  1. Glad that despite things going wonky with your dad that he is now settled. And also good to read that your furry family are doing ok. The Malala story I have found fascinating, and feel that the quote of hers that is doing the rounds is absolutely spot on; The extremists showed what they feared most; a girl with a book.
  2. Another year, another birthday! Have a great day. X

  3. Fanks, but no fanks Janet. I just have to up my game (and perhaps read the books from which the quotes have been selected! )
  4. I managed to get that one too ........just an hour too late! First one I've fathomed so far.
  5. It was amazing, although I should state that many of them were pretty quick to read. I'm back in a dry spell at the moment, although I feel a reading spree coming upon me soon!
  6. Hello Pickle. Haven't 'seen' you in ages. Have a gorgeous birthday. XXX

  7. Is it the Count Of Monte Christo by Dumas?
  8. Broerenkerk Cathedral in Zwolle, Netherlands has been transformed from a cathedral to a book shop. They were given permission do long as they did not harm the structure (stained glass windows, pillars etc). This is the result.. Wonderful isn't it?
  9. ^ Yep, that list is definitely a 'bit book crazy'. I popped into my local charity shop yesterday and bought 7 Roald Dahl books in excellent condition. After I have persuaded my husband to read 'Danny The Champion Of The World' II think he will love it!)I will be giving them to my great-nephews when we next visit - they are 12 years old 8 years old and are book happy kids, so I always want to encourage them. I also picked up 'Warm Bodies' by Isaac Marion. The total for the 8 book was £5. I'm a happy book buyer!
  10. I had bought the last of a favourite YA series, 'Fyre' by Angie Sage. Her Septimus Heap series is a wonderfully realised world, and 'Fyre' a fabulous concluding book. I read 'Fyre', then immediately went back and re read the series from the beginning; 45) Magyk 46) Flyte 47) Physik 48) Queste 49) Syren 50) Darke 51) Fyre Through these 7 books you watch Septimus the seventh son of a seventh son, Jenna the Castle's Princess and Beetle a Castle Scribe grow into themselves and undertake adventures as they repeatedly secure the safety of the Castle and it's inhabitants from those who would cause harm. Original, inventive and stunningly well depicted, this series has been a delight.
  11. Hope you have been enjoying a great birthday Ned. :)

  12. Jasper Fforde's 'The Last Dragonslayer' ?
  13. Is it 'Warm Bodies' ?
  14. Lots of 'Terrifying Tales' on offer on the Amazon UK site for Kindle. There are also some 'Halloween Classics' under their Daily Deal section, from £0.99 to £1.49; Stephen King's 'IT', 'Pet Sematary', & 'MIsery'. Suzuki's 'Ring' 'Falling Angel' 'Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter'
  15. Kitchen towel between the worst pages, then lay them in a warm place with a covering weight (weight bigger than book). That should stop the pages from doing that weird fanning thing that wet books do. Good luck! What were the books?
  16. :D I've seen snippets and have the dvd on my wish list (*cough* husband please take note *cough*)
  17. Doctor Who. The Watch channel are showing them in the run up to the 50th anniversary.
  18. I acquired a cd of the songs from 'Once More With Feeling', the musical episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Sadly I know most of the lyrics, so have been having a right sing-a-long as I have washed up.
  19. Same here. Blue sky and no wind. Got to enjoy while we can, winter is coming!
  20. Us Brits love to share with our European neighbours!
  21. Have been out properly now as I am dog sitting and he needed a walk. A few of our roads are closed due to tree falls, and there is very little traffic on the roads. It is still very gusty and we have intermittent hard rain. Our conservatory is still standing, but my theory is that there are so many gaps in it, the wind blew through it rather than at it!
  22. I'm sitting here with the wind whipping with a howl around the house. Last night it was wild out there, but so far (and I type this with fingers crossed) no local damage to report. I couldn't take the broom stick out, so I'll have to leave it until the 31st. Stay safe and warm everyone!
  23. Happy Birthday Ummlilia. I hope you re enjoying a lovely day.
