  1. Oh boy... I've just ordered Creative Lettering and Beyond: Inspiring tips, techniques, and ideas for hand lettering your way to beautiful works of art by Gabri Joy Kirkendall et al.
  2. As said before, I'm watching the episode where C returns to town, and they are meeting the parents, and
  3. It seems hubby might not be all that excited about clear outs? Gladly the latest one's over now and he can go back to his old self There was an article about it in a Finnish paper saying that some have gone a bit overboard with it, and have dumped a load of things at charityshops, and now the stuff is not moving anywhere from there. My Boss did a clear out after having heard of KonMari (but not reading the book), and she got a stand at a flea market for two weeks. She made a bit of profit and the apartment has more space now Sadly, almost none of the books she put on the stand were sold I had to take them to a charityshop and the library's book swap shelf.
  4. Yep, it was pretty mind blowing when the latter happened! Yep, definite child-rearing hips She actually had a baby a while ago, Kylie informed me! The actor, that is, not Rory So your husband hasn't given GG a go? Did he even want to try it, or was he adamant that it wasn't his thing? You still have many wonderful things to see and witness, but yes, by your rate, the end is nigh. It's a sad inevitability! But if it makes you feel any better, it's so re-watchable! Fear not, you'll be having many blissful re-watches I've never ever liked Logan... I disliked him from the get-go. He's so smug and I think he did Rory no good. So entitled and hedonistic and smug. Yes, he has his own problems, but he could do something about him. I how I detest him. He's done it all Personally, not one of my favorite characters. He annoys me But I'm in the minority!
  5. It's kinda like a Rory book drawer. You know, how she had a drawer and one would expect there's be socks and underwear and tops and what not, but it was filled with books I once had a Rory drawer... It was fun!
  6. Monday: 72 pages of Risteily by Mats Strandberg
  7. I can't believe Jojo's already 3½ years old!! Where has all that time gone? I'm sorry about her leg/back I'm sure she'd love nothing better than to just continue running and doing agility and she's wondering why her Mommy won't let her! Many cuddles to her from me And many cuddles to Obi! Long live Obi! I remember it's the copy I sent you, but I didn't want to mention it because that would probably remind you of the copy of Human Traces you sent me and the fact that I've still not read it yet Once you read yours, I'm bound to feel I need to read mine... I'd never watched GwtW, either, so I read the book without any detailed idea of what it was about! And it worked just fine. It was really great! I dare say you'll like it, too! The updating the Book Box is so annoying I never once updated it last year, and I did buy over 80 titles... Luckily I got a printer off my friend at the end of last year and I printed out all my TBR titles and so that did the trick. I never would've done it if I had had to write all the titles down! Ah, okay... Try to forget about the hype and just jump in, if and when you feel like it. If it's not your thing, then it's not your thing We can't all like the same books, time after time! Obi so cool
  8. Thanks Athena! I'm kinda sad about my hemoglobin level. But at least that would explain some things. I'm pale as a ghost at times and I do get out of breath more easily than I used to and other things. But now it's easier when I know what it is. I'm going to also take better care of my diet When I was recently keeping log of what I ate, I did find that most days I didn't get enough iron in my food. I'll have to fix that! Edit: But why did the doctor not call me about my hemoglobin!! I thought she'd tell me everything was fine, and that the reason why she didn't call me was that there was nothing wrong with me. Blasted thing...
  9. I've forgotten about this... When I started the thread, I was eager to do all the copy+pasting of lists on the first page, and I actually forgot about saying something about what my goals are for the year. Last year I my goal was to read more TBR books than I acquired books for TBR, and failed miserably. I think this is a combination of me having still been under the spell of the great selection at the libraries here in Helsinki. It's also to do with the fact that I now had a steady job and could actually spend money on books... And my mojo was all over the place so book buying was therapeutic. Anyway, this year I really want to try and get back to my precious TBR. The dusting of the books and the bookcase showed me how many amazing books I have to read! I also want to get back to some challenges... Mainly the Rory Gilmore one, now that I'm re-watching the series from the start. So... I'm going to try very hard not to go over the new acquisitions on the library's website and make reservations like there's no tomorrow. I've already put a hold on some of the reservations so they are not coming for me now. I have now maybe 15 library loans to read. I'll try very hard to read all of those, or at least the ones I have the mood for, and then once those are read and taken back to the library, I'll try and get back to my TBR. I'll try and go with the TBR as much as possible and only borrow a library book every now and then. Having said that, I don't want to be completely anal about the whole thing. I do want to go where my mood takes me, as I'm a mood reader. I don't want to force my reading. But I will try to focus more on my TBR
  10. I know!!! It's soooo frustrating!! Why, oh why?! Thanks Athena! I don't feel better today, but I do feel fine enough to read and that's what matters I can take full advantage of this flu spell I might as well make the most of it! Isn't it great?! I just need to get cracking with the updating. I was thinking.. I don't have to go over the books on the shelf to add to the list, I could just look at the Book Acquired lists on my reading logs from 2012 - to this day and add the ones I still own. That's easier! I don't have to type down the names, it's just copy-pasting... Well, a whole helluva lot of copy+pasting...
  11. As I'd not heard from the doctor by now, I called the service and got her to call me today. Turns out my blood sugar stuff is fine (yay!!) and my cholesterol's fine (yay!!) but my hemoglobin level's low. When she told me the number, I was shocked. I've never been that low. I'm going to start taking iron supplements and then I'll go and get my levels checked and get a doctor's appointment to see what's what. So good news but also not that great news.
  12. Great job Anna! I hear the Faulkner book you were reading is hard... I mean I've heard other people say it, too.
  13. Oh god, that book was the pits!! 1/5! The author wouldn't shut up about a nightgown. It was on every page about five times (And I did finish that darn book because I thought it might be going somewhere. Nope!! I've never had any rules concerning abandoning a book. If I don't like a book or become bored, I leave it. I've abandoned a book only after a few sentences.
  14. That's exactly what happened with me, too! I'd never seen the movie so had no idea what it was about, but thought it would be very syrupy.. But it was a wicked historical account! Totally riveting. I even got the Scarlett book and Rhett's People, but I wanted to re-read GwtW first. Yeah, it was probably the main female character. It was soooo freaky! It was something I'd never experienced before, when reading a book... Being sick is a real pain in the ass, but if I do get sick, I have GG to keep me company I've really gotten into re-watching the show!
  15. Thanks Athena! I would say I've done great, considering how my mojo was AWOL for so many weeks. But I've finally found a book that keeps me going! Sunday: 74 pages of Risteily by Mats Strandberg (I might continue with a personal read-a-thon week, as I'm coming down with flu or something and I might not be able to go to work... This would be a great time to continue with my willing mojo!)
  16. Well done! You're on a roll! Oh no, the dusting was for me only. I meant we were both going to take part in fundling our books I'm sure yours would be a much more cheery song as mine, as yours wouldn't involve any housework...
  17. Oh and yesterday I dusted all my books and the bookcase! It took me so long I think I've told you guys that my computer crashed a few years ago and I lost all the documents and stuff on the hard drive. Meaning the list with all the titles of the books I own, and their price in parenthesis, along with the details of where I bought them and when, or if I got them as a present and from whom. A few weeks ago I tried my old computer, and managed to fish out the document from there. It hasn't been updated since 2012, but there's still a lot of titles! I was so happy I've been meaning to start adding all my new books to that list, and I thought I'd do it while I was dusting the books, but then I realized that it would take me a whole lot longer and I would probably tire of it and not dust the bookcase at all. The dusting was the priority, as I'm allergic to it... So writing down the titles had to be left for later. I managed to find 6 books that I will give away. They are mostly books I got from my Boss, or rather books that Boss wanted to get rid of and I took them home with me, as they were by authors I've been wanting to try. I'm not that keen on them anymore, my TBR being huge as it is, so I'm getting rid of them.
  18. I do hope to like it, so I've got that going for me. Oddly enough, while I think I'm intimidated by it, I've never actually picked it up to read the first few pages to see if it's easy. Had I done that at some point, I might've already found out it was very readable and I might've already read the book! The style's definitely something I know Kylie read it (for GG) and liked it a lot I don't remember is she LOVED it, but at least she liked it But yeah, I think one must have time and one's wits about one when reading it! I've had that happen to me with Gone with the Wind, so maybe it'll be the same with this one I think I'd be more keen to try it if I at least had a Finnish copy: the reading would be faster for me and so it wouldn't seem that awfully long. The Ferris Wheel... I don't remember why it happened, or if it had any significance in the story. But oh boy! In other news, after a three day long weekend (Friday being a bank holiday), I went to work today, only to discover that I was probably coming down with a flu. I managed to do the most important things so that Boss will survive more easily for the next couple of days, if I do get sick and can't go to work. I don't have a fever but my throat's feeling funny and I'm feeling awful. Luckily I have meds and managed to go grocery shopping before coming back home, so I can settle down and take it easy without having to go out for anything. I might turn this into a long read-a-thon week!
  19. So annoying!! But kinda funny that it happened to both of us with this topic Woof! The books you mention in your list are all ones I've not read so I don't have any other comments Woof Oh yay!! I already want to re-read it. Yes and the rest of it would be 'Be With Me' and being the co-dependent person that I am, what's not to like! Nawh, I just love the color, and simplicity of the cover Yes Oi! I read other children's novels! And I read other illustrated books too! But yes, it was the only classic. So there
  20. WAYYY! He must've been young but he totally looked like Logan. Only younger. But not like a 12yo-young. He was playing a high school student. I think he was playing someone who was 16-17 years old or something. I have to google how old the actor is... Okay he was born in 1977 (he looks our age, not -77!! ), so when the series was filmed, he was ... 22-23 Oh wow, he'll be 40 this year!! When he played Logan, he was... 26? Okay, so he is a young face and plays younger-than-he-really-is characters.
  21. Thanks Athena! I don't think there's any way 2017 can be any worse than 2016 Although let's knock on wood, just in case
  22. I was actually going to tidy my bookshelves, too, as they need dusting! Remember how Lorelai wanted Luke to paint the diner and she made up that painting song? I wonder if we could come up with a bookshelf tidying song! If you come up with anything, record it and send it over!
  23. I have to say, there were plenty of really ugly washi tape at the bookstore, but when I rummaged through, I found the pretty one I didn't really know washi tape existed, before. Or I may have seen it but I had no idea what people might use it for. Now I know It's really easy to get carried away when buying stuff for one's BuJo and buying stationary in general I did wish that this thread would inspire others, when I started it, so thanks! Brown cow... :D Never heard that before! I know about being hyper-critical about one's writing, I'm the same way. But I just think that my being critical shouldn't stop me from doing something that I really want to do and which I might find fun doing! I hope we can get you more excited I really didn't like the idea of getting a pink journal, because pink isn't my color at all, and I wanted a black or a blue one, but there were only pink ones in stock, as well as red ones. But now that I have the pink one... I love it! It's good to mix things up a bit. I can put the inspirational quote postcard on my fridge, and have been meaning to do so. And the new avatar helps
  24. Happy reading in 2017, chalie! Very happy to see the new log here! We did pretty much the same number of buying last year, and about the same number of reading... Let's try and switch gear this year and read more than acquire! Presents and book swaps are of course fine Do you think you'll be trying the Book Jar again this year? I still have mine but have not tried it once! I hope I make more use of it this year. Barrows, Annie – The Truth According to Us this is also on my TBR, I really, really hope to like it! Du Maurier, Daphne – My Cousin Rachel Hawkins, Paula – The Girl on the Train Jaaskelainen, Pasi Ilmari – Rabbit Back Literature Society King, Stephen – The Stand Mitchell, Margaret – Gone with the Wind Segal, Erich – The Class ^ These are all wonderful reads in their own way The Stand and Gone with the Wind are huuuuge books, but once you get going, you can't put them down. That is, if you enjoy them They'll just basically read themselves and you'll be sorry to see them end so soon!
