  1. Does anyone have any experience of portable DVD players? I bought Amy a fairly cheap one, but when I tried it, the background noise from the DVD going round was rather distracting. I've also been looking at the larger screen ones. So if anyone has any recommendations, I'd be grateful.
  2. I went to check it out again on Amazon, and somehow clicked on 'buy'. I might have to take a look first without Amy watching.
  3. I really want to watch some of these, but I'm not sure whether to try the YouTube versions, or buy the boxset. As someone who is loving the classic Doctor Who, these seem appealing. If I go for DVD though, my 9 year old will want to watch me - do you think she'd find them scary?
  4. I've seen a picture of the giant rat, and that has put me off somewhat - but I do have it on my ipad to watch.
  5. Can I please ask you to use this thread http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/8236-has-anyone-read/ for these types of queries. Thanks.
  6. I've edited your title. I also enjoyed Prometheus. Sure there were some criticisms, but that's true of a lot of sic-if films.
  7. Just finished a fun little Doctor Who audio called Devil in the Smoke. It actually doesn't have the Doctor in it, but is a story about Madam Vastra, Jenny and Strax. It's read by Dan Starkey (who plays Strax) and he's very good. It could easily be a televised episode, and the humour (mainly from Strax) was just right.
  8. I see they're getting mixed reviews on amazon, I look forward to seeing what you think of yours.
  9. They're 2 different sets, the one I listed are versions which have been rereleased, yours are new stories. I didn't realise they had started releasing them.
  10. Domain is one of the books I remember well from my teen years.
  11. If you look her up on Amazon, it mentions lots of genres, but not YA.
  12. Ooh yea - that's hard to keep up with! For goodness sake don't buy them all frankie!
  13. Kell, I read Warm Bodies not long ago, then saw part of the film the other night because I bought it for Beth. I think you'll enjoy the book, for me the humour in it was even better. (I was also annoyed by some of the changes in the film, let me know what you think!)
  14. They're about to have another 25 hour sale - if you want to take a look, can I please ask you to click on the banner at the top to take you there - if you go on to buy, the forum receives a small percentage, and it all helps.
  15. Can I draw your attention to the following from our guidelines.. It's also helpful if we know a little more about why you're asking - have you read them, and would like to discuss them, or are you looking to find out if they're any good because you're considering them. Also, I'm going to move this to a different section, as I wouldn't class her as Children's / YA.
  16. Dumb brunette? lol, yep, that'll be me too! In conversation I'm not too bad, but I can't put my thoughts across if feeling stressed, such as a debate or argument. It's writing things down which is worse for me - I rarely feel I'm written what was in my head!
  17. I finished book 5 of The Dark Tower, and struggled with the beginning of 6 - is it worth me persevering or giving up, going by the above comments?
  18. Then I'd definitely read it - it's good to see what happened to him.
  19. It certainly is, and it's an interesting but easy read. Do you watch the show?
  20. I finally managed to get back to Rise of the Governor (Walking Dead), which I really enjoyed. If you watch the series, it's a great back story, but even if you don't, it's a good zombie survival story. I certainly didn't see the 'twist'!
  21. I started World War Z, and didn't get very far. I don't think I'll bother now, as I'm also much more interested in human stories.
  22. I've not had testing done, but I often feel like this. When I'm writing a review, or even trying to express myself in a discussion, I find it difficult to put into words what's going on in my head. Sometimes I'm really looking forward to writing a review, and then get frustrated when I can't put it across well. It's just one of the reasons why I've given it up.
