  1. Tim, I understood that there had been a long term war with the Cybermen, but they were pretty much unbeatable because they had learnt to constantly upgrade themselves. Someone had caused a massive explosion, causing the black hole, killing the Cybermen. The cyberman shell and the cybermats (the little insects) had stayed around, waiting for a new child's brain to restart the cyberplanner - instead of the children though, he decided the Doctor's was much better! Sorry, probably as clear as mud - I know what I mean!
  2. I've watched a Dalek story with the 5th, and he's very laid back. The Awakening looks quite good, do let me know what you think, and I may add it to my list. (And if the Grand Prix proves a boring one, I may watch it myself )
  3. Earthshock has been recommended a few times, but I'm probably leaving it for a while, on Raven's advice. Apparently something important happens, and it's worth watching some others before. The Caves of Androzani has brought out mixed views from fans. Robots of Death is in my long Tom Baker list. I've said for a long time that I wanted to watch a few old episodes, to get an idea of the older Doctors, but as soon as I started researching it, I realised there were lots I wanted to see. If I had the time and money, I'd simply start at the beginning and work my way through, but I've had to go with a) recommendations b) important characters or stories and c) a story which looks interesting. Claire, I've managed to watch Pertwee without seeing Worzel, but I also won't be watching many of his, as many are earth-bound, which doesn't interest me so much. I'm not sure where to go next - I have a few DVDs waiting, but if the TV is being used by everyone else, I need to find something on You Tube or Netflix.
  4. Yep, I agree. It does make me more curious though. There's also a cool trailer on the BBC DW website, which seems to back up the biggest theory / spoiler going around. If Moffat has done it well, it should be brill!
  5. Sets and effects I expect to be 'bad', and I enjoyed it more once they were on Metebelis III. The part I found more difficult was earlier on, with the earthbound stuff. Lupton didn't work as a baddie, and driving and flying around in hover cars etc just looked silly. I understand most of Pertwee's era was based on Earth, so I don't think it'll be for me.
  6. I imagine that if I'd seen it at the time, it would have terrified me too - the fact that it now looks so dated reduces the scare factor for me.
  7. Well, I really enjoyed Nightmare in Silver - there were a few things which annoyed me, but overall it was pretty good. Opinion seems to be very divided though. There's a little prequel to next week's on YouTube which has got me even more interested -
  8. Ah.. well that wouldn't be too bad then, they just have to wait! For me, it's pretty perfect - I want to see each Doctor's regeneration, and some of the titles are on my existing list, so to have them accompanied by a nice book is ideal. I've been watching Planet of the Spiders already, mind you, and am finding it too dated, it's quite laughable really.
  9. According the amazon 'reviews', many fans are upset - apparently there's one in there which is a new release, but it won't be released on it's own.
  10. This http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-Regeneration-William-Hartnell/dp/B00BWU1ESO/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp is coming out in June, and I think it'll be a must-buy. It covers some of the stories on my list, and the accompanying book should be interesting. Disc 1: The Tenth Planet / The War Games (Parts 1-5) | Final episode of William Hartnell Disc 2: The War Games (Parts 6-10) | Final episode of Patrick Troughton Disc 3: Planet of the Spiders | Final episode of Jon Pertwee Disc 4: Logopolis / The Caves of Androzani | Final episodes of Tom Baker and Peter Davison Disc 5: Time and the Rani / The Movie | First and Final episodes of Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann Disc 6: Bad Wolf - The Parting of the Ways / The End of Time | Final episodes of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant
  11. Claire, we've been to North Devon twice before, and are going back this summer. We're going to be in a little cottage near Ilfracombe, where did you go?
  12. Sounds good - I loved Genesis of the Daleks, and have a few more from that era (70's Tom Baker) to now watch.
  13. I've started listening to Wool.. Part 1 was really good, would have worked well as a short story. Part 2 is ok so far, will let you know how I get on.
  14. Hmm.. I suppose it depends on the reader, as it does concern the last few humans alive. They do fight back though!
  15. I've added one or two - I've been convinced to add The Curse of Fenric, plus a few others. However, if I don't particularly enjoy a Doctor or companion, their further adventures may disappear from my list! I've almost done with Genesis of the Daleks, and am really enjoying it - I definitely prefer this era to the 80's era of Revelation of the Daleks, so will probably watch quite a few of these.
  16. Let me know what you think if you do. I have a thread at Gallifrey Base (big Who forum) where I'll post more details.
  17. I think the war setting put me off, whilst the Greatest Show looked like it could be creepy! I'm hoping to start off with one or two for each Doctor - my list for each will then increase or decrease depending on how much I enjoy them. I've already noticed I seem to be attracted towards the Fourth - I'm going to start with the 1st few, then see where I go from there.
  18. My list which I will be editing over time, including important points.... I now have a good idea as to which are available on itunes, what's on DVD, what I've already bought etc Edited: List moved to 1st post
  19. Thanks again Raven. I started a thread over at Gallifrey Base, to keep a record of what I'd bought, watched, my thoughts etc. It now appears that I can't edit a post after a couple of hours, so I can't update my list. So, I'm going to add it here, so I can keep track. I won't post much more in here though, as it doesn't seem to be generating much interest - apart from Raven. So, next post will be my list, so I can keep coming back and updating it.
  20. Would you recommend those two?
  21. Netflix has confused me - I thought I was going in order, but it appears not! I'm watching Resurrection of the Daleks ('84), then will go back to Genesis of The Daleks ('75). I love the way this is very 80's, and very 'spacy', with laser fights in starship corridors etc. Davros is brill, much more excitable than in the newer series. Peter Davison seems to be a rather calm Doctor. It's also quite amusing to see Leslie Grantham!
  22. Three of the big Dalek stories have been added to Netflix, so that will help with costs - I started Resurrection of the Daleks last night.
  23. If you mean 'illegally', that's not something we promote on here!
  24. I'll probably pop into this thread and report on what I watch. I'm also hoping a few others have seen some and will join in. We've just been watching some of the first Dalek story, and I couldn't help noticing how chatty they were! Its also interesting that they haven't actually changed that much from the basic design. I also think The Doctor is rather frail - he gets out of breath easily and is most affected by the radiation. It's no wonder he got younger with each regeneration!
  25. Thanks to Raven, I've now added: Dalek Invasion of Earth The Invasion Inferno Planet of The Spiders The Ark in Space The Hand of Fear The Deadly Assassin The Keeper of Traken / Logopolis / Casttrovalva Resurection of the Daleks Vengeance on Varos The Mark of Rani Remembrance of the Daleks Ghost Light These are all on an Amazon wish-list, which means I can buy one or two when I feel like it. I think I'll be inclined to buy them as they appeal to me, rather than in order - are there any which HAVE to be in a certain order?
