The Last Film You Saw ~ Part 2

The other night we went to see the new version of Red Dawn, it was familiar, and I knew I'd seen the original film some years ago. Well, we checked Amazon, and sure enough it was free streaming for us, so we watched the 1984 version with Patrick Swayze. The same night, just for clarity's sake.

Wow. The original, made in 1984 was so much more realistic than the new version. IF something like that had happened I mean. Realism is in the eye of the beholder many times, so take that term as you wish.

The new one was almost an "air-brushed" version of the old. Oh, yes, it had it's rousing moments, and some good performances, but still, the sequence and timing of the events was just too fast and too pat for me.

Last night we watched, at home, Purple Noon. It's based on Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr. Ripley.

They changed so much, it wasn't even that close. Alain Delon was so young, I think it was his first major role. He is the one that Highsmith reportedly liked as Ripley, but for me he didn't really catch the "bumblyness" of Tom Ripley. Just me I suppose.

Had a Christmas movie fest yesterday and watched While You Were Sleeping, Christmas With The Cranks and the wonderful The Family Stone. xmassmile.gif

I recently picked up The Family Stone in a charity shop for £1. I quite forgot it is a Christmas film thanks for reminding me Claire I will watch that over Chrimbo

We watched Rare Exports last night. What a disappointment! Had it been some foreign movie, I wouldn't have continued with it all the way to the end, but because it's a Finnish film I thought I'd make the effort. That's a few hours I'll never get back. And there were no dogs, either.

Some Christmassy films...

Holiday Affair with Robert Mitchum (swoon) and Janet Leigh - one of my favourite Christmas movies.

Christmas In Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan - another fab film, but I had to watch it in segments.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - so funny! Love this film :)

Watched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol again yesterday - my sort of action film, over the top ridiculous, not too much blood, and a bit funny as well. Oh, and Tom Cruise. :smile2:

I loved this film! Loved the bit in Dubai when Tom Cruise is climbing on the building with those special gloves. So awesome! I think all the Mission Impossible films are great entertainment. :boogie:

I'm really annoyed that I've/we've started watching a few movies this Christmas but have managed to watch only one from start to finish (and that was Rare Exports, bleh). We started watching Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix but didn't finish because the news came on  and then I started watching Casper the Friendly Ghost movie (I don't know what it's really called, it's the one with whatshername, not Mena Suvari but... that really famous actor) which I was actually really liking, to my astonishment, but then, again, someone grabbed the remote control and changed the channel. I did get to watch the Emil movie til finish but I didn't catch it from the start :D It was good, though. Astrid Lindgren rules.

Anyhow, I'm very much looking forward to going to Joensuu tomorrow, so I can watch whatever I want whenever I want. There's the Scott Pilgrim movie on TV this Friday, and a Risto Räppääjä movie on Saturday, and I also bought some Todd Solonz movie on DVD so I have that to look forward to as well.

I watched a couple of Aussie flicks at my parents' house. The first was Two Hands, which stars Heath Ledger and is set in Sydney. It's about a small-time crook who gets into trouble with big-time crooks. It's very, very funny. The second flick was the much newer The Sapphires, about a group of Aboriginal women who form a singing group and go to Vietnam to sing for the soldiers during the war. Excellent movie. Funny and heartwarming.

Midnight Run this afternoon - so funny! Hadn't seen it for a few years, but it's one of the few films I like Robert De Niro in, and I think it's one of those films that went under the radar a bit, but definitely worth watching, even now! :smile2:

I love that film  I never really had any time for De Niro until I saw that, but it changed my opinion of him somewhat

Alonzo Mosely, FBI! :giggle2:

Jo Nesbo's Headhunters with english audio. The lead actor was good in the part.

I think the guy who played Greve was good too (Game of thrones?) I enjoyed it and it compared quite well with the book.

Really want to see that one.

Saw The Hobbit yesterday in 3D. I loved it. Martin Freeman is fantastic as Bilbo Baggins, the dwalves are wonderful and the wizard Radagast the Brown stole the show for me.

Could have done with an intermission, I was feeling a bit wriggly and it would have been good to stretch your legs and uncross your eyes during such a long film. But I managed to sustain myself by eating two packets of Jaffas (and didn't drop a single one)

Not even on purpose? :( Isn't the whole point of Jaffas that you're supposed to roll them down the aisle? :giggle:

I'm too much of a Jaffa addict to even consider wasting a single one!! :negative: And besides, they've spoilt the whole spilling Jaffas accidentally/on purpose fun by carpeting everywhere.

Hope you enjoy it too Kylie :)
