  1. A pipeline in Alabama has a large leak. So large in fact that at least 4 states are affected right now. In my state gas prices have risen over night and there is a "state of emergency" in effect. This supposedly allows certain truck drivers to transport fuel. My old hometown is experiencing shortages already. Many gas stations have run out. This should be interesting. I'm expecting price gauging. Last night it was $1.89 a gallon. This morning it was $2.00. It cost me $35 to fill up my tank when usually it only costs about $25. I'm good about not doing too much traveling. I have classes everyday but Mondays are a bit tricky. I have an early morning lab and normally I would just hang out on campus til my next class but its not financially savvy to do that now. I have to pay a dollar an hour to park. there are 5 hours between classes. Its just easier to leave and go to the downtown library for about 2 hours and then go home or just go home and come back at 3pm. Either way, Mondays are a logistical headache. I have to pack my bag for all contingencies. This fuel problem will require some serious thought on my Monday travels.
  2. I wore jeans and a long sleeved shirt today. My lab and lecture rooms are way too cold. I didn't work up too much of a sweat walking from the parking garage to the college like I normally do so, yeah, that was pretty good. We're under a thunderstorm warning yet there's nothing ominous looking going on. I do hope we get some rain as it will drop the temps even more.
  3. I'm glad you're finally getting your diagnosis. Nothing worse than trying to prove something is wrong and no one believing you or minimizing your issues. When its finally set in stone, will you be able to go back to work? I've been wasting away my morning on Facebook. I haven't been able or inclined to post much in the past few weeks. Gotta remind people I'm still here! Today I'm studying and getting my shopping list together. Not much else planned besides those things.
  4. Warm but not scorching. Cool mornings and evenings, mid level hell in between.
  5. I was hoping the cool and gray temps would last but nope, it was warmer today than its been in the past few days.
  6. Hey y'all! Its lovely outside (so far). The temps have dropped and it looks to be lasting. I can always tell because the arthritis in my ankle gives me a heads up. I'm back in my brace for a while. I'd rather wear this than walk miles using my cane, although I keep it in my truck just in case. Not much going on today, class in the afternoon and I have to get my graduation application in ASAP. Finished up Descartes and am now reading Thomas Hobbes, Leviathan. Hopefully this will be less frustrating than Descartes. I truly believe D should have had a more pleasant life he picked up a bottle of wine and got a nice buzz at least once a weak. I swear this man was a barrel of laughs. Not.
  7. Its gray and cloudy today with a 50% chance of rain. I'm sure it'll start pouring down when I arrive at the campus and have to walk to the building. The temps are dropping and its starting to feel a little fall-y.
  8. Stand up for your rights Talisman! Hey y'all! I've been busy with school and decluttering my home. I had a few more areas that needed my attention so I dug in and got them done. The closets and chests needed a thorough going through. I ended up filling two large yard bags of clothes and dropped them off at the local thrift store. I then cleaned linen closets and lastly, our fridge/freezer and deep freezer. I got up this morning and did some studying, walked the dog and did some raking in the backyard. I have a class in two hours but I plan to take a nap before then. Oh yeah, I set up a new work area in my den. Although I have a study, I find that I'm spending more time in the den (since I've been cozying it up). I still need to have a dedicated study space so I got that taken care of. Have a good one!
  9. Finishing up the last few episodes of Luther. I had been waiting for it to come on our PBS channel. I was wanting to watch it weekly but they haven't played it in a couple of weeks, so I'm binging. After I'm done with this, I have to find another British crime drama to fall in love with.
  10. I hope that I don't give anything away. For some reason I can't find the "spoiler" option. The script was a struggle at first because I'm not a "play" reader. It took me two attempts to work past it but I finally did and completed the reading in two sittings. It's not what I expected. I wanted to know what happened to the Weasleys and Some of the other major players. It was disconcerting with the time changing and I often felt that Harry, Heromine and Ron's characters were just too NOT them. How old IS McGonegall? Dumbledoor...well, not what I expected. Overall I guess it was a good read. I don't feel the need to go back and read it again but I will purchase it as part of my HP book collection. There's more that I'd like to say but again, it would involve revelations and I don't want to do that.
  11. I've been enjoying September. The weather has miraculously cooled down and I can just FEEEELLLLLLL Fall in the air. I'm determined to believe its right around the corner! Nothing much going on here. Hubby and I went to the farmers market and a swapmeet yesterday, came home and did a bit of yard work, mainly picking up branches from the storm. Nothing major, just had to pick up the little stuff. Today I did a biology quiz and have been fiddling around on my electronic gadgets. That's my plan for the rest of the day. Hope you guys have a good one!
  12. It's a lazy Sunday so I'm wiling away the afternoon watching The Gathering. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1019431/combined I'm so glad I was able to catch it and dvr it because it only comes on once a year. It normally comes on in October around Halloween but it came on earlier this year. If you have four hours to kill, you could spend it doing worse, lol!
  13. I just did an upgrade, a Samsung S6 to an S7. I think I've found my perfect phone. I'm one that uses all my gadgets. I can access my powerpoint and word documents on my tablet and my phone which comes in handy as I have a lot of stuff for my classes I need access to. As a matter of fact, last Monday I failed to print out my lab paperwork and had to use my phone to pull it up. My tablet, cell and laptop are very dear to me, lol!!! My phone has everything I need. I listen to my favorite podcasts while walking to class, watch Netflix when its slow and I have to wait (and failed to bring my tablet so I can read) and I can read magazines, not to mention taking pictures and playing solitaire! I've searched for the "perfect for me" phone and have found it so I don't foresee me switching for a long while. I don't even have to worry about storage as I can purchase storage expansion. I like that because this is usually the reason for my upgrading. I'm really good about not installing a bunch of useless apps and I'm always cleaning up my cache. It allows me to install larger apps that I use between my tablet and laptop.
  14. Peace, I'm sorry you haven't been able to find work. I know how scary that can be. I'd LOVE to live in the country and your cabin sounds lovely! We're in the midst of it now but its only wind and rain. There is some interesting booming sound that can't be identified. At first I thought it was the recycle truck but that's not it. Guess we'll find out if its something to be worried about later. We have our "biggest flea market in the us" tomorrow also. Where are you located? Are you going? Wouldn't it be something if we passed each other at the tables, lol?!! The keyboard has arrived and already paired. Its pretty and functional. I'm so glad that I did everything that needed to be done yesterday. This weather is not o be trifled with. I have my doors open to watch it play out and am so thankful neither me or the hubby have to go out in it. I hope I can persuade Kizzy to go do her business between rain drops. She does have a way about shutting down her bodily functions for LONG stretches of time. Amazing really. On the agenda for today, watching Netflix, eating, drinking wine and tea, reading up on Descarte, going over my biology notes and pleasure reading. This is pretty much what my weekend will consist of!
  15. Yaayyyyy, SEPTEMBER!!!!!!!! I am SOOO happy to see the end of August! Interesting really, as I was born in August, our daughter, a granddaughter sever friends and family. Yet, its my least favorite month. Too hot and too long. One long month of just too much! Did some shopping this morning. I had to return a wireless keyboard as it wasn't compatible with a tablet (after asking a sales clerk if it WAS). I ended up having to order one off of amazon and it will arrive tomorrow. I wanted one for class. My biology class is entirely on powerpoint. I can do my notes from my tablet with the keyboard which means I'll take better notes. After making the return I picked up some weekend goodies for me and the hubby. We were supposed to go out of town for a weekend college football game but most of the Southeastern coast is under hurricane watch. As he took this weekend off for vacation (starting tonight) we'll just make this a romantic extended weekend, steaks, chocolate, grapes, fancy cheeses, wine. I'm also going to learn to play poker! I bought Jenga and we'll play dominoes and a few other games that we've let the dust collect on.
  16. My "fur-grand," Bella just died. Heartbroken.
  17. RIP, Gene Wilder (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). I really loved his offbeat humor and quirkiness.
  18. Thank you Lau, It's really heartbreaking because the vet wants $200 upfront. Bella won't last the day. She's suffering. My daughter and son in law are devastated and the grands are just torn up. The blood sucking leaches (vets) can't be humane enough to help them out. It amazes me to see/hear people go on and on about animal rights but when it comes down to it, its all about the money. Its business. They loved this fur baby and its tearing them apart that they can't send her off gently. Its tearing me apart also. Only in America...you kick a dog, you go to jail. Let a dog die, you go to jail. If a vet refuses service, its just business. You know a nation by how they treat children, sick, elderly and animals. Here we know our dollar value.
  19. Its a bit overcast here and not so muggy. We just had a quick "spit" of rain. I call it a "spit" because it makes you stop and wonder, did water just actually come out of the sky? And if it did, where did it go? I will probably need to put my rain boots in my truck. When it rains downtown (where my classes are located) it doesn't take much for a good feet soaking. I have a STRONG aversion to wet leather sandals and squishy sneakers.
  20. It's pretty interesting, like the British History magazine. It was the BH magazine that got me interested in the AH magazine. I don't have a subscription. I only purchase the ones that have interesting stories.
  21. Take it easy Flip. Noll, great going with the yard work. Future reference...wear slacks and sleeves when cutting grass. I'm a bit tired. We went to visit my mom this weekend and got home yesterday. My bed at her house was hard as a board. Probably because she had a board between the mattress and box spring. I had gone to bed early as I did the driving. I was asleep about 3.5 hours when my dd hit me up on Facebook messenger so I could see our 2 year old celebrate her birthday. There's three hours difference as they are West Coast and we are East Coast. I couldn't get back to sleep and realized that as long as I was bone tired the mattress didn't matter. When awake, I felt it all. We went to church the next day and I had to deal with a headache and stiff neck. Drove back home and got all comfy in bed. At 0300 this morning dd called again. This time she was distraught. Seems that the German Shepard puppy (she's about 9 months) was really sick over the weekend. It appears she has parvo and isn't expected to live. The thing is, the family they got Bella from had to have known she was sick. Now my daughter and her family have to say good bye to this beautiful pup. The vet is super expensive and she's too far gone now. I pray she's not in pain. She's the prettiest thing and really smart. My grandson is really attached to her. He's on the autism spectrum and she really helps him cope. After a restless sleep I had my biology lab this morning. Had a hellofa time trying to find parking, got to class 20 minutes late and was behind for the rest of the class. I think I'm going to try and catch a nap before my 1530 class begins. I just know that the moment I doze, dd will call about Bella....
  22. I'd do it also. I've seen some really creative homes and most people who have them aren't necessarily strapped for home buying cash, they like the flexibility of being able to pick up their homes and move. They want to leave less carbon printing on the earth and like the minimalist lifestyle. I do however, see that this could definitely help with the homeless situation.
  23. Just finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
  24. HOT, HOT, HOT! Who's ready for Fall?!
  25. So glad you're on the mend QK! What a harrowing experience! Noll, have you come out of your pizza coma yet? I've been pretty busy with school. It does seem like I spend more time in my truck getting to class and looking for parking, than I do in the actual class. I've walked about 20 miles total so far (and I haven't gone to today's class yet). I am really enjoying Biology/lab and Philosophy. Got lots of stuff accomplished this week. I cleaned out my shed and laundry area and had a guy come and haul away the the junk. That was the last beast to tame since moving here. I can now say that the spring/autumn cleaning is complete! Since the grands have been gone I have been able to get the house in order. Last weekend I did carpets, furniture, truck interior. Anybody ready for Fall?!
