A petpeeve of mine is when the bad guys misdeeds are explained away because something bad happened to him when he was a kid and he is just misunderstood. And while yes I am sure that he is a very messed up individual, it doesn't make what he did ok. Nor take away the fact the he shroud have known that he was doing wrong. Ok small rant over

Isn't the Song of Fire and Ice Series kind of like LOTR
Not really... It is far more a political intrigue set in a fantasy world rather than a High fantasy epic.
-
Well most of the books I have fall under fantasy but I also have, non-fiction, sci-fi, historical fiction, fiction, crime, historical crime, then some classics.
So no real favorite, although I do read more fantasy! lol

Ok here is the quote, it is from a classic so someone should know it
" ' How could that bring me into trouble, sir?' asked Dantes; 'for I did not even know of what I was the bearer; and the emperor merely made such inquiries as he would of the first comer. But, pardon me, here are the health officers and the customs inspectors coming alongside.' "

Ai lol my phone has typo issues! I meant to say is it!
Will come back with a quote as soon as I have found one

Ah then isn't it Ocean at the end of the lane? That came out last years didn't it?
-
I would view it a bit like fiction, within the broad genre of fiction there is fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, etc.
BTW another good historical crime series is the Falco series by Lindsey Davis.

Ah! I think something just clicked in my brain! Is the book by Neil Gaiman?
-
Lol no worries!

I know you said that it was a recent book but how recent is recent? Was it published in the five years? Four? Two?

Well I have to admit that my knowledge of recent YA books is lacking greatly. The only male YA author that is recent, my brain can come up with is the guy who wrote Eragon and that doesn't much the quote nor is is Sci-fi. Sigh lol

Is it well known? Or won any awards?

Writing is very much a form of art and as such it is hard work and years of practice with very little reward, then suddenly one day you write of paint something that is perfect and all the years of effort is suddenly worth it.
-
I am thinking it is either the Silver Chair or the Horse and His Boy.
