  1. I usually change it with the book I'm reading.
  2. The book is really humorous in that way.
  3. I did some reading on Personality Cults a few years ago and was studying that part of Mao when I ran across "The Gang of Four", consisting of Mao's wife. So here is some more about her: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiang_Qing
  4. Both Divergent by Veronica Roth and Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson are good. Divergent is more geared toward girls and Steelheart to guys, I loved them both. Both are Dystopian and Steelheart is SF.
  5. Kindle often recommends Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns for me, so I looked them up- sound good. I downloaded the Kindle Sample. Thanks!

And there are only so many "oh thank you honey"'s before you tire, as everyone ends up getting about 10.
  7. That's crazy! Looking back, ALL of my English teachers, with the exception of two, were male. Now that I really think about it, most of my teachers Middle School through High School were men!
  8. We went out for Mexican. Shredded chicken taco's, tortilla's, enchilada's and Corona's!

Oh ya, my daughter and her 10 year old fried love them! The 10 year old makes them herself, even doing a rainbow for my daughter (my daughters favorite color is "rainbow" )
  10. I'd love to meet up! How fun! This time, a friend will travel with me. Oddly enough, we are best friends- mirror images- met online. And don't worry if you can only stay for an hour or back out at the last moment- we both have "issues" and understand If you get into a car accident, well, you have a huge bill waiting for you. It completely ruins some people. When I had my baby, we stayed 3 days in the hospital, that was $32,000.
  11. Athena; Well, people that can't afford it just don't get their medications. My mom hasn't had her Heart or blood pressure meds for two months! Minimum wage here is a joke too. $9.00 an hour in California and the highest is in Seattle and there it is $15, barley enough to get by, certainly not enough for healthcare. Heathcare used to not be mandatory, but under "Obama care" now you do. And that is the catch. As Julie says, the program only cuts down the price by 1/2. I love the Netherlands, please let me stay with you Actually, I am planning my 5th trip in 5 years to Amsterdam next year, maybe May or August. I don't want to be there on Queens Day!!!! I'm going to try some Jodi Picoult myself sometime this year. I am starting with The Pact, but The Storyteller looks good too. PS- I had this all quoted and pretty but then I pushed something on my computer and it erased your quote! Not at all- jump right in. I'm on disability, so I am under Medicare. They do absorb the cost, but only a small percentage. Like, I had a $3000 Ambulance bill (they took me 5 miles) I still had to pay $2000 of it. My meds, thankfully are cheap. They won't even cover something as basic as a pap test or childhood immunizations. I should add that I don't ever go to the doctor and the one I do have (not a general doctor) I have to pay $125 out of pocket because she just simply will not deal with insurance, it's such a mess.
  12. Aw! I didn't think it depressing, mostly because everyone got out. BUT I do agree with all the Communism comments- I've read about Mao and that period before, but never have I come across such detail of that lifestyle. Did you know she also wrote a biography on Mao? I want to read it, it's only 800 pages
  13. Hey! There you are! I'm going to check out your review.
  14. At the time, Republicans were going on and on about 'Socialized Healthcare" and putting down European healthcare- so I think that's what the PM meant. Once baby boomers start to get sick, what a mess that will be. Sorry Athena!
  15. Thanks- I like yours too! Although we read completely different books, I like to read your impressions.
  16. Good to know- and they are all available on Kindle I loved those old National Geographic's, with the fold out maps- remember? They don't do that anymore.
  17. Obama met with the Japanese Prime Minister last year or the year before at a G8 Summit. The Japanese PM asked Obama "You want to give them free healthcare and they call you Hitler?" It's so messed up over here!
  18. I won't give up, but I just bought World Without End by Ken Follett. It's 1000 pages, should hold me over til payday (and then some!) Probably finish on the 6th or close- I think 13 Reasons Why will be my July read- a- thon book- which will slow me down a bit.
  19. Anyone read The London Review of Books?
  20. Oh wow- I will check them out today! Right now, I LOVE BBC Magazines' book reviews.
  21. Sorry, had to edit for the part that is the sadness of our Healthcare
  22. I take a lot of medications for my head, so I totally understand. I'm working my way through a new one right now, the doses are so hard to figure out and which combination. It's taken me 10 years of seeing doctors, but I think I am as "good" as I'm going to get, ya know? PS- The US would never give us a prescription to take like that. It's 30 pills or 60 and that's the way they do it. Ever once in awhile there is an antibiotic to take 3 times a day, but to get more than 30 or 60 days is virtually impossible. You can only fill it once a month too. And then we have to pay for it. I have insurance, but one of my meds it $450. A month. For 30.
  23. The covers were the only cool part! Naw- they weren't THAT bad, but no way would I recommend them. I read them for a read-a-thon, so they were great for that. At only 99 cents and about 90 pages, it's not like I feel I didn't get my money worth. Mr. Mercedes, however, I can recommend! And at least its not 5000 pages! Edited- Hello from California!
