Sheeta Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 You can't hear me, what a shame, but I swear I can say it xD It's the Eyjafjallaj
poppyshake Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Just finished Roopa Farooki's The Way Things Look To Me and though I liked it, it didn't absorb me in the same way as the last four books I've read. I felt the quality of writing/story telling had dipped a bit. Started The Road by Cormac McCarthy .. the quality has gone up again
Charm Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I finished Burned on Friday and that's about the sum total of my reading this weekend - oh hang on I read the Chinese take-away leaflet that came through the door. Aw hope your mojo picks up again soon Cookie Up to chapter 25 of Cold Granite, what a damn good read. I never thought such a gruesome topic could provide such an entertaining read. Probably one of the best books I've read.Jim It's the start of a great series too Jim, glad you enjoyed it so much I finished Circus of the Damned by Laurell K Hamilton, very enjoyable read and will definately be getting the rest of the series. I've also nearly finished Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione, a series this time about demons and other supes, pretty enjoyable too, something similar to the J R Ward series.
Kylie Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I would have no idea what to say without sounding cheesy, stupid and feeling rude for disturbing him at work I'll see what happens, I may bump into him in the shop you never know. You should carry Perdido Street Station around with you everywhere, just in case. I zipped right through The Silver Swan by Benjamin Black over the weekend, terrific writer, one of these days I'm going to have to try one of his literary works as John Banville. I've only read one of Banville's novels, The Book of Evidence, and I thought it was absolutely brilliant. He immediately became one of my favourite authors and I have a lot more of his books on my TBR pile.
Nicola Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I bought Merrick by Anne Rice today Hoping to start it tomorrow.
MountainGirl Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I started reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo today. So far its all right. At first I struggled to get into it, but it looks like its going to get better.. I'm excited to continue my reading when I wake up in the morning!!
Kylie Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I received A Scanner Darkly by Philip K Dick in the mail today. I finally feel as though I'm making some real progress with Wicked. I'm enjoying it a lot more now that Elphaba has grown up a bit.
Kate Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I'm also reading Wicked today! Read a few pages a minute ago but about to curl up on the sofa for some serious reading time
Cookie Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Aw hope your mojo picks up again soon Cookie I finished Circus of the Damned by Laurell K Hamilton, very enjoyable read and will definately be getting the rest of the series. Thanks Charm:). Glad you like the Anita Blake series. A warning though, it does dissolve into porn. It doesn't bother me - I like cheap thrills but I know not everyone does. I read some of Portrait of Mr W.H. last night and started The Book Thief - Markus Zuzak as some light relief, although light is probably not how you would describe a book set in Nazi Germany and narrated by Death himself.

chesilbeach Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 After more BCF "advice", I'm now hooked on the Anita Blake series and am trailing along behind Charm Finished The Laughing Corpse last night and have just reserved the next installment at the library. Couldn't resist starting Burned during my lunch break, and am 70 pages in already I don't think I'll be able to put it down this evening once I pick it up, so making sure I catch up with all the goings on here first!

Chrissy Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I've just started 'Alphabet' by Kathy Page, a new to me author. My brother knows the author, and wanted me to read this before I send it on to him. Fingers cross I will like it!
frankie Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Thanks Kylie and chrysalis_stage for your sympathy I was really doubtful of Wicked through the first couple of pages/chapters but now I'm really starting to enjoy the novel to my utter surprise! I have no idea where the story is heading but I'm happy to be reading it (Anyone who's reading the novel: In the second Galinda chapter (starting from page 86 in my edition), what does Galinda call Elphaba when E is reading her books and not noticing anything else? I have a Finnish copy and I'd like to know the English word for it. It's something to do with books/reading).
Ceinwenn Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I started reading No Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay last night, then picked it up again this morning. I'm loving it!
Sheeta Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I have read a lot of The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory last night, from 22:00 to 23:15 (oh my god I had to stop at 23:00 I'm a rebel ), so there are a hundred pages left. I will finish it quickly, and then... I'll read Alone by Lisa Gardner!
pontalba Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Last night I finished One Second After by William R. Forstchen. A post-apocalyptic novel that tries really hard, and for the most part succeeds, although it is written in somewhat of a dry tone. I suppose that dryness, or distance is necessary, otherwise it could have become a real tear jerker of a story. No happy endings here. Not sure what I'll pick up next.
rach.at.the.disco Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Read some more of Julie and Julia - Julie Powell today.
green Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Borrowed Resistance by Alan Savage Bought Hidden Depths by Ann Cleeves White Nights by Ann Cleeves Outcast by Michelle Paver The Railway Detective by Edward Marston
Charm Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 After more BCF "advice", I'm now hooked on the Anita Blake series and am trailing along behind Charm Finished The Laughing Corpse last night and have just reserved the next installment at the library. Good news too, there is roughly about 18 books in the Anita Blake series, we may start saving now! I have to say though, I love the titles, the next one for me is The Lunatic Cafe
