  1. Awww, I hope the cat will be found soon. It's always sad when a pet goes missing .
  2. The topic for last week was: 2018 Reading Resolutions Author's Note: -- Self explanatory. Let us know 5 of your reading goals for the year. I initially didn't post this one as most of us have our own book (b)logs / threads for this. I personally don't really have any set-in-stone goals, as I hope that'll take some pressure off my reading. This week's topic: Books You Didn't Get to In 2017 Author's Note: --These are books you didn't end up getting to in 2017, but really want to prioritize in 2018. I'm a mood reader so I'm really not sure what is my highest priority right now in terms of books.. I just read what I feel like reading and I usually can't predict the next few books I'll be reading, because after finishing my current read (whatever it is), I usually feel in a different mood and after finishing that next book I'll be in a different mood and so on. I can't really predict it and book priorities for me change all the time.
  3. Thanks Sarah !
  4. That sounds interesting, I have read a couple of books in which the main character did running. I found it interesting to read about even if running itself is not my sort of thing. My sister regularly runs, though I don't remember how far she runs nowadays.
  5. I agree, I would've been happy with that too. It's good that the two books were pretty different so it didn't feel like repetition . It's been a while since I read a book by Jodi Picoult, the last one I read was Harvesting the Heart in March 2017 (I admit, I looked that up as I didn't quite remember when in 2017 I read the book). So maybe in the next few months I'll read another Picoult book. I've really been looking forward to reading her newest release, Small Great Things, but my best friend (Anna Begins) wanted to read it together and I was waiting for her to be in the mood for it, which hasn't happened yet, so that's one of the reasons why I haven't read it yet. Of course I could also read another one of the unread ones I have, like Mercy. I hope you enjoy your next read (by a different author) .
  6. That's good to hear . The book is on my TBR. I hope you enjoy the second half too! I'm currently reading Wonderjaren by Pam van der Veen and Albert Wiglema. The book is about technology in the 1980s and 1990s and how it changed our daily life.
  7. Thanks Madeleine . Every year so far I realised it was my anniversary a few days late, so I was determined to remember it on the date this year!
  8. I hope it keeps working for you and that your mojo does okay this year . Same! I love reading all the new logs and lists.
  9. Today marks my 5-year BCF anniversary !! So in honour of that I thought I'd write a little piece about how much BCF means to me. When I first visited this forum, I was looking for a forum to discuss books with other people. I googled on 'book forum' and BCF was one of the first hits. I found a very friendly community on here and I loved it. I've found several friends though this forum, and I'm very grateful for all of you lovely people. I love talking with all of you (not just about books, also about other stuff). I love going on this forum every day and reading all the new posts. I love going on the forum and post my thoughts about books I've read or other topics that interest me. A lot of you know about my autism and sometimes about my ADD and are very supportive and understanding. That to me is a rare occurance, as sometimes in real life some people in my past have not always been so understanding. I love the friendly culture of our forum. I love that we all can have our book (b)logs and post about what we read. It feels very personal. In these 5 years it seems I have made 17,016 posts (which will be 17,017 when I post this). But what's way more important, is that I've made a lot of good friends on here. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for this forum and the lovely people on here and those I met through here. Anyway.. that's a lot of rambliness to basically say that I love this place and I love you all .
  10. Wow, great review of Handle With Care! I also quite liked the book. The only thing I liked a bit less was the ending. I agree about the style, sometimes it could be confusing to who 'you' was referring to. But overall I quite liked Handle With Care. That's two Picoult books already! I usually feel I need more time in between impressive books by the same author, otherwise I easily get an author burnout.
  11. I hope you'll enjoy the next one too! Wow, that is amazing! I'm glad you felt relaxed during the read-a-thon .
  12. Wow, you have so many amazing lists ! I wish you a great year in 2018 (reading & otherwise) . I look forward to see you around the forum more !
  13. Here are some mini-reviews of the books I've read the past week. Loes den Hollander - Voorbedacht This is a literary thriller by Loes den Hollander, about a woman whose child disappears, her boyfriend disappears at the same time. I found the book to be a quick read, it had short chapters and I wanted to keep reading it. Dylan Haegens, Marit Brugman and Rick Vermeulen - Dylan Haegens Stripboek I bought this because I watch videos of these people on YouTube. This comic book has a lot of short comics in it, and I liked most of them and I also liked the illustration style. Anne Frank, Ari Folman, David Polonsky - Het Achterhuis This is the graphic novel of Anne Frank's diary. I thought it was quite well done. Of course, it loses a little bit from the actual diary, but I still really felt for Anne and what happened to her, and even though I'd read the diary before, the graphic novel did make me think. I liked the illustrations. Megan McDonald (ill. Peter Reynolds) - Fleur Humeur 5: Fleur Humeur wordt dokter (Judy Moody 5: Doctor Judy Moody) I read this based on the recommendation of a good friend. I quite liked it, it was funny in some places.
  14. Thanks, Nollaig . I hope you have a great year in 2018 too!
  15. Well done, I hope you had fun .
  16. Well done Karen ! Of course not! I believe audiobooks are just as valid a form of reading as a paperbook or e-book (even if they aren't my kind of thing).
  17. You must have really liked The Night Circus . I hope you feel better soon though .
  18. Thanks Alexander, I hope the same for you !
  19. I'm glad your reading mojo is doing well so far this year, that's great !
  20. Thanks !
  21. I'm sorry to hear about your back problems! I hope you feel better soon . Good luck with your goals for this year !
