  1. Ugly Betty is on tonight. Watched a preview last night and it appears like the sandwich guy is back in the show. :lol:

     

    Btw, there is a new show called Private Practice that is excellent with great stories.

  2. I liked biscuits and gravy. I think if it's made well ( make sure the white sauce picks up all the flavour from cooking sausage ) then it can be good.

     

    Now grits... I really can't get on with that!

    When you eat the grits you should use some maple syrup mixed in with them. They are very good that way.

     

    Echo, try making the pancakes from scratch with flour and buttermilk. They are very easy to make and are very good. I can't remember the last time I used a mix, hmmm, maybe never.

  3. You are correct stating that he was very good in Six Feet Under which was a heck of a good show and in which the final episode was one of the best shows that I have seen.

     

    Back to Ugly Betty, I think (hope) they are just trying to get people's attention by generating some new interests in the show.

    I see that you are in Boston, so......the show is on ABC on Thursday nights at 8:00pm. Watch an episode or two and determine for yourself if you like it.

  6. The program is on tonight here in the U.S. And, immediately following Ugly Betty we get to watch Grey's Anatomy. Tonight is a good night for TV. :lol:

  7. Made from scratch! here is the recipe! Here it is :-)

     

    Serve these pancakes with butter and syrup OR BOTH!

     

    INGREDIENTS:

    2 cups all-purpose flour, stirred or sifted before measuring

    2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 egg, slightly beaten

    1 1/2 cups milk

    2 tablespoons melted butter

     

    PREPARATION:

    Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture, stirring only until smooth. Blend in melted butter. Cook on a hot, greased griddle, using about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake. Cook until brown on one side and around edge; turn and brown the other side. Recipe for pancakes serves 4.

    As a variation of your recipe try it using 13/4 cups all purpose flour and 1/4 cup of cornmeal. BTW, I hope that your maple syrup was "pure" maple syrup, nothing better on pancakes.

     

    Another variation, try using Vanilla Soy Milk instead of regular milk sometime. My OH loves them that way and, actually, so do I. :)

    I have finished reading both Jesus Out To Sea and Tin Roof Blowdown. My expectations were high for both books and I was not dissapointed, excellent reading. My only problem was with Tin Roof Blowdown, I was furious with what happened in N.O. during hurricane Katrina and the lack of response by our Government. After reading Tin Roof I was even more upset. Thank you JLB for giving us great writing.

     

    Jesus Out To Sea was also great reading. I thoroughly enjoyed all the stories and especially the Johnny Ace one. I could relate very well to it and one of my favorite songs is still, to this day, Pledging My Love.

    Thanks, Muggle and Panjandrum for the kind words. "Johnny Ace" is one of my favorite stories in the collection as well. I hope one day to see it adapted for the screen.

  9. James Lee Burke has written 16 books with Dave Robicheaux as the main character. The books keep getting better and better. The stories take place in Southern Louisiana (New Iberia and New Orleans). Robicheaux is a very complex guy and the stories are hard hitting. I enjoy his writing as much as any living writer.

     

    My point is this is one series that not only has not lost its lustre, but has got better.

  10. Lately I tasted a lovely white wine from Chile I believe (I prefer red - but loved this one) called something Santa Rita. Unfortunately drank too much to remember the exact name!(we were at a farewell of a collegue) Tried looking for it at a couple of shops - no luck yet! Any one has an idea what I'm talking about?

    Santa Rita makes a number of white wines in addition to their reds whcih are pretty good. Any idea on which type it was.... :lol:.....a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, or some other white varietal.
