  1. Shame you didn't really enjoy Fellowship of the Ring or Turtles All the Way Down . I hope your next reads will be more enjoyable for you . I wish you a fun weekend!
  2. Thanks Kay ! I wish you the same!
  3. I'm sorry you haven't had an internet connection for over a week . I'm glad it's back now! I don't remember struggling with Jane Eyre when I read it, but if I were to re-read I do think I'd struggle with it and find it wordy (because my reading tastes have changed since I first read it). I hope it gets better for you soon!
  4. I'm a bit over halfway through in my re-read of Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time 2: The Great Hunt. I'm enjoying it. I'm hoping to finish it before January is over, but I think I should be able to do that.
  5. That's true, much better that she stays at home rather than infect other people at work. I'm sorry you've been feeling so tired . Good luck! I wish you a nice weekend ! Congratulations ! I know it's a bit early, but I wish every one a lovely weekend in advance .
  6. Magic Kingdom For Sale/Sold by Terry Brooks (book 1 in the Magic Kingdom of Landover series).
  7. Thank you Sarah !!
  8. Thank you! Most of the bookshelves came from Ikea, though there are a couple of Lundia ones in there too. Some of my book cases were gifts (ie. from my parents), others I have bought myself. I've acquired them throughout my whole life . Here libraries have books that are made into a hardback but without a flappy bit / dust jacket. The source can be either paperback or hardcover (with or without a flappy bit / dust jacket), then the library plastifies the cover, so it becomes a lot more sturdy. You can recognise the library books in my collection, because most have a little black and white icon on their spine (sometimes just a letter of the alphabet, sometimes an icon). I buy books from library sales, charity shops, book fairs, book shops and I also order a lot of them online. Since my library mostly sells Dutch books at library sales, I find the sales great for picking up older Dutch books (ie. children's books, YA, adult books). But if I want something in English that was not translated, or if I prefer the English version, then I usually order it online (sometimes I come across it in a charity shop, book fair or book shop). I have a preference for paperbacks, though library hardbacks are good too. But I don't like hardcovers with dust jackets / flappy bits (they are fine if they don't have a dust jacket but have the cover printed on the cover of the book, if that makes sense). I do own a few hardcovers with dust jackets, but they are not my favourite format at all. To each their own! I loved looking at your collection and seeing for example those Wheel of Time hardcovers . The book called 'Logic' sounds nice. Could you tell me the author? It seems there exist several books that are titled 'Logic'. Thank you! It's true, I do own a lot of books. Reading and books are my number one hobby .
  9. I look forward to reading that . Wow, you've got a lot of newspapers to catch up on then (and TV too). Short stories and novellas don't take as much time to read, that's true . I'll definitely have a look at the Witched Witches of the Midwest series, I have put the first two on my wishlist (and you're in my books recommended to me in 2017 post!). That's nice to hear . Signed, wow, that is very lucky !
  10. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better . I hope you have fun in London with your best friend and her partner and with your partner. I hope they will all get along . My sister has one of those, she says it really helps her . It's true that they are not cheap, but she's had hers for many years now and as far as I know it still works and she still uses it (I think! I'll have to ask her about it some time).
  11. Sorry to hear the staff member has Crohns Disease, that sounds very unpleasant . I'm glad you're managing a bit better though .
  12. I'm glad to hear it's great fun . I look forward to watch it too when the DVD is released .
  13. I hope you'll be able to sleep more soon and feel more rested . Good luck, it sounds like a tough situation . I hate being told of things (ie. events) at a late time, I'd much rather know things in advance (so I can plan for things). It's not nice people expect you to have everything in stock always. I hope you enjoy your holiday when it's that time !
  14. I made some progress in The Great Hunt but decided to start another YA contemporary alongside it. I read Alyssa Sheinmel - Faceless. This book is about a teenage girl named Maisie whose face gets burnt in an accident. She gets a face transplant, which is a rare chance. She finds it difficult dealing with all the changes in her life. Note to @Alexander the Great, if you're reading this, running is a side-theme of the book. It's definitely not the main point, but it is mentioned throughout the story, it's a side element (if you can find an excerpt / sample, the first few pages of the first chapter, mention running). So I thought of you . I quite liked Faceless. It had some interesting insights. It was interesting to follow Maisie's thought processes.
  15. While I am re-reading Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time 2: The Great Hunt, I wasn't feeling in the mood for it a few days ago, and so decided to start Josh Sundquist - Love and F1rst Sight. I don't normally read two books at once, but gladly it went well. I read Josh Sundquist's memoir We Should Hang Out Sometime and really liked it. Love and F1rst Sight is his YA contemporary debut novel. It's about a blind teenage boy named Will. He develops a crush on a girl. Then an experimental surgery could give him his eye-sight back for the first time ever. I follow a couple of blind / visually impaired people on YouTube and have watched some of their videos, and based on what I know from that, I thought the author did his research really well for this book. The book was insightful and I really liked it. It reads pretty quickly and has short chapters which I like. I really liked learning more about what it's like to be blind (from birth) and while the experimental surgery doesn't quite exist in the way it happens in the book, I thought it was well handled. Overall I quite enjoyed reading this book.
  16. I just may have to check those out .
  17. I'm sorry you're not feeling that great . You can always message me if you want to. 200 euros is a lot of money, I can understand you're hesistant about spending that. Are you not really enjoying your job? Hugs .
  18. Thanks, I feel honoured ! I see many great science-fiction and fantasy books . And you have a lot of Stephen King books! Awesome. My most recent pictures are here (July 2017, though it has changed a bit since then), old video is here (but it looks very different now, I got some new book cases for In the summer of 2017. The lighting is terrible in the video and there is no sound. But since you shared yours, it seems only fair .). A lot of my books are double-stacked, because I ran out of space in those areas . I own a lot of unread books too. I hope you enjoy this !
  19. I would read that !
  20. Her Mother's Shadow by Diane Chamberlain (book 3 in the Keeper of the Light / Kiss River trilogy).
  21. I'm saddened by the loss. May she rest in peace . I have read 4 of her Earthsea novels, and I love them. I have a few other books by her on my TBR.
  22. First off, I wish you a very happy year of reading in 2018 !! I look forward to be following your (b)log ! Secondly, wow, you have read 52 books this year so far (in these 23 days of January) !! I am stunned . Were those Witch books by Amanda M. Lee any good? Some of the titles sound creative . Are they mysteries with some fantasy elements mixed in? (EDIT: Ah I just saw you posted about them in the Cozy Mysteries thread. Mystery solved !) Great picture of the books you bought, 50p is really cheap! I own 3 Tom Holt books (Little People; Nothing But Blue Skies; Valhalla), have you read any of his? I haven't yet, I don't know if they'll be good but they sounded good (well, I got Little People for free). I hope you enjoy all of the books you bought !
  23. Glad to hear it !
