all angst and frowns. Great stuff.
  21. I expected the first few episodes to be about bedding in (gardening term!) the characters, but this is going on a bit now. I agree with Raven that we need a clear enemy now, be it an individual or an organisation.
  22. I love, love, loved Northern Exposure, and the complete boxed set has been on my wish list for far too long. Quirky, contemplative, funny and eminently watchable. It's been far too long since I saw an episode, I will have to take measures to change that!
  23. I have really enjoyed the Mortal Instruments series so far. They do not disappoint. Can't wait for the 6th book next year.
  24. For a limited time The Glass Guardian, by the brilliant author Linda Gillard, is on special offer for the kindle, £0.96 on amazon UK $1.55 on amazon US
  25. Another book by Rutherford is 'Sarum', and it is a brilliant read. I can thoroughly recommend it. From fantasticfiction, I have visited Sarum, just a mile or two from Salisbury. Brilliant site.
