  1. I love Jonhanassburg Reisling. Fabulous.

Funny thing is I grew up in Napa, California.....and I know NOTHING about wine. Well, other than it comes in two colors (with variations) and sits in a barrel for a long time. :welcomeboard:

My favorite wine EVER was a white chardonnay from Flora Springs in the Napa Valley. It was sweet and fruity and very light. I don't like my wine heavy.

I love all the Spanish wines referenced here. I realize that I've been very isolated in my wine choices.

    This thread is GREAT.

jenmck, Flora Springs makes nice wines. I am an acquaintance of one of the owners of the winery, Mike Komes. He and I worked together for a large engineering/construction company (you probably know of the company since you are close to San Francisco). Mike was a VP of the company. I once bought a Datsun 260Z from him, many years ago.

  2. Hi Muggle Not. Great to see you again.

I would be stuck. Everything sounds delicious, but I don't know what some of the things are, like 'Fontina'? I guess the cheeses are special to US too.

    I think I would choose :-

    The Frenchman Bay Crab cakes

    The Lobster Soup,

    Mixed Organic Field Greens,

    And the Maine Haddock.

No Blueberry Pie, (though I love it) as I wouldn't have room!

    Pp

Hi Purple Poppy. The Haddock is very good as it is caught local. I sometimes have a haddock sandwich for lunch while on vacation. I know this nice quaint little restaurant where the haddock sandwiches are excellent.

    are you doing OK.

  3. That is going to be a fantastic painting Muggle!

    Your cousin is very talented.

Thanks, she is getting very close to finishing the painting. She has enjoyed doing it and her friends tell her she should not "part" with the painting as it is very good. Recently, she told me that after she finishes it will still take the painting from 6 to 12 months to completely dry.

  4. My cousin paints, both water color and oil as a hobby. She is doing an oil painting for me from a photo that I selected of Bar Harbor, one of my favorite vacation places. She has been sending me progress photos of the painting for the last 3 or 4 months, or more. If there is any interest I will post a couple progress photos of the painting from time to time. This is the photo that she is using as a guide for the painting.

Photos deleted.................no more progress photos, no interest.

  5. BTW, it will be over 1000 miles for us to drive up to Bar Harbor and, of course, another 1000 miles back, but the food is worth the trip.

    What I will select:

    1st night

Appetizer - Gulf shrimp and Lobster Cocktail

Soup - New England Clam Chowder

Entree - Maine Lobster Meat sauteed in butter

Dessert - Blueberry Cheesecake made with "wild' Maine blueberries

    2nd night

Appetizer - Gulf shrimp and Lobster Cocktail

    Soup - Lobster Bisque soup

    Entree - Lobster Pie

Dessert - Blueberry Cheesecake made with "wild' Maine blueberries

I will have wine with one dinner and a bottle of Blueberry Beer with the other dinner.

  7. I'm on page 331 and really enjoying it although i'm a little bit confused:

I have got used to this disease killing nearly everyone and not expecting it to be a "supernatural" story but now there is this strange man called Randall Flagg who it would seem is not human. Am I correct in thinking this?

Other than that a fantastic read!

Sorry, but I will not tell. You gotta read the book.

  8. Hi there,

I'm Nicola, am from the North-East of England and have just joined. I was a bit fed up of everyone I know thinking my 'book talk' is dull as dishwater, so I joined up here.

I'm damned shy, but it looks quite friendly here so I can't wait to start posting. Best wishes to everyone, hope to chat to you soon x

Who are some of your favorite authors and what are some of your favorite books.

    Welcome aboard.

  9. I am going to vacation up in maine sometime in September. Hope that I have time to visit the locales of many of his books. Th last time I was in Maine I got an eerie feeling when driving in areas where his books took place.

  10. I don't usually go crazy for Chardonnay, but I bought a bottle of Trivento Chardonnay, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Of course you would like it, cause you know that I can't find it here. B)

The Polka Dot Reisling was not one of our favorites and we will not buy any more of it.

Tomorrow we may go to the Shelton Vineyard and buy a case of their Reisling. It is very good.

We will also visit http://www.visitmayberry.com/ as we did not go today.

  11. We are harvesting spinach, spring onions, and radishes from the garden. Spinach salads are really good. The tomato plants are doing nicely and all have little tomatoes on them. The cucumber vines are about a size where they will start climbing the trellis that I put in. Zucchini and squash are also starting to vine out. Pepper plants are starting to put on blossoms. Nice time of the year.
