  1. I've only managed 20 so far this year and I seem to have a acquired quite a few more than that. I don't do challenges as I know that I'm not good at sticking to them. I find that requesting a review book and then reviewing it is the most challenge I really wish to give myself. For the next 6 months it would be good to try to read more books than the amount I actually acquire. Can't see that happening though - especially as I've just spotted a collection of 30 bargains that seem to good to miss - although I could be put off if anyone starts telling me that they're dreadful.
  2. Yes they do look a bargain Ben - that's the problem - I like bargains! But is this a baragin when you already have an enormous TBR?! Sorry Bookjumper - hope you have some hair left! I've not ordered them yet - I'm hoping I'll either get put off or else someone will tell they're fantastic reads! Most seem to get reasonable reviews elsewhere but it's always good to hear BCF opinions!
  3. I'm in a book buying mood and I am thinking of purchasing these three collections: Summer Reading Wexford Collection Hamish MacBeth Collection Any advice, for or against, gratefully received! When I will get round to reading them is a different matter, but my book addiction seems to have raised it's head again.
  4. That sounds a good read - I will keep my eyes open for that one - I just noticed Crazy as Chocolate is included in this bunch for

    Tennis

Yes it was a great, but tense match and it was weird to still be watching it live at 10.40 in the evening!
  6. I am so glad I did not judge Once Upon a Time in England by Helen Walsh by its book cover. It really did look like some old wallpaper covering to me that I didn't appreciate. If anyone enjoys a harrowing tale then it's one to read.
  7. I most certainly think he's one of a kind

I'm loving the book and have just pulled myself away from it again. I think this will be finished today or tommorow. I did enjoy the first but I'm enjoying this one more most definitely!

I'm just at the part where Dex finds himself upside down!

  8. Hi pipread

I've started on Dearly Devoted Dexter :) - what a gruesome find that first body was! :lurker: Can't get the inage out of my head.

I'm not sure that I should say I'm enjoying it, but I am!

  9. I've just finished Once Upon a Time in England by Helen Marsh - it was not a cheery tale in general but it was really gripping and the ending had me in tears. It's about a mixed marriage and their 2 children set in the 70's and 80's.
  10. Gosh you are organised! - I used the power edit to sort the collections but I certainly haven't got round to deleting the tags yet.
  11. Has anyone been using the new collections feature in Librarything? I've been finding it very handy for sorting books into my wishlist and also all those books I've read and don't own. I've even added my own collection for childhood books. It is nice to be able to separate the books without the need for tags.
  12. Thanks Inver - I certainly have phases of doing some then none. It puts me off when I have to start picking out my errors as I'm not paying enough attention.
  13. It's been slow going, but I am getting there and thoroughly enjoying the relaxation I get from doing it.
  14. Yes that was fun Inver! I've read that one so won't put my name in the hat this time.
  15. It's a while ago since I read it and I remember feeling very mixed over the book, but when I saw the sequel The Search for the Dice Man I was drawn to it and knew that I must read this as well. I suppose that must say something about the original that I want to read the follow-up.
  16. Hi and Welcome I see that you're reading The Dice Man - what do you think of it? I read that a while back and have been meaning to pick up the sequel at some point.
  17. I'm a wannabe singer from Warrington in the 70's and hopefully about to be signed up. I'm now heading home to my wife, with a stop on the way to pickup a chinese takeaway, while some thugs outside decide if I'm worth beating up.
  18. Thank you! - I can't wait to get stuck into the second book. You have a great weekend too!

  19. That's really kind of you and that would be great. I would certainly love to borrow it. :D

  20. Well I haven't got or read Second Glance and that looks an interesting read. Thanks for doing this Inver.
  21. Gus is a hard headed, but soft hearted ex journalist and alcoholic and we meet him again in this second outing from Tony Black. The owner of a pit bull terrier, that savaged and killed a little 3 year old girl, is found murdered on an Edinburgh hill by Gus, as he just happens to stumble upon him whilst he was investigating a ruckus involving some thugs torturing a dog, which then decides, after being rescued, that he
  22. I agree with you Ceinwenn!
  23. I'm pleased he got 3rd place too! I didn't expect him to win although I would have thought it fantastic if he had. I'd love to chill out to an album of his!
  24. Took the words right out of my mouth, but the weird thing was I counldn't stop reading it!
  25. This is a book aimed at those people who are out of touch with their feelings and emotions, although anyone may gain from reading it. The book explains that many people are afraid of their emotions (feeling phobia) and truly do not accept them and will rationalise in their head, with their thoughts, as the emotions can be too strong for them to deal with. The book advises really feeling those feelings and emotions through the body and to leave the thinking for later. It gives examples of people and their lives and looks at the influence of their upbringing with regards to how they deal with emotions. It then gives advice how to deal with the fear and accept your own emotions in full. I found this an interesting book, well written and easy to follow and understand. I have read some similar books before and I wasn
