  1. Actually, the Christmas carol singers do have to get a license! They have to purchase it from their local council!
  2. It sounds like a really good book, Janet!
  3. See , the thing is, (this is blasphomy, I realise, considering the thread I am in!), I HATE Star Trek! I just love Data. His character was amazing & I could watch the ones he was in over & over & over & over (I think you get the point). My OH loves all things Star Trek, so I have had to suffer through the original, TNG (which was at least bearable), DSN, Voyager & Enterprise......shudder! Ok, I guess I'd best be going now, before someone kills me!
  4. I think I prefer the "Head in the sand" approach! Data never died, they simply stopped making the show.......delusional, I know, but it works for me!
  5. Nollaig, would I be crazy to say that I thought I was the only one who loved Data? I've never met anyone else who loved Data. As for Nemisis - haven't seen it precisely because of what happens to Data!
  6. There aren't very many on there that I have actually read! Out of the ones that I have, I would have to vote for Pippi Longstocking! She rocks! If it was my OH, he'd be voting for The Hungry Caterpillar, which was his absolute fave. I had never heard of it 'til I met him!
  7. Agnes' Scottish Chocolate cake 459 grams all purpose flour (2 cups) 459 grams caster sugar (though I use only 192 grams & it's plenty sweet) (2 cups) 114 grams of quality coaco (I use Green & Blacks) (3/4 cup) 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda 1 teaspoon of salt 2 medium eggs 12 oz of milk (I use skimmed, but the recipe calls for 2%) (1 cup) 170 grams (6 oz) of vegetable oil (I've used olive, corn, rapeseed, flaxseed & grapeseed oils & they all work equally well) (1/2 cup) 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 12 oz of boiling water (1 cup) ~In a large bowl sift together the dry ingredients. ~Add the eggs, milk, vanilla & vegetable oil & mix well. (can be done by hand or using an electric mixer) ~Add the boiling water & mix by hand with a spoon. This will make a very liquid batter, so don't panic that you have done something wrong - you haven't! Pour the batter into a bunt pan, or a 6 inch cake pan & cook in the oven for 40-45 minutes on 350 (175 celcius). **I have noticed that the cake takes a lot longer to cook over here than it does at home. I usually end up having to cook it for around an hour, but I think that's because I am using a smaller pan. When I cook it in my long glass cake dish then it does only take the 40 minutes.**
  8. Hmmmm, all of my recipes are in imperial measurements, too. Do you have imperial measures, Kell, or do you weigh your ingredients?
  9. The first one I ever bought for myself was The Joshua Tree by U2, but I would say that the 1st one I ever owned was some K-tel compilation with loads of 80's music on it, like 8765309 Jenny & Abracadabra by the Steve Miller Band. Great album - my parents still have all our old albums.
  10. Play Dead by Richard Montanari is the 4th in the series about Kevin Byrne & Jessica Balzano & I would say by far the best to date! Really makes me want to read the last one in the series as soon as possible (hint hint, Charm! ). This was one of those books that had me glued to my chair (luckily it was a comfy chair!), as I had to read it cover to cover in one sitting. I would say that if you are a fan of murder/mystery novels then you should really give this series a go! A strong 8/10 for this one!
  11. I finished reading Too Close to Home by Linwood Barclay quite a while ago, but haven't had a chance to get the blog about it written, or even get anything written on here. I know that in the time since I finished reading it a couple other members have read it & I know that at least one of them felt the same way I did. It was a really good book - until you got to the end. I just felt so let down by the ending, it was a bit of a cop-out, really. Barclay could have done so much more with this book, but instead chose to tie-up loose ends, but I think it just went all wrong. I would still recommend that people read this as the characters are really well written & the story is a really interesting one (though he didn't flesh out the plot as much as I would have liked) & well worth the read- in spite of the ending! 8/10

    Hi

Hi Jellybean! Welcome to the forum!
  14. LMAO! Kell, would you like a dead easy recipe for fail-proof chocolate cake? A friend of our family gave it to my Mom & I've made it a gazillion times & it has never failed. It has it's origins in Glasgow, which is where our friend is from, so it would be going back to Scotland, via Canada & England, lol!
  15. Well that decides that then! I loved the Swedish series & really couldn't imagine Kenneth Branagh as Wallander. Thanks Fi!
  16. Thanks & You're welcome!

  17. SueB, that's quite interesting! I tried reading it but hated it. I can't wait to see your review!
  18. I'm with Virgin & we shall stay with Virgin. We've never had any problems & we've been with them for over 3 years now. They do internet only packages, as well as phone/internet packages, & tv/phone/internet packages. I would highly recommend them, especially now that they have e-billing (Royal Mail seemed to lose my bill a lot - along with a lot of my other mail, too).
  19. Hi Blencathra!:17:to the forum!
  20. Saw this one on the news this evening. Kinda surprised it hasn't happened before now! Woman impregnated with wrong embryo
  21. Pizza & spicy chicken wings for us. Can't wait to get moved out of the hotel!
  22. Oh, I definately enjoyed it! I am not so fond of some of how the book was written, but the things I didn't like (luckily) didn't ruin the book for me. Definately a great book & one I shall heartily recommend!
  23. I finished reading The Time Traveller's Wife this morning. I cried!
