  2. You'll find that every forum has it's own approach to certain issues, so the best thing to do is to take a read of the rules and guidelines before posting. Ours can be found here, and includes the followng: Personally, I think your best approach would be to enter or start a discussion about your chosen book, and gather your topic or questions from there. As has been said above, no one really wants to do your homework for you!
  3. Maggie, I have a final query for you from me - what sort of reader are you? What authors and genres do you yourself like to read, and do you have to avoid reading whilst you're writing, in case you're influenced by them?
  4. Stuart was a Featured Author some time back, if you haven't spotted it.
  5. Was it in your prize bundle Chrissy? I'm so glad you liked it.
  6. I'm now reading Through A Glass, Darkly, and I think it's brilliant so far. I read the scene with the scarecrow and the bridge last night, and I was actually a bit scared to turn out the light!
  7. I find it very hard to review books of short stories, so I don't do them justice.. but Love Begins in Winter was a great read, with a very poetic feel to it. I would recommend it. If you like that type of short story collection, I would also recommend Sarah Salway's Leading The Dance.
  8. I'm pleased to report that Beth is enjoying The Fire Within.. it's great to see her enjoying some longer books. She even reads in bed every night. As for me, I moved on to Icefire, which is moving deeper into the realms of fantasy. However, I've had to put it aside for a few review books which I need to get to. From Amazon's Vine program, I requested Underwater by Elizabeth Diamond, which I'm now starting to get into, and I'm sure I will enjoy. For Beautiful Books, I'm reading The Baby by James Briggs, which is very honest and funny; plus Through A Glass, Darkly by Bill Hussey, which is fantastic so far! I would like to add here that the people at Beautiful Books have been lovely, and they have provided us with some interesting review books. They have a varied selection, and are worth checking out. http://beautiful-books.co.uk/

  10. I think he'll definitely stay for a while! :D

  11. If you start a new thread about a book, we do ask that you provide a little more information about it, rather than simply asking if anyone has read it.
  12. Well, soon after I started this poll, I decided I should take a look.. I read just over 11 chapters, and have happily put it down again, to move onto other things. Maybe I have to read more, but at this point, I still don't get the interest or the obsession. Sorry!
  13. You have already been asked not to post this. I'm putting you on moderation - please read the RULES.

  15. I really enjoyed the Odd Thomas series, although the first remains my favourite.. I didn't realise there was a fourth book.

    Hello

I've moved your post for you, as it's best to have your own thread rather than using someone else's. Welcome..
  17. The Book of Lost Things has had some very good reviews from people on here - in fact, I don't think I've heard a bad one.
  18. We recently picked up The Fire Within for Beth, but before she had a chance to pick it up, I decided I wanted to try it. It's aimed at Beth's age, so I'm hoping she will enjoy it, but there was plenty in there to keep me hooked as well. Part of the story, about rescuing a squirrel, is definitely aimed at children, and it's very innocent and charming. However, the pull of the book is with the clay dragons.. do they really come to life, and what's the story behind them? It was that which caught my 'inner child'! I've now given the book back to Beth, and am reading the second in the series. There is a change of tone to this one, and I think it's 'growing up' a little. I've actually been in touch with Chris, who is just lovely, and he did say that they become more challenging and grittier. He's now writing a series of books aimed at slightly younger children, all about the various dragons.. the covers look very sweet! http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/d/chris-dlacey/gruffen.htm Has anyone else read these, or any of his other books?
  19. In all honesty.. a little slow, and a little annoying - but then I've only read a few chapters. :)

  20. Well you made me happy for a few seconds, anyhow...
  21. Hey, I'm doing it to give an opinion on the book.. don't expect me to turn into a silly teen fangirl like others on here..
  22. Blog post on the cornflake..
  23. This thread is wandering way off the books again....
  24. Now there's a whole new area for the world of fanfic to explore!
  25. That's because you're like me.. you'd be more than happy with any version!
