  4. I hope you enjoy reading this weekend ! I hope you'll get on with this book better than the first time!
  5. Here it's cold and grey and rainy. About an hour ago we had some heavy rain. I guess winter is coming.
  6. I can hardly believe it's December already.. ! So, time for a new monthly reading topic. I'm currently reading Only Human by Sylvain Neuvel, book 3 in The Themis Files series (trilogy). I've been reading this science-fiction trilogy the past week (ish) and I've been loving it. I'm hoping to finish book 3 before Thursday when I start doing the read-a-thon. We shall see. What book(s) are you reading? Or any other book activity you want to mention (did you buy any books? etc)?
  7. It's a bit early to reflect on my goals, but.. I felt like commenting on them today. I read more than in some years, less than in others. I consider this goal well done ✅. I did really well some months, but not well during others, so.. nope... ❎. I guess I could call it ✅ ❎ half met, but.. I think overall I failed this goal. I failed this goal ❎, though it was not my fault! With the global pandemic, I haven't been able to go to the library. I'm not going much to other places either, for obvious reasons. So, goal failed, but once the pandemic is over / there is a vaccin / cure / etc. I definitely will be going to the library as I really miss it. In fact I paid my library card yearly fee a couple of weeks ago, and I have not gone to the library since I paid the previous year's fee in November 2019. I really hope 2021 will see a vaccin or multiple vaccins and that the pandemic will have disappeared so that everyone who is able to, can go safely to shops, family, work, travel, etc. Being unable to go to the library this year, almost all of the books I read were from my TBR. Exceptions are re-reads and a few books my partner owns that I borrowed from him. So, this goal is well done ✅.
  8. Hmm.. it seems I didn't post about my read books in September, October or November.. The least I can do though is post the author/title and my rating. Ratings are out of 10. So when comparing to 5 stars: 1 = 1 ⭐ (can't rate lower than 1 ⭐) 2 = 1 ⭐ 3 = 1 or 2 ⭐ (or 1.5) 4 = 2 ⭐ 5 = 2 or 3 ⭐ (or 2.5) 6 = 3 ⭐ 7 = 3 ⭐ or 4 ⭐ (or 3.5) 8 = 4 ⭐ 9 = 4 ⭐ or 5 ⭐ (or 4.5) 10 = 5 ⭐ For the halves .5, I round it up or down on GoodReads to which one I feel it deserves more. 9. The December read-a-thon will take place this upcoming weekend, on the 4th, 5th and 6th of December (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). I won't have much time (or energy) to read on Saturday, so instead I will start on Thursday the 3rd and then won't need to be too worried about not being able to read much on Saturday. I'm looking forward to it . (this weekend is coincidentally a special weekend for some Dutch and Belgian people particularly those with children, as they celebrate Sinterklaas. But I don't celebrate anymore. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone is interested in other cultures or such). Note: For anyone who reads this at a much later point in time, I didn't post about the November read-a-thon because the forum was down for maintenance. I did read some books that weekend, but it wasn't the same as I couldn't talk to anyone here about it, nor alert people that it was the read-a-thon that weekend (Nov 6, 7, 8). I hope someone will be joining me this upcoming weekend in reading .
  10. I've been enjoying the Komi Can't Communicate manga, are you liking it ?
  11. I get that longer books intimidate you, I get that too. I'm going to try next February to read a long book together with a friend. We might read for example 40-50 pages a day (I haven't discussed that with her yet, but I think 50ish pages should be the limit as otherwise it might be harder to make sure to read that many pages each day). It is a re-read for me, but I've been reluctant to re-read it because it is huge (it's The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, which I loved the first time I read it). I want to re-read it and the second book, so that I can read the third book and the recently come out prequel once it is available in smaller paperback. Anyway, when I do a buddy read together with a friend, I always read the pages of the buddy read first when I have spare time in the day and don't need to do anything else. Then if there is still time in the day to read and I feel like it, I will read in a book that I'm just reading by myself (which is usually shorter than the buddy read book). I find it helps me get through a book. That said, the longest book I have buddy read so far was 526 pages, so I haven't tried it yet with a longer book. Good luck reading your longer books!
  12. I can see a small image in the Autumn Giveway post halfway through your text between paragraphs, but at the bottom it has text and a link that is supposed to be an image, but when I click on it to enlarge it, it gives a file broken icon. You are right that it could have changed after the FireFox update. It seems that FireFox finds the site not completely secure (the lock in the address bar as a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on it) and maybe that's why it's blocking images..? But it's not giving me an option to unblock them. This (FireFox help page) says it's not blocking anything though. And it shows you how to unblock things.. but it doesn't look like I can. I guess if there are images in posts in the future I'll try using Google Chrome to view them, at least until I've figured out how to make the images appear in FF.
  13. Hi Ann, welcome here ! I usually read paperbooks too, it is my preferred format. I have a paperback edition of Between the Stops. I'm glad you liked the book! I hope you will be able to do more reading soon. Since you mentioned lockdown, are you from the UK? A lot of people here (nowadays) are from the UK, I am from the Netherlands (we currently don't have a full lockdown but there are rules about things, I am almost always staying at home and barely going out at the moment). I agree, it can be nice to read an article now and then rather than a book . I'm still reading Fablehaven 4: Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary by Brandon Mull, which is almost finished (my friend and I read 3 chapters per day). I finished reading Artemis Fowl 8 and Gemina (see my previous post) and have also finished Obsidio (the 3rd book, Gemina was book 2 in The Illuminae Files trilogy). I then read Books 1 - 4 of The Tapper Twins by Geoff Rodkey (books 1 and 2 were re-reads, books 3 and 4 were new to me). I'm currently reading Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel, book 1 in The Themis Files series. I only started it yesterday but it is so good I ended up reading more than half of it. I might just try to finish it today as it has me intrigued. Oh yes, the reason I had more time to read was that I put myself on a news-and-social-media ban for a few days (because reading often about the bad stuff happening was not good for my mental health).
  14. I did this after reading your post, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Thanks for the tip though!
  15. I'm not sure if anyone here is interested, but the first 7 books in the Middle Falls Time Travel series by Shawn Inmon are free on Kindle atm (at least on Amazon UK, Amazon US, and Amazon NL. I have not checked any other ones), until November 24th (to celebrate the release of the 13th book, which I had somehow not pre-ordered but I've bought it now). So far I've only read book 1 (which I really liked), but I have read and liked a lot of other books by the author (Shawn Inmon). Anyway, if no one is interested, fine too! But they are free for a couple of days so I thought I'd post about it just in case anyone is interested. These are books for adults btw, not for kids (I noticed that book 1 has 'grade level' on it on Amazon UK, but it is not for kids and I would not recommend letting a child read these). Here is the synopsis for the first book, copied from Amazon: ----- ---- Amazon UK links: These are the free ones: (books 1 - 7): Series page: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08NTTB6G8?ref_=dbs_dp_rwt_sb_tkin&binding=kindle_edition Book 1 The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver https://www.amazon.co.uk/Unusual-Second-Life-Thomas-Weaver-ebook/dp/B01J8FBONO/ Book 2 The Redemption of Michael Hollister https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075RPH7HV/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_2 Book 3 The Death and Life of Dominick Davidner https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0763ZHB49/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_3 Book 4 The Final Life of Nathaniel Moon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B078H3376R/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_4 Book 5 The Emancipation of Veronica McAllister https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BBVRC3P/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_5 Book 6 The Changing Lives of Joe Hart https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D5JYHS4/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_6 Book 7 The Vigilante Life of Scott Mckenzie https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FSS9QCM/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_7 It looks like the other 6 books can be read for free on KU on Amazon UK.
