  1. I'm watching Freaks and Geeks. Such a great show! Kylie, 'Logan' was in the show, too He played a minor character in one episode: he was a guy from a rivaling high school and he and his crew through sodas at the McKinley freaks
  2. Okay, I understand Another question for you, though: is it just my imagination or is your thread more simple this year? I think you had a whole lot more posts in the beginning of your thread last year!
  3. I noticed this on Goodreads and was thrilled you were reading this book! I totally loved it when I read it Haha, bobbly! You are already recalling books as ones being on the Rory list! I love it (I saw you asking me about it in my thread, I'll get to that soon!) I would totally recommend the book, don't let the size intimidate you Glad to see TAAoK&C is high up on your to-read list! I hope you will enjoy it! Some of the books are definitely ones I wouldn't normally go for, either because I don't fancy them or haven't even heard of them... And there have definitely been a few duds. I don't expect to ever actually finish the list, but I'm having great fun going through it And there have been a few really wonderful treats on the list, books I wouldn't have read otherwise Like The Amazing Adventures, and Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, for example. Aside from the tiny print, is the book hard to read? I added it on my wishlist some time ago but I was worried I might struggle with it, for some reason? When I was reading your post about the dog, I did think that it would've been great if you could've adopted him, but I thought there was probably a reason why you didn't, and that it's really none of my business to ask why you didn't I hope you can make your dream come true this year and that you will get to move to a bigger house and make it seem so much smaller by adopting many wonderful doggies I'm currently re-reading The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year by Sue Townsend, but I'm struggling with it. When I'm reading it, I'm enjoying it, but when I pick it up again the next day, I can hardly remember what I've read the previous day. And I get all the minor characters mixed. Something tells me I should put this book down and start another... I just fear that whichever book I choose, I have no mojo for it
  4. I hope you have a fantastic reading year in 2017, Ben! May you find many literary gems
  5. Hello Dan, nice to see a new reading log by a new member! I see you hail from Australia, bloody hell! Very cool I stayed two months in Sydney in 2010, and also visited Canberra. I went to the Book Fair there, with our very own Kylie. I'm sure you've been there, too? I see you have an ecclectic taste in books! I've only read The Girl on the Train (loved it) and The Alchemist (hated it) and Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts (it was okay) from your list, though. Looking forward to seeing what this year brings you, bookwise!
  6. Dude, that's cold! Take care, babe! It's been a wild ride over here. It was +7c in Helsinki on New Year's Eve. Then on Monday it got a bit colder and started snowing. On Tuesday, we had snow all over the place! And then on Thursday, it was -17c. What a change in a week! It's cold today, too, so I'm staying in (it's a bank holiday, wohooo!), and I'm going to just relax and take it easy and enjoy the warmth of my apartment
  7. Sonovagun! My Bullet Journal is here! I'm so excited, I can't remember the last time I was this excited about something as (seemingly) trivial as this I'm going to get back to the new posts in this thread a bit later: I'm too pumped to go through them now, as I have my own Bullet Journal to look at and love, and start up Wohooooooo!!!
  8. Welcome back!
  9. Welcome to the forum!
  10. That's a great, classic movie to start the year with
  11. Wild is actually referred to in the new season of GG, of this year, so you have a long ways to go till then! But wow, you've already read a Rory Gilmore challenge book and you've only just started watching the show!! :D I'm so glad to hear you liked the book Did the book inspire you or have you been to long walks even before? I was reading my book log from the start, earlier this week, because of nostalgia, and I asked you about your visits to library and you told me how you'd gotten a pedometer and going to the library was one way of getting those steps every Saturday I always like looking at your pictures from your walks! You might find it amusing how the book and the movie are referred to in GG... And how their difference is referred to I can't believe you're already watching season 5!! That's awesome! Oh, by the way... Are you in any way tempted to start the Rory Gilmore reading challenge? I'm not pushing it on you, don't worry! But I have to say, and I'm trying to say this as objectively as possible, the Rory list has actually introduced me to a number of books I wouldn't have read otherwise, and that were really amazing! So I'm really happy about the book list There have been a few duds, too, but the amazing ones far outnumber the duds
  12. That's what I'm hoping Bujo will do for me, too: keep me more organized! It would be wonderful to have everything together in one notebook... I searched Bujos on youtube last night and wow, there's so much to watch! I got pretty excited about the whole thing I would love it if you'd post pictures!! Please and thank you! Do you have the original BuJo notebook, or what do you use, if you don't mind my asking? I hear Leuchtturm 1917 is good, too. I've gone crazy and I've just ordered one of those online Thank you so much for posting all those pictures! Your BuJo looks so great and organized! I love it how you have made it so colorful and detailed, too. Going with different fonts and styles of writing... So cool! One question I would like to ask you both: do you feel it takes a lot of time, or do you feel it actually saves you time (what with how you used to keep things organized or how they were unorganized)? I don't know, maybe I have really great expectations for the BuJo, but I hope it will help me get really organized. I also love notebooks and paper and keeping things together, I hope I can make it look nice and sort of make it mine
  13. Yay for a new Kylie reading log! I hope you have a fabulous reading year in 2017, my darling First off, I want to reiterate what I said on FB: I love it that you have updated your Best Books list, because I've been wanting to ask you if you have any updates. Second, I love how you've organized the reference links in your first post. It's so tidy and clean and looks great. So much better than mine! Have you changed it from last year, is it more simple this year? Or am I just imagining things. Wow at TBR being close to 1500 books Bow to the master! Third, your selected wishlist is so short! Where do you keep the rest of the titles Re: priority reads and the book jar: "This is a list of the books I'd most like to read this year. In 2015, I read 20 books (17 fiction, 3 non-fiction) out of the 81 on the list. In 2016, I read 14 books (12 fiction, 2 non-fiction) out of 77 on the list. I haven’t yet added extra books to the list for 2017." That's really well done! I did the book jar thing last year and read 0 (0. As in zero.) books based on what came up from the jar. 0. Re: Rory challenge: I just wanted to again thank you for sending me the compiled list. I know it must've taken you ages to do the whole thing, and I really appreciate the fact! Thank you for letting me have it and use it! You saved me a whole lot of trouble I also love how you've listed your TBR books according to their being on multiple challenge lists Makes prioritizing easier, should you want to prioritize! And I feel rather humbled and honored to be in the post where you've listed my favorites Mwaaaah! I wish you loads of luck with keeping your lists up to date!
  14. 52. My lowest total since 2007.
  15. I'm not sure where this would belong to, so feel free to move this to a more suitable section... But this thread is about 'Bullet journals'. I found about it today and I thought the idea is pretty good. I'm one of those people who has notebooks and post-its and whatnots all over the place and it's very frustrating at times. I have notes of things I don't know when I will have the time or inclination to do something about, and yet I want to be reminded of those things, but not constantly. So for this, a bullet journal might seem ideal... Does anyone here keep a bullet journal? Here's a link to the bulletjournal website, and here's a youtube video of how to bullet journal.
  16. December - reading summary The Real Liddy James by Anne-Marie Casey - library loan - abandoned: the books seems really great, but I was just in no reading mood! I will most definitely give this one another go, at a better time! 52 - Bridget Jones's Baby by Helen Fielding - library loan - 2/5 What an awful reading month Only one read book, and that one was a huge disappointment! I tried reading The Real Liddy James for three (!) weeks, but I wasn't able to do it. It's honestly not the books fault: I really truly enjoyed it, but my mojo was AWOL and I couldn't concentrate and what else. I'm going to give the book another, well deserved go next year, and hope to finish it and love it This was a very sad end to a very sad reading year. I'm already posting this month's stats today as I know there's no way I'm going to be able to start and finish something tomorrow. Oh well! Better and happier reads in 2017! (I'm still going to go over some statistics and stuff, before I'll say goodbye to this thread.)
  17. 52. Bridget Jones's Baby by Helen Fielding Amazon: 8:45 P.M. Realize there have been so many times in my life when have fantasized about going to a scan with Mark or Daniel: just not both at the same time. Before motherhood, before marriage, Bridget with biological clock ticking very, very loudly, finds herself unexpectedly pregnant at the eleventh hour: a joyful pregnancy which is dominated, however, by a crucial but terribly awkward question – who is the father? Mark Darcy: honourable, decent, notable human rights lawyer? Or Daniel Cleaver: charming, witty, notable fudgewit? 9:45 PM It’s like they’re two halves of the perfect man, who’ll spend the rest of their lives each wanting to outdo the other one. And now it’s all enacting itself in my stomach. In this gloriously funny, touching story of baby-deadline panic, maternal bliss, and social, professional, technological, culinary and childbirth chaos, Bridget Jones – global phenomenon and the world’s favorite Singleton – is back with a bump. Thoughts: I wanted to love this as much as the three previous Bridget Jones novels, and I was looking forward to enjoying the read. However, in all honesty, I was somewhat bored by the book. For the first time, I'd seen the movie before the book, and while that may have played some very small part in me not liking the book as much, it is however the book I blame: it just wasn't up to par with the previous novels It wasn't that funny, there was no depth to the story, and it was just plain boring at times. I was so awfully disappointed!! I enjoyed the movie so much in itself, and so, so much more in comparison! I won't be buying my own copy of this Jones book 2/5 P.S. I can't wait to hear other people's thoughts on the book. I want to know if it's just me, or if it's Helen Fielding.
  18. Started watching Freaks & Geeks. Good stuff
  19. Oh poor bobbly! Sorry to hear about the water pipe That sucks ass!!! On another note, I take my hat off to you for rescuing the dog! You kick ass!! I hope you feel better soon! Thanking socks My socks are forever getting holes in them, so maybe I will try the thanking of socks -process :D Hopefully it works!
  20. 277? How did that happen?? Oh boy, you have your work cut out for you! Happy reading, and happy life in 2017, Laura!
  21. ^ The price is of course another issue! I'm glad that by pure luck, I like the cheaper ones better as they are smaller This was the last day for me at work this year! On a whim, I went to a Salvation Army charityshop as it's there, on my way home. I didn't expect to find anything, but I did! I found a Finnish copy of Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and you who've watched the new season of GG know that this is a classic There was no price tag on the book, but as there was a sign that said 'Everything 50% off today only!' I went for the book. I also found a copy of this Finnish novel in a long, long Finnish book series by Dad's favorite author. I've promised him I would read this particular book sometime in 2017, before Christmas. As there will be a quiz on the book when I go home for Christmas  The book is maybe 600 pages long, and there's probably at least 20 books in the series... Sigh!!! I can't believe Dad has read all of the books. Anyway, the book was 5€, but I got it half price I had to visit the library as I had some books there for me, and I checked the free book swap shelf there, and found a copy of The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow! I know it's on one of my reading challenges list, and I think someone on here reviewed the book some years ago and because of the great review the book made its way to my wishlist. I'm so happy to have found a copy! But these books were for sure the last ones for me to acquire this year!! I've been so bad this year!

    Howdy ho

    Welcome to the forum!
  23. I've now finished the book and what I said before still stands I'm so disappointed I enjoyed the movie a whole lot more than the book, and that's saying a lot! I can't wait for someone else to read the book and share their thoughts!
  24. Yes, I hope, too, that the books are enjoyable in any case! I also like their covers I much prefer smaller paperbacks in general... Although I do quite like bigger paper backs... They seem more elegant... But they take up more space Yes, maybe they were! I went to another bookstore today, to check out their book sale I was visiting the mall in order to get new pictures for my passport application and when that was over, I thought I needed some retail therapy (I hate getting my picture taken) Luckily they didn't have any English titles to offer, and I managed to get out without buying anything! That's what it boils down to, doesn't it? Yesterday I told myself, 'there's no use in buying this copy now on sale, because soon enough you'll hate it that it's a bigger edition than the other books in the series and you'll start looking for the right edition, and then you'll spend the money all over again to buy a new copy'. Thanks! My reading plans include a wish to finish my current read, the fourth Bridget Jones novel by the end of the year. That I ought to manage... I don't have any other plans because my mojo seems to be holding me in suspense, once again. Oh but it would be wonderful to be able to get stuck in some wonderful novel ... and to start next year in the middle of something great
  25. Wow, that's really great!! Lucky you!
