I think it's worth trying a couple of chapters - you never know and at least if you don't like it then you've given it a go.
I've lent a friend of mine a book and wouldn't be offended if she gave it back saying she hadn't read it I had after all plucked it from my bookcase and handed it to her, so in some ways I've 'forced' my taste on her and have to respect that she may not like it as much as I did.
I felt sorry for Rachel who had calmed things down, put things in perspective only to have the Alpha males come in and start Jennifer off again - I think at that point it stopped being about the painting.
I have one that reads and one that doesn't - same reading example set to both. At the end of the day they are individuals - something I have to keep reminding myself when I wonder in despair at certain behaviours that I don't approve of - eg. the tidy gene seemed to have skipped a generation!
There's a mixed response to the Richard and Judy books. Unfortunately the library buys in many copies of the books which is seen as a waste of resources especially when after it is all over multiple copies take up precious shelf space. Resources, funding etc are a serious issue and so I respect that point of view completely. Personally I feel that anything that gets people reading is good, and having the collection focuses people and often provides common ground and at times encourages people to read books they wouldn't normally. Often readers will look at the stand and ask whether we can recommend any of the books - because of that I like to make the effort to try out one or two. What's nice is that your attention can be drawn to books you may never have noticed.
As staff we are all very varied in our reading and that too can determine how enthusiastic staff are about the selected books. Plus not everyone likes Richard and Judy so that's another part of the equation.
Yes I read this too and was so pleased. I checked to see when it's out - wanted to get first on the list at the library and it's not until next year from what I could gather.
Hello and welcome.
I'm not familiar with any of the books you picked up but hope they prove to be a good read. You will find loads of recommendations here.
Have fun.

Hi Paula - thank you so much for sending the Louise Wener book - it looks really good. I don't think it will take me long to read What Was Lost and then I'll move on to it next,
Wasn't it gross - and what about Mario's awful horse joke - didn't that go down well - not.
I'd like Luke to win although I think the company of 'the old married couple' are making him rather bitchy.
Thanks - just spent the last half hour trying to upload and edit it on photobucket. It's another photo from that garden centre I went to a couple of weeks ago.
