  9. Oh geez... apparently I didn't post about any book that I read in 2021 at all ??! Oops. I will go and edit the lists in the first page of this topic and then write a list here.
  10. The BCF read-a-thon is this upcoming weekend, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of April (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). After doing not that great with it in February and March, I am going to try to do my best this month (April). Oh, coincidentally, it is Easter on April 4th and April 5th, I just realised . I don't know if anyone else is joining me, but we could extend it to Monday as that's 'Easter Monday' (or 2nd Easter Day as it is in Dutch)?
  11. I have read Magyk (and also the 2nd book in the series) but I can't recall much of it at the moment. Which character reminds you of Rincewind? (or is it a spoiler? we can use spoiler tags then). I hope you enjoy the whole book and that you enjoy the new Ben Aaronovitch book afterwards!
  12. I'm glad you enjoyed it in the end . I didn't realise it was so long ago that I was on here, oops (though I regularly read bits as guest). I hope you are all doing okay.
  13. Shame it had a few issues. I'm glad the second half was at least more enjoyable than the first. Well done on finishing it! Thanks, me too !
  14. I am, thank you ! Thanks Hayley . I read in Inkheart a bit the past few days, and I read about 40ish pages in World Without End on Friday, on Saturday and on Sunday. On Sunday I also read Himouto! Umaru-chan Volume 9 by Sankakuhead. That sounds good . How far are you with it now, and was it enjoyable ? It's great you managed to do some audiobook reading, I hope you are enjoying the read .
  15. The March read-a-thon is scheduled for this upcoming weekend (Friday the 5th, Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of March). I don't really know if I'll do much reading aside from my scheduled reading, I'm re-reading World Without End by Ken Follett this month (which in my copy comes down to about 40 pages a day), and I'm reading Inkheart by Cornelia Funke this month together with another friend. I would like to read some of my usual read-a-thon graphic novels, graphic memoirs, manga and illustrated children's books, but I don't know if I will. I'm still struggling with life stuff and other things are on my mind. I hope anyone who participates will have fun reading!
  16. There's The Story Graph: https://www.thestorygraph.com/ , I haven't explored it lots yet but I wanted to mention it as I think it does deserve some attention. They have a paid-for account too which gives you more features.
  17. I've read either 20, 19 or 18, depending on: 1) I read a lot of the Chronicles of Narnia books when I was a kid, but they were library loans and I am not 100% sure I read all 7. 2) I translated parts of the Odyssey for my ancient Greek class in high school, but since we did not do the whole book (that'd be too much obviously), I don't know if I can count it as read or not..? We were taught about it, and we translated parts of it from ancient Greek to Dutch. But I'm pretty sure we didn't read every bit of the whole book 100%. Here are the other ones I've read: 4. Sophie's World - Jostein Gaarder (I loved this as a teenager) 7. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee (for English class in high school) 8. Matilda - Roald Dahl (loved this as a kid) 10. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Philip K. Dick (my first Philip K. Dick novel and it made me want to read more of his works). 12. Murder on the Orient Express - Agatha Christie (loved it) 15. In Cold Blood - Truman Capote (for English class in high school) 29. Harry Potter (series) - J.K. Rowling (book 1 for English class in high school, I read the rest of my own accord) 30. His Dark Materials (trilogy) - Philip Pullman (I quite enjoyed this trilogy, I read it in 2019/2020 with several other people) 42. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (read this as a teenager and loved it) 48. The War of the Worlds - H.G. Wells (loved it) 51. A Game of Thrones - George R. R. Martin (I read all 5 books years ago and found them very enjoyable, but I am still waiting for books 6 and 7 to be released..) 53. Flowers for Algernon - Daniel Keyes (I read this when I was in my twenties I believe, and liked it). 57. Macbeth - William Shakespeare (for English class in high school) 78. The Time Machine - H.G. Wells (meh.. this was kind of disappointing to me to be honest.). 80. Animal Farm - George Orwell (loved it) 81. The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank (loved it, I read the original Dutch version since I'm Dutch and it is my first language) 85. Bridget Jones's Diary - Helen Fielding (loved books 1 and 2, liked book 3, really didn't like book 4) 91. The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis (see in the beginning of this post) 93. The Odyssey - Homer (see in the beginning of this post) 100. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte (loved it)
  18. I really enjoyed this story too!
  19. My apologies for coming back to this topic after the read-a-thon ended, I've been exhausted and busy the past few days. Thank you Hayley . Oops! Did you get any snow? It started snowing Saturday evening here, and stopped around 15:00 on Sunday. Today they predict more snow fall. It will be cold all week so I think the snow will stay for a while, though if it doesn't snow too much it should disperse eventually due to the wind, traffic, etc. That sounds great! I hope you enjoy(ed) it ! I hope you had fun! Hi Luna! I hope you enjoy Bel Ami . Awww. Yeah, I have those kind of days too.. Yay!! I hope you enjoy What Abigail Did That Summer when it comes out. I hope you enjoy What Abigail Did That Summer too. I ended up reading my 'required' pages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but nothing more. I'm reading about 30-50ish pages of The Pillars of the Earth (book 1) by Ken Follettt every day (until the end of February) (how many depends on the day as my friend and I prefer to stop at a chapter or section break). The book is a re-read for me (a new read for my friend). On Saturday I started West End Girls by Jenny Colgan, which I'm reading together with another friend. We read about 50ish pages a day. Reading totals: Friday: The Pillars of the Earth (Pages 165-194) Saturday: The Pillars of the Earth (Pages 194-228) West End Girls (Pages 1 - 65) Sunday: The Pillars of the Earth (Pages 228-281) West End Girls (Pages 66-108) I haven't started a read of my own alongside them, as I'm struggling with things (life) as it is atm.
  20. I'm glad Shantaram was a good read . I was gifted it, but I hadn't heard any reviews from anyone I know (I had just read general reviews on GoodReads).
  21. We've had lots of snow since Saturday evening. We haven't had this much snow in years! It's predicted to stay cold all week (with a maximum of about -4 °C and a minimum of -13ish °C), more snow is expected to fall today.
  22. Congratulations Brian!!
