  1. Sunday was the best day, rained a bit yesterday morning but then was dull most of the time, today started off sunny but then got dull, and it's meant to get colder again!
  2. I don't have much luck with seeds either Athena, I have a few growing at the moment but not sure how far they'll get! Good luck with yours. I've bought some proper plants as a back-up, although it's still too cold to plant them outside. Congrats on your graduation, Virginia, and meeting up with your friend after all this time. I went away for the holiday weekend, to Norfolk for a few days, it was nice but short breaks aren't really a holiday, I find I'm just starting to get into the holiday, just when it's time to come home again! But it was nice to have a few days by the sea and in the countryside, away from London.
  3. I enjoyed The Team too, I'm also watching The Legacy but don't think this series is as good as the others. Loved the last Line of Duty!
  4. Quite a way into this now, for some reason serpents and sea monsters have figured in my dreams since I started it! Enjoying it though.
  5. Just finished "A trail through Time", the 4th in the Chronicles of St Mary's series, and whilst I enjoyed it, I did find the constant going along the timeline a bit confusing, and the return of a former enemy wasn't that convincing ( and a bit like going backwards to me, that storyline had been dealt with, and resurrecting it just feels a bit lazy) - however apart from that it was another enjoyable adventure with some very funny episodes; suffice to say that I will never look at the Empress Matilda's escape through the snow in Wallingford (Oxfordshire) in quite the same way again, thanks to the St Mary's re-enactment, which as usual goes horribly and hilariously wrong. 7.5/10
  6. Just managed to avoid a downpour, got to Waterstone's just in time. Luckily it had stopped on the way back. No hail yet.....
  7. It's the 80s all over again!
  8. I haven't read/heard one bad review of it yet. I got it in the supermarket for £2.99, and it will be my next read, when I finish the Jodi Taylor, which will probably be tonight.
  9. He was a very good age, I don't know much about goats and how long they live ,but if the vet was surprised then he obviously had a good long life and was well looked after. I hope your other goat is Ok. There were some baby goats on a vet's programme last night and they were adorable, like puppies with great long ears!
  10. Same here Athena, bitterly cold winds and we've got hail forecast, and the more northern parts of the UK are still having some snow.
  11. It's lovely and sunny but such a cold wind, it's bitter!
  12. Funnily enough I don't miss Broadchurch that much, watched the last Big Little Lies last night though and that I will miss....those houses! I want one, don't mind which one it is.
  13. It must have been a shock though Athena, but as Pixie says, it sounds like he had a lovely life with you.
  14. I once got a book at a school fete which had the last few pages missing! Always check all the pages are there before you buy..... I have occasionally received a used book which was described as being in good (or better) condition, but has been in a mess eg stains on the cover (I didn't want to touch it, although I assume/hope it was tea or coffee!), I got in touch with the seller and they refunded immediately and said they didn't want it back (not surprised, I doubt they'd be able to sell it again in that condition), it was only about £3 but even so it was described as being in good condition but wasn't. this happened twice with the same seller, so naturally I don't use them any more!
  15. I like goats, they seem to have great characters.
  16. We had a mixed weekend - dull on Saturday, with a bit of drizzle and rain, then started very dull yesterday, but got better and was quite warm later in the afternoon. Dull again now and meant to get quite cold.
  17. I think it's Labour Day in the US, and in the UK it's just called the May Bank Holiday, not sure why, but who cares, it's a free day off work!
  18. Ugh gross, I've bought an occasional book from an Oxfam shop near work, and they're always in perfect condition, including a brand new hardback for £4.00! None of the books I bought look like they've even been read.
  19. Me too, even with second hand books I check them first - a bit of foxing on the pages is only to be expected, and perhaps a slight crease to the spine to show it's been read, but anything else is a no go.
  20. Finally got "The Essex Serpent". Also "Miraculous Mysteries", a short story collection.
