Oh no about Sycamore Row! That is just what I feared. Review it and I can tell him I read it I hope to be done by Friday. I think I can, if I do 10% a day, which seems doable.

Do you ever eat them frozen? So yummy!

I don't have a goal either- in fact, I've never tracked what books and when for any year til I joined this site, so that has been interesting. I had a boom Spring, the summer too, until July. IF I finished The Fountainhead this month, I've only got 3 done this MONTH! I'm not even sure what my reading will be like when I start school, but I know I want to practice my writing during the reviews I write. Hopefully, they'll be as good as some others on here- you write great reviews, I always read them, even though we read different kinds of books.

I am "lucky" enough to be unemployed, so I get lots of reading time too- although my mom has been staying here recently and I don't want to be in my room reading the whole time! Do you have a goal for the year or just see how far you'll make it? How many do you think you can do this year- I'd be amazed!

Holy moly! I just found it! It's a good price too. And it's far below my price range. Thanks again, Tim. I also have my eye on this one: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=13080154122&searchurl=bsi%3D60%26amp%3Bprl%3D10.00%26amp%3Brecentlyadded%3Dall%26amp%3Bsortby%3D1%26amp%3Btn%3Dthe%2Bcount%2Bof%2Bmonte%2Bcristo%26amp%3Bx%3D0%26amp%3By%3D0 But it is more than I wanted to spend, plus more, for shipping from the UK.

That's gorgeous! I will definitely keep looking and keep my eyes open for that edition for prices- I haven't seen it yet. I have seen a beautiful copy in blue with 22k gold accents from 2003, but it's more than I want to spend and not exactly what I'm looking for. I think she'd like the one above though- thanks!

Geez Louise woman! That's a lot of reading! 91 already!? You had some very good months! Here I think I'm doing good if I get 5-6 per month.
-
Me too! I feel like a certain someone who was tortured by Midnight's Children

I just found a series of Kindle shorts by Joe Hill, I might read them. Now, I'm not sure! I'm giving myself as long as possible to finish The Fountainhead, but I am going to take a break for the read-a- thon if I am STILL reading it (I hope to god not).

Ya know, it's not that bad at all. At least in my being there twice, most people were friendly and really nice in general. I didn't think it was dirty (the subway is bad though) all that busy (I mean, it IS New York) or that you can't see the sky because of all the skyscrapers, etc all the things you hear. The older buildings are gorgeous and 5th avenue is pretty. We even went to Strawberry Fields to see John Lennon's memorial (another one for Alexi ).

I'm stuck on The Fountainhead again. 75% in. Must. Finish. Book.

Book suitable for my whole family
Anna Begins replied to sammmmmy193's topic in Book Search and Reading Recommendations
I dunno about your mom and Perks of Being a Wallflower- although it sounds like you and your sister would like it very much. I recommend Catherine Ryan Hyde's books, especially Don't Let Me Go. I think all 3 of you would like it. But I am on a slight Catherine Ryan Hyde obsession atm. And unlike Perks, it is not a YA book, but appropriate for one older, it's for any age. I also second Beloved by Toni Morrison. -
Thanks so much! I contacted the seller... we shall see

I can recommend the NY Museum of Modern Art. And the Statue of Liberty is actually cool. The ferry ride over to it is enjoyable as well (you can see Ellis Island). If you want, you can even walk by the World Trade Center Memorial on the way to the ferry. And I agree about Times Square at midnight- it is beautiful. BTW- in Boston, is the real Cheers Bar. (If you ever saw the show). They have great dirty martini's (they make em on the rocks)

Thanks so much- I tried Abe Books- they are great! I found a $25,000 copy But I will check out the seller you mentioned. I also checked out Waterstones. Making this search even harder, 100 years ago, The Count of Monte Cristo came out in TWO volumes.

Ha ha- welcome to The Dark Side... we're terrible here

Gotcha. While a tad disappointing, it's more than I knew before! That volume is gorgeous though.

September 2014 Reading Circle Poll
Anna Begins replied to Timstar's topic in Previous Reading Circle Books
Ok, I've listed 15 books in my thread I want to get to over the next few months and I don't think I will be able to get to an epic like Wolf Hall. I think the easiest for me is a re-read and a good one at that, so my vote goes to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. -
Hey! In case no one see's my Rare Book post, I am in desperate need of help finding and getting advice about acquiring a special copy of The Count of Monte Cristo. Thanks!
-
That is true! Hopefully, a good thing

I am looking for a nice edition of The Count of Monte Cristo for my mom for Christmas. I have to start looking and saving now. So I am looking in the $200 range. Can anyone tell me what to look for? I found a beautiful one from circa 1915- which would be neat because it would be just 6 days shy of 100 years old when I give it to her. What I'd really like is one from 1913 or 1914 but have been really unlucky so far with this whole thing. But as far as condition and copywrights, etc I'm just not sure. Any advice? Anyone collect books? This is the one from circa 1915 (does that mean it IS from 1915?) http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=12331102326&searchurl=an%3Ddumas%26amp%3Bfe%3Don%26amp%3Bpics%3Don%26amp%3Btn%3Dcount%2Bof%2Bmonte%2Bcristo Oddly, I have had trouble finding rare or collectable sites or shops that sell them. I could go through a UK dealer (as the one above) if they ship to the US.

Yes, I figure I can finish 12 Years a Slave in a day and 1/2 or 2.

Oooooh- thanks for the input on Cuckoo's Calling! So far I've heard nothing about it (I won't read Amazon's reviews because of spoilers). wow- I was surprised to find out 11/22/63 is over 800 pages! It didn't seem that long at all. I hope you like it! I haven't read Pride and Prejudice, just Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
