  1. So, what you're saying is that those of us who enjoyed HP are too simple and shallow to understand "deeper" books? Totally insulting. You've been on this board all of five minutes and this is what you bring to the table? Not a good move.
  2. In celebration of Olivia de Havilland's 100th birthday, I'm watching Gone With the Wind. Pixie, I do enjoy a good hour spent watching Father Brown!
  3. As I've stated... I don't miss a word and come away with what I'm meant to come away with. I've read and listened to the same books and they impart the same thing to me whether I read it or listen to it.
  4. I do both and I count my audio as "reading" because I get totally enthralled in them as if I were laying my eyes on the words. I don't miss a word. If a blind person listens to audios, do they not count? They are taking in the same words and experiences, just in a different format. It all counts in my opinion.
  5. Oh MAN, Peacefield! We LOVE fresh caught fish!!!! As we live in the Lowcountry (Beaufort) local seafood is plentiful. Hubby and I refuse to eat at places like Red Lobster because you can really taste the difference.
  6. Feel better, dtrpath! Had a pretty fabulous day today! On impulse I applied to a company called KellyConnect. They are a temp company. Well, this company staffs employees for major business. One company in particular is Apple. I did their assessment, uploaded my resume, set a time for a facetime interview, got the job and will be working FROM HOME as an Apple IT! They provide two months training and equipment. I am SO excited!! To be able to work from home has been a dream of mine for years. Decent salary to boot. What a great day!
  7. For dietary reasons I have stayed away BUT as long as I stay away from tons of guacamole and sour cream l can lay into it. I absolutely REFUSE to eat at chain restaurants.
  8. LMBO!!! Sacrilege!!! I normally only want it smothered in butter with salt. We have a flea market that Mexicans set up food trucks. They sell these types of corn on te cob that is grilled and topped wroth seasonings and cheese. Looks SOLO good. I'm going to try it this weekend.
  9. How could I forget about curb on the cob?!
  10. Just wondering what your favorite summer foods are for your part of the globe. During the summer in the deep south of the US, we enjoy watermelons, potato salad, garden salad, barbeque (ribs, pork, beef) pound cake with whipped cream and strawberries, just to name a few.
  11. I'm here sitting on the porch enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. I leave for home tomorrow after church. I managed to duck out of shopping with my mom this morning. Just me and Kizzy hanging around and taking a nice walk and visiting a few family members. Not sure what else to do today, I MIGHT go riding but then again I might just stay put. Footloose and fancy free I be!
  12. Thanks Gaia! Peacefield, I'm in Halifax County. Its about 1.5 hours from Greensboro, NC, 1.5 hours from Roanoke, 45 minutes from Lynchburg and 2 hours from Lynchburg. Its about 3 hours from my mom's home to DC. We've been hit with lots of storms since I've gotten here. I'm starting to wonder if I brought the weather when I crossed the border, lol! Mom wants to go into the city so we'll be off in a few. I really don't want to be gone long. The porch has my name written all over it and even if it rains I can sit on it and read and write. I really need to start on my next article. Besides, I spend less when I stay put! Kizzy is truly a country dog and my mother has fallen so hard for her that she is hinting at keeping her! NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN! I love how Kizzy can take off and explore and stretch her legs. I hate that she'll have to go back to a fenced yard BUT we'll make more effort to come home. No sign of the white cat, Fluffy. My mom thinks she may have met an untimely end. We're in a really rural area and when I came in on Wednesday, there were two bear sightings 1/4 mile from here. There are also foxes. I hope she's okay.
  13. What happened to her? She disappeared a few days after Prince died. The police searched for her but I can't find any updates about it.
  14. I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. That sucks. I'm glad that you've been given enough notice and can plan accordingly. Get your pound of flesh for sure! Now that I'm pretty footloose and fancy free and the hubby is easy-going, I can pick up and go a-visiting. So, that's what I did. I pack up a few bags, the dog and her doggy luggage, et al and we are now sitting in my mom's house in Virginia. Guess I'll hang around till Sunday, after church. My pup is so happy to be able to run around outside without being confined by a gate. She's done really good with coming when she's called and doesn't wander off. The only issue is that I forgot about my mom's cats. She has two of them. Kizzy does NOT like cats. When we walked onto the porch, the first cat looked at her and exited, stage left. The white cat, Fluffy, wasn't in such hurry. Kizzy gave her a look that clearly said "you really DONT want to be on the porch when I get up there. Fluffy took her advice. We haven't seen them since. Kizzy is like that family member that shows up and runs folks away. BUT my mom loves her. Considering when we were growing up pets were kept outside. She has become the granny of a dog. The great grand kids call her Gigi. I caught her talking to the dog last night and I heard her say..."Kizzy, come to Gigi." I had to go into my room, close the door, put my face in the pillow and laugh my butt off. Who IS this old lady and what did she do to my mother?!
  15. According to news outlets, his father is now being scrutinized. It appears he is also homophobic and has made some interesting political YouTube videos.
  16. I LOVE the series and have read them all. I'm just sorry that she didn't write anymore. What I've noticed is that the television series sometimes takes from several of the books to make an episode. I constantly find myself revisiting Midsomer. I may have to dig out my books again and re-read them again over the summer. Troy was definitely a different character in the book. Barnaby had his measure though. He knew exactly what his young detective was about and often goaded him and aggravated to put him in his place. The only person Troy loves, outside of himself is his daughter. He's unfaithful and uneducated, bless him. I found Barnaby to be a bit more likable on the tv series. I still liked him but he was more gruff in the books. He also had his heart wrapped around Cully's pinkie. Cully was a bit unexpected in the book also. Wild and "been around" according to her daddy. Anyway, I love finding folks who enjoy the same stories I do!
  17. Add to that, the ignorant orangutan, Donald Trump, using this as an excuse to add more fuel to the fire and THANKING his "supporters" for congratulating him on "being right." i swear, that man has managed to unearth every ignorant, illiterate, brain damaged, bigoted, homophobic, xenophobic, racist, uneducated and inbreed species the world has ever seen. He has made them feel safe and secure. God help our country. As a former law enforcement officer and wife of a retired Marine, we are gun owners. Hubby hunts and the gun we've had, he's had for almost 30 years. Its a .9 (glock) It will get the job done IF the job needs to be done. What I don't understand is WHY we feel the need to let every nut off his meds, access to automatic weapons?!
  18. Ah, yes. But they are both fruit. Samantha Brown and Max Rudy are in the same category as Steves but I wanted to show just how different his program was in comparison to Bourdain.
  19. Not much going on here. The temps have been warming up and I'm going to start gearing up for my summer hibernation. I don't hang around outside too much as I have sporadic eczema and psoriasis. Heat does NOT help. So for the next few months I'll go out and about during the early part of the morning when its still comfortable or in the evening when the sun goes down. I'll spend time under my trees in the backyard but open sun during the heat of the day is a no no. I do go to the gym for my circuit training three times a week and the farmers market on Saturdays and I do my errands (mornings) but that will be pretty much it unless we are going out of town. I was going to load up on library books but decided to utilize my library's overdrive. I can read my books online. I'm also going to pull down and dust off books on my bookshelf. Not to mention the 700 books stored on my nook app. I THINK I'm set for reading material! Got registered for my last two classes yesterday, 17 and 18th Century Philosophy and Biology w/lab. I'll graduate in December. I ordered the books from amazon and plan to get a jump on the reading.
  20. I do love CSI! I only watch Las Vegas one though. Right now I'm watching Layover with Anthony Bourdain. Its a travel show. Much edgier than Rick Steve's and Andrew Zimmern. Today we're in Dublin!
  21. We definitely see where his spawn gets it from.
  22. You know your "justice" system is twisted, corrupted and warped when THIS is allowed to happen. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/stanford-university-sexual-assault-former-swimmer-brock-turner-witnesses/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab5i&linkId=25296139
  23. Thanks, frankie! She's almost 4.
  24. Athena, Ubbe is precious, like a little stuffed puppy! I'm so used to having a humongous critter that I wouldn't know what to do with something so tiny. Boarding is what we call it when our animals stay overnight in a kennel.
  25. Humid, gray and wet. Tomorrow promises to be hellish hot and humid but with sunshine.
