  1. They're just virtual awards for fun. For example the witching hour award (Read 5 times between 12am-1am), or the page turner award for reading a book two hours straight. It's a bit like Xbox awards that get released when you play games (although I think you can actually spend those as gamer points or something?)
  2. Gosh The Raw Shark Texts that sounds a very unusual read. It does sound like the plot for a film as you say.
  3. Hi welcome from another from the land of song
  4. Ah yes - I think I got a reward yesterday :-)
  5. I've just noticed Raven's "If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning." Love it!
  6. Yippee I just learned that John Harwood has a new novel coming out in 2013: The Asylum. I'll definitely be getting that one!
  7. Well so far so good. It was easy to setup and it's been easy to get books on there (all using my birthday kobo vouchers ) but I haven't done any real reading yet, except for a few samples. It's been easy to use for what I've done with it so far, things like changing the font size and line spacing. I even get the little line drawings from Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle In Time", they are rendered quite well. So far happy happy happy. The glo light is good too, a very smooth light all over the page which you can adjust.
  8. So I finally finished The Historian. While I would say overall I enjoyed it, I did find it too long and a bit slow in parts. There was a lot of detail to digest, about the history, and the landscapes and the country, almost as much of this as actual plot I thought. The plot itself however was quite good, but it was split over several interleaving narrators and sometimes the narrative of one narrator would go on for so long that I would have forgotten the thread of the next new voice when it came along. I wouldn't rush to read another book by her. Next: I'm going to make a start on The History of Modern Britain by Andrew Marr, which so far has had me utterly absorbed. I doubt i will read it in one go though, especially as I am itching to crack on with my new Kobo reader
  9. So what did you make of the result? I was thinking either Anton or both of them should win as Anton was slightly more inventive than Kerri but her food was perfect too. I was really pleased with the result. I expect all three will go on to great things.
  10. Ooh interesting, I was thinking of making that my first Kobo read :-)
  11. I saw that quite recently. It's actually pretty good. I saw The Machinist the other day. I thought it was amazing!!! Very interesting and non-run-of the-mill psychological thriller. Christian Bale is excellent in it. Loved it!
  12. Mrs Frisby and the rats of Nimh? Although that's possibly not a 'sweet' tale.
  13. Woot - got my Kobo today Looking forward to trying it out, though I don't suppose it will be very soon as a) I have a busy week and b) I still have some paper books to get though. Excited though!
  14. I have used it. I didn't get any abuse but you need to work out your pricings if you want to make any money as amazon do take a good snip. I don't really mind if i break even or just make a small amount as I only really use it to get rid of stuff that's taking up space but is a bit too esoteric for the charity shop.
  15. Yes Tom Kerridge was lovely. He brought out the best in them by not being an a***hole like the previous two who just seemed unnecessarily stern. I was wondering if they'd put them both through seeing as it was so close. A bit gutting for the other two who thought they were through to finals week and now have to face another knockout round, but still it was the right decision I think, I don't see what else they could have done. Wow £25 seems alright for a 2 star dinner. I'll meet you there Poppy
  16. Sounds like you're enjoying it. Looking forward to your thoughts when you finish it I totally know what you mean. He executes his outlandish ideas perfectly.
  17. I love the sound of Transgressions Willoyd. Another for the wish list
  18. So the first finalist has been chosen. I definitely think the right one of the two went through.
  19. Oh I loved My Cousin Rachel. It was such a beautifully written story, and with a great plot. Very absorbing.
  20. I like the sound of Nicholas Evans BB, I've just added him to my list of authors to try. I like the sound of The Loop too.
  21. Interesting opinions on The Help. I might skip that one then and watch the film instead.
  22. Oh I loved Pet Semetary - possibly my favourite after Misery. Enjoy Ian
  23. Great review of Everything and Nothing, Kat. It sounds great!
  24. I think I'm going to ask for this for Christmas. I've wanted to read Kafka for ages and the idea of this story really appeals to me.
  25. Merry Christmas BookNutt
