  1. It is definitely best without milk.
  2. Telling it to someone who really cares is the greatest healer, but if society is more aware of the problems people face, then it can only be a good thing, I hope.
  3. Yes, I drank this a lot when in Africa. It is a German drink, but as namibia is a German colony, they drink it a lot. I loved it. I keep meaning to buy some when I go shopping. I'm going to write it on my shopping list now for this week.
  4. What I would like to know is why are there so many of these identikit life-story books? Why now? Do people in the society we are living in feel compelled to to tell everybody about things that have happened to them? It only speaks of the failures of our society to meet people's needs to me. Don't get me wrong. I loved the Pelzer books when I read them years ago, but seeing all of those white, depressing covers in the shops, one has to ask what is going on.
  5. Me too! Love Clarkson. I was supposed to be reading though. Missed out on valuable reading time. After TG I was ironing while watching Long Way Round.
  6. Sunday roast:D
  7. I don't know anything about this book, but it looks interesting. Did you know that the reason the Star Wars movies were made out of order is because George Lucas didn't want to make movies one two and three (Anakin Skywalker growing up, getting married, and Luke and Laia being born, then becoming Darth Vader) until the special effects industry was advanced enough for them, which is why he made four five and six first?
  8. Give it a go Kate. There are different ones to suit your tastes. Take a look on the proms sections of the BBC website to see what is on offer. My band is doing a prom in the park next week. Last year we did it in September as a last night of the proms thing, playing all the good stuff. We are still doing the sea songs, fanfares and pomp and circumstance etc but since we got rained off last year (we were on a bandstand but the weather was so bad we were still getting wet), it has been brought forward. I have loads of new and difficult music to practise in time.
  9. Sounds like an interesting book Kate. I am actually a member of a forum like this one for real. I go there whenever I need advice, or need to check I know what I am doing, because the best people to ask about children are other parents. You can learn from what others have tried and tested (mixed with your own parental wisdom of course). The people on that site always talk about their problems, and I am careful about getting to involved, but it is an excellant place for advice, and a chat when you feel like some adult company.
  10. When we grow up do our tastes in books change? Does a love of books grow wider and deeper as the reader grows older? Do our childhood loves/hates stay with us? At the moment I seem to have a strong pull towards reading books based on real experiences, or with real places, or towards non-fiction books. Before joinng this forum I would read allsorts, but definitely was more a lover of fantasy than anything else. I had been ever since I learned to read. I still love fantasy. I'm currently reading Eragon and want to read more Tolkien. I can't wait for the next Harry Potter film either, but I am not sure my love for fantasy is the same now. Maybe I just need something different in that genre. I still believe in fairies after all, so my love is obviously still there. Maybe it is just growing into something new, or maybe not. Maybe I am just going through a personal crises. Writing this, I am now thinking i do still love Tolkien and Harry Potter. Time to stop ranting and hand the thread over to you guys I think. So does our love of books grow up with us, and how? Am I making sense?
  11. I hope this book gives you what you need Nici.
  12. Who will be watching the Proms? I caught some of the first night last night. I am not sure how much I will get to watch with having the girls, but I always love it.
  13. Yes that is my problem at the moment. I have just started thinking of some really good ideas and written some out as part of a text, but then I've been distracted by the children's and OHs needs and been forced just to note my other ideas until I can take time to think about them (although I have lots of other things to do too:roll:).
  14. Chilli tonight. Yum. I just had another portion after putting the girls to bed. Millie has eaten rather a lot today and I was hungry. Plenty left for tomorrow too.
  15. Hi Elizabeth. Do you have special places you go to that inspire you?
  16. Putting them outside with a sign is a good idea. You may be surprised, and wil probably at least get rid of a lot of them. Otherwise, the school/village fete thing is a good idea. These types of things love having bookstalls.
  17. Great review. It sounds like a good book.
  18. OH bought me a National Geographic subscription and I am loving it. I also have one to Christianity which I have had for about five years, but I didn't get my subscription renewal reminder this year, so I have missed about four copies. I must get it renewed. Other than those, I don't read them. I can't stand the ones with celebrity gossip and other rubbish. It doesn't interest me at all.
  19. Hi. I am having a good, and restful day after a busy weekend thank you. How are you?

  20. After You'd Gone is an amazing book. It is emotional and thoughtful. I'm reading Eragon at the moment from the library, and also In Search of Adam, but I want to read that one on my own, so it may take a while.
  21. It sounds like my mother in law would like them, but she is very into feminism and may have read them already. I shall have to ask her. I had gathered that from H&D's post. I may give one a go at some point. I am willing to bet that my mother in law has one.
  22. No I don't have one. I've never actually used one. I just leave it simmering for a couple of hours. I made a big pan, so plenty left for tomorrow, and even had a second portion before band. Lemon sole is good.
  23. I've havea casserole cooking.
  24. I just noticed on BBC Breakfast news that Fay Weldon's book Puffball has been made into a film. It looked an interesting book from bits that they showed, so I was wondering what other people thought of her books. I know H&D said she has read some of them. Are they as interesting as they sound? What genre do they fit into?
