  1. I think it's just on the Kindle Fire that you can read horizontally. I plan to spend most of the day reading it (Vertically ).
  2. As if free samples aren't good enough! Hopefully they won't start charging for that too! Oops- they could be lurking.
  3. Ya, I had already read 2 of her books when he told me about Don't Let Me Go being even BETTER than the previous two. I really want to read more of her stuff. Yes, you would love Dead Poets Society- it's the story of an English teacher who inspires his students through his teaching of poetry (Robin Williams in a straight role). (1989)
  4. They are much more pricey here, maybe I can find a deal. Anyway, downloaded the sample for Tomorrow, When the War Began, sounds good Actually, they all sound good! Maybe with all this library talk, I should try out my local one!
  5. I'm not so sure I could pay that much. The Amazon library was what leered me to Prime, but I didn't need all that it offered- like, I don't need 2 day shipping and it's too expensive for what I want/ need. They sell the library program though for only $9.99 a month to make it seem cheaper- and they do take out $9.99 every month, so you don't have to spend $120 right off. Plus, I like buying my books, I love all my Kindle books. My library has a big selection (so does my dad for the lending program), it goes through the whole county, not just my local library. Still, I'm a HUGE Amazon fan and this sounds cool, I could save some money with it at 9.99 a month, as right now, I read 5-6 books a month, maybe one or two more! But then, if they are good, I'd want them in my Kindle library. So, I dunno
  6. Neither is the "Gift" option always available- and not on new releases. I've missed out on some books from my dad because of that- grrrr. At least this program is free! I just couldn't justify Prime or their Audiobook package. I can't WAIT to get into my dad's collection! Muggle- I hope your wife likes Don't Let Me Go (Hard not too!). On here, I think Poppy is reading it. Did you like The Book Thief? So great you both don't have to buy the same book or switch Kindles!
  7. Welcome! Yes, definitely check out Septembers reading circle nominations, Wolf Hall is one of the sugestions. Have you read any Alison Weir?
  8. Found out that reading vertically instead of horizontally on my Kindle, goes much faster. Breezing through The Fountainhead now. It is no longer killing me. I think I will be done in 2-3 days.
  9. A Time to Kill sounds more interesting, I think I will put that and maybe Sycamore Row (depending on what you think) on my short list. My dad will be happy too
  10. Just noticed you are reading Don't Let Me Go by Catherine Ryan Hyde- hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I don't know much poetry, mostly lines from plays. Mostly Shakespeare's. Have you seen Dead Poets Society?
  11. I sometimes can fit part of the Walrus and The Carpenter in my conversations. "The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax-- Of cabbages--and kings-- And why the sea is boiling hot-- And whether pigs have wings." And I love (which I know 90% of): If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber'd here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme, No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: If you pardon, we will mend: And, as I am an honest Puck, (This part I forget) If we have unearned luck Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue, (Then I get it here lol) We will make amends ere long; Else the Puck a liar call; So, good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends.
  12. Ya the majority of games I'd play would be in 2D. I can see what you mean, about the 3d-ness being a bit much- I had a demo practice of Yoshi's New Island and it was waaaay on the 3d side. I like the idea of having the slider for the effects. Thanks for the input on the DS Lite, too, because I considered that one as well. I just played that 3DS XL demo and fell in love I was hoping this would make me less tired Lately reading, music and TV have been a struggle. Ho, hum... see what I mean?
  13. Those are so cute! Do you ever link them and play? Are you happy with them (sounds like it!)?

    Book News!

I don't have a problem with pen names- heck, Joe Hill is one of my favorite writers and it's a pen name. You just have to read Lee Child to understand, I guess. In the excerpts of the interview I posted with him, he basically states he knows nothing of the details he puts in his books, that he makes them all up because they sound good. If you read Child, you know why I feel he is a fraud. Right now, I know more about Robert Galbraith than I do this "new" Lee Child I've discovered. And I do Admire Rowling for doing something way different, she had to have a pen name to do it.
  15. I know what you mean about the Kindle! I'm glad you finished- glad you liked it. It really is on my TBR list now. Also, you must tell me what you think of Sycamore Row! My dad even bought it for me he wants me to read it so bad. I might want to read A Time to Kill first though. I dunno, the premise of Sycamore is way off my beaten trail- I don't read much "courtroom drama".
  16. I'm thinking in indulging in the Nintendo DS XL. http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-XL-Black/dp/B00E1A1SP6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406012949&sr=1-1&keywords=nintendo+3ds+xl I also like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-XL-Yoshi-Edition/dp/B00IIFTY7E/ref=pd_rhf_cr_s_t_3 Not sure when I can afford it though and I know my daughter will want to play it too!. I know you can get the old Mario's on wii. They are cheap for the 3DS XL. I remember playing Zelda as a kid too!
  17. This book is killllllling me! I can't believe Fountainhead came before Atlas Shrugged. I don't think I can give it up though. I'm tempted to just post my review at 50% (which, btw, is log enough as it is), but darn, I just can't give up!?
  18. That is just beautiful!
  19. Gosh- that's awesome! And a great partnership, it sounds like you are well matched! I would love to have a partner that read. Even my friends, don't really read. One has a toddler, one is a doctor and one has MS. So that's why I love this site so much- I don't have anyone to talk to about books and what I read! My mom just doesn't have time. My dad and I discuss books a lot- he reads like you do! I really wish I had the patience and not be so manic, as to read to my 5 year old more. Would he like a true story of a WW2 airman? I SO recommended Unbroken by Laura Hildenbrand, he might have even read it already! What gaming system does he use or just the computer? I am wondering because I might by a Nintendo I love all the old (and new) Mario games (but I'm sure he doesn't play those lol Do you remember them or were they around in Netherlands?)
  20. Ahhhhhhh! I'm nearly (finally) at 50% of The Fountainhead. It's good, but I keep being able to put it down and come back to it, so not exactly a page turner. I like it and everything, even studding it as practice for school, but it feels like it's taking for- ever! And it's only 730 pages! It should only have taken me 7 days and maybe a day or two more with all the philosophy in it, but I think it's been 7 days (or more) already. I WILL finished before the month is over though and then, it's probably going to be 12 Years a Slave followed by Ken Follett's World Without End. Try out Catherine Ryan Hyde My goal is to share Don't Let Me Go with as many people as possible
  21. Will you still live in SC? It is so beautiful in SC. You are SO good to your family, Virginia. I'm glad you had a good vacation, and finally, that appreciative good cup of coffee.
  22. Thanks girls for all that info. I'd sure like to read it on my Kindle!
  23. I always get John Green's Looking For Alaska and Lauren Oliver's Delirium as recommended for me, so if you get to them before me, let us know how they both are. I also see 1984 on there- you haven't read that already? And you simply MUST get to The 100 Year Old Man... It was my favorite book of the year before I read Don't Let Me Go by Catherine Ryan Hyde. That is a lot of books! Are those the ones for your old bedroom? How on Earth did you get all those home?
  24. Who needs a bed? There is always the sofa...
