I have to say that my taste in books hasn't really changed over the years, I started out reading terry pratchett and LOTR and then went ono other fantasy books. I also read what I call historical action adventure books :-) . I have very little patience for none fiction books unless the are really really intresting. So no real change for me the only thing that really changes in what I read is what book I am going to read... action... Catch the bad guys...or something with magic and dragons in it? :-) lol

I found these books in the library a few years back and I injoyed them so much that I have reread most of them. Unlike a lot of detective tipe of books I found them to be great fun and well worth reading, with charaters that I could truely get behind and like.
Here is a little a little info (very little as I know that some people don't like to spoiler alerts) :
"Marcus Didius Falco is the central character and narrator in a series of novels by Lindsey Davis. Using the concepts of modern detective stories (with Falco as the private investigator, roughly translated into the classical world as a "private informer"), Davis portrays the world of the Roman Empire under Vespasian. The tone is arch and satirical, but the historical information provided is carefully accurate."

Just thought of another book you might like, it is The Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings. The main guy is s thief turned good guy so...
-
I would suggest some of Mercedes Lackey's books. (they are good with most of them are easy reads with good plots)
The Death Gate cycle books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (the good guys are defiantly not your average good guys)
Hope that these help

Some people just say lol instead of laughing? Really???

I for one really like the James bond books. And the movies, (gadgets and super cool cars) what more could a girl want?
-
What really gets up my nose is how some people use like as every second word, so like they like speak like this like you know like... AHH!!!! I could just about pull my hair out!

I have to say what I love most about LOTR books is that for me they capture a world that is ordinary (he was trying to write a history for the English language, I think ) and makes it magical. That is not something that I find happens in a lot of books.

Ai better than me, I got 6/10. But then in my my defensad I haven't read LOTR in a long while!

Well at least someone agrees with me about the xanth books! LOL
-
Hmmm how long a list do you want? LOL
I love the discworld books be terry pratchett and the xanth series by piers Anthony, oh and some of terry brooks books and the green rider books and ....
And as to what I think makes a good book hmmm well for one thing it has to flow and is has to have a good story, and then there is that indefinable something that makes a good book.

I didn't know that they had written other books together.
-
Ah! It might be a good idea to have all of then in the same language. Things get interpreted in different easy in different languages.

The Death Gate Cycle series where I thought great books. They are, I think the type of books that really make you think after you have finished reading them. Has anyone else hear read them and what do you think?
-
Err I have no idea where the edit button is so I will just add what I want to say about the xanth books here. The xanth books are well a bit like fun books. They will certainly have you falling off your chair.

I would suggest,
The Death gate cycle series (fantasy)
The Xanth books ( also fantasy and there are 30 or more of them so a lot of reading)
The Bedlam Bard books (fantasy)
The Green Rider books ( fantasy)
The Corean chronicles (fantasy and very good)
Those are all the books that I can think of off the top my head. Hope they help

For anyone who is thinking of starting to read terry Pratchet I would suggest the Last Continent. It was the first one that I read.

Stardust, the film is waaaaay better than the book.
I totally agree with you there. To me it just seemed like the book just wasn't finished?
