  1. However, the lottery is completely random.. and if it is a pattern, surely other people could have cracked it by now? Considering what he does, I think it's something to do with the 'prediction' only being shown after the result.
  2. It's just trying to work out how he did the illusion! If you watch it though, he's a very good showman.. and it's gotten him lots of attention!
  3. I'm wondering about A Clockwork Orange, but I'm also thinking that it was banned?
  4. Firstly, I'm surprised no one is discussing the lottery 'prediction' from last night. I didn't see it, but I've just been watching it online. The key, I think, is that he couldn't show us before the draw. His legal comment didn't make sense.. he wasn't showing the results, just predicting them. So, any ideas as to the details? And do you think he'll really tell all on Friday? Moving on from that, what else has he done, and does he often offer explanations?
  5. I blogged about this once, on the Picador Blog.. http://www.panmacmillan.com/Picador/ManageBlog.aspx?Author=Michelle%20Moore
  6. Happy Birthday!! :D

  7. Nope, it's one that has been used here a few times before!
  8. I forgot to add my own review: Until recently, my only experience of the short story format was within the horror genre, with authors such as Stephen King. I’m glad to say, however, that thanks to fantastic writers such as Sarah Salway and Patrick Chapman, this has now changed. Simon van Booy is an author to now add to this list. This was my first experience of his writing, but I shall certainly be searching out more. To me, there is a real art to sucessfully writing this format. It lacks the luxery of time, to develop both characters and storyline. Obviously short stories within the horror section are plot driven, but once you move into general fiction, there is scope for both. The five stories within this book do have storylines, but the emphasis is on the characters. Within very few words, Simon throws you straight into the character’s personalities, making you feel that you know and understand them. The writing has a wonderful poetic feel to it – the stories all make for fairly quick reading, but they would definitely benefit from a slower re-read. There is an impression that there is more waiting to be discovered the second time round.
  9. Beth is getting near the end of The Fire Within, and she appears to be very much enjoying it. Amy certainly likes books, but she's only just starting to read.
  10. You may have seen on facebook Roxi, but Bill has now headed into children's books.. http://www.booktrade.info/index.php/showarticle/22941. It sounds great!
  11. The Baby and Through A Glass, Darkly were both excellent reads, and have been reviewed (not very well though) on the reviews blog. I've also finally finished my audiobook of Salem's Lot, which has been perfect to listen to at night! Classic early King, very enjoyable.
  12. Hi Maggie - I think it's nearly time to close your thread. However, I did ask you a question a few weeks ago, so I'm wondering if you've seen it?

  13. Hi Roxi.. I don't think I'll be much help with this one. Not only because it could be all sorts of things, but also because I get the same sort of symptoms, and I'm not sure what's wrong with myself!

By wooziness, do you mean feeling light headed? That could be low blood pressure. Does it happen when you stand up too quick at all? Tiredness, as I'm sure you know, can be all sorts of things, including anaemia, depression, low thyroid etc. As for your eyes, are you getting headaches, or just sore eyes? Have you had a recent eye test?

I'm afraid the doc is the best answer, and he'll probably start with various blood tests.

Hope you feel better soon! xx

  14. I'm pretty sure there are already lots of opinions on this earlier in the thread.
  15. I'm sure we've had this sort of discussion not too long ago...
  16. Welcome to the forum. Considering this is a book forum, it would be nice to know a little more about your reading habits.. who are some of your favourite books and authors, and what are you reading at the moment? It's a bit concerning that you talk elsewhere about selling your books.. are you no longer interested, or are you making room for new ones?
  17. Why ever not?
  18. So you're now going to desert the forum?
  19. Can I please ask that arrangements to share books etc are kept to PM, as it rather distracts from the thread. Thank you. I'm actually listening to Salem's Lot at the moment.. it seemed a bit slow to start with, but in fact that just helped to build up the tension - and now it's getting rather scary!
  20. Thank you - it's been a nice long weekend, on the whole. :)

  21. Can I politely ask you to not use the forum to promote your own blog. Thanks.

  23. I tried Chrome a while ago, but I had some additions to gmail which wouldn't work in it. Now I'm no longer using those additions, I suddenly realised last night I could go back and try Chrome again. It seemed to fire up quicker this morning, so that was good.
