Karsa Orlong Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I'm glad you didn't take it to mean that I was implying you're Nobody I did, I just chose to ignore you
Pixie Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I guess I'll have to take your word for it! Rush is a relative new band to me, so I'm not too upset. (And I'll just have to take comfort in having seen Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Anathema, Opeth and Korn live ) However, having heard the rumour now, I would definitely buy a ticket if Rush were to play for both people and dogs - their two target audiences! Two of my favorite things: good music and dogs Here is the thing about Rush. Everybody knows that Geddy Lee doesn't have the best singing voice you ever heard, but he has gotten better over time. But the musicianship of this band is phenomenal, and I personally think Neil Peart is a brilliant lyricist and also the hardest working drummer out there. I just listened to Watershed by Opeth twice, once over the speakers, and once with my headphones to personalize it. If this is NOT their best album, I am really looking forward to purchasing the rest of their catalog. This album was absolutely gorgeous. I am in awe. I was worried that because their songs were so long, they would be like Dream Theater, who are amazing technically, I guess, but bore me to tears. I wasn't bored once listening to the Opeth album.

He certainly hits them hard enough [fanboi-mode on] They are the best live band I've seen (but you already knew that!). All three of them are awesome musicians (Alex Lifeson is the most underrated guitarist in rock music, imo -- there's more emotion in his playing than any other guitarist I can think of). And the Gedster -- everything revolves around him. He's amazing! I provide the evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5nsnIpoyHk&feature=related It's quite fun, at their gigs, just watching other people's slack-jawed, mesmerised reactions to their playing. I freely admit to slight bias here, being a fan for over 30 years ... [/fanboi-mode off] Which reminds me -- the dvd/blu-ray of the Cleveland show from the Time Machine tour is out in October, yay! So glad you like it! It's a great album, but wait till you hear Blackwater Park and Still Life ... Totally with you on Dream Theater. I used to be a fan. Then I grew up. Well, sort of
frankie Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 I did, I just chose to ignore you Wise move, fanboi! I believe I don't have Watershed on me, should do some serious music acquiring in the near future. Darn! I'm taking a break from working on thesis, so am having coffee and blasting Korn.

Rawr Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Hey Karsa, what did you think of Mastodon's Crack The Skye?
Karsa Orlong Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Hey Karsa, what did you think of Mastodon's Crack The Skye? I really like it, there's some great stuff on there. It's pretty proggy, which suits me, moreso than Blood Mountain, I think. How about you?
Karsa Orlong Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Absolutely loving this at the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AfrELESqSY
Rawr Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Oh yeah it's a massive change from Blood Mountain but you can see how they got there, they have a unique sound as it is but throwing something totally adventurous and epic like that along with the abrasive style of theirs and it's always a winner! It took me about a month to get into properly but then again it took me about three months to figure out what had just ran me over when I heard Leviathan
Chrissy Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 My big bro sent me a signed copy of 'Ghosts Of The Past' by Aussie band Eskimo Joe . I drove a 20 mile detour this morning just so I could listen to it properly. Such a good cd. I may not be listening to it right now, but one of the songs is yet to leave my head ~ does that count?

Crack the Skye's certainly got my attention back, though

frankie Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Listening to the baseball game on the radio currently. Twins vs. the Chicago White Sox . I was so sure that you'd say Red Hot Chili Peppers, when I saw this thread and noticed you were the last person to post
Peacefield Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I was so sure that you'd say Red Hot Chili Peppers, when I saw this thread and noticed you were the last person to post I haven't received my CD yet, so I haven't had the pleasure of hearing the new tunes. Hopefully in a couple of days! I know they were streaming it on iTunes, but I'm weird about it because I don't want to hear anything until I actually have the CD in my hands, if that makes sense.
sod Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 At the moment I've been getting into the new Goyte CD Making Mirrors and have this track stuck in my head

That makes perfect sense, I would be the same! I hope you get it ASAP!! You deserve it
Peacefield Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Thanks, Frankie! Right now I'm listening to the news and waiting for the football game to start in about half an hour. Go Vikes!
poppyshake Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Fleet Foxes - Mykonos I Love the Fleet Foxes Since hearing him at Glastonbury, I haven't stopped listening to Ed Sheeran .. he's like one of the Weasley's with a loop pedal There is a more produced track but I like the acoustic one best.
