bookworm44 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Haha, it's a really impressive list isn't it Glad to have you on board, there are a lot of amazing reads and if you feel like it, do follow which books we are thinking about reading on this thread and join the reading group! Edit: I'd like to try and read LotR this summer and if anyone's up for that I'd be glad to have other people joining in! Absolutely! I would have loved to read theThe Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby along with you all, but none of the libraries in my area had it. =( Quote
AbielleRose Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Hello lovely Roryites! Sadly, I still have not gotten around to even starting The Polysyllabic Spree or The Bell Jar *runs and hides* Therefore I'll probably be sitting out whatever you decide to read next month. Er... I love you? When you all get a chance (for those who read those two books) Will you please post your rating of them (on a scale of 1-5) and I'll tally them up and add the group's average rating on the first page (yeah, I know, I haven't added them yet for the other books but I'm working on it! Promise!) Quote
Kylie Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I haven't read Hornby's book yet either. Hopefully I'll get to it during July. I've read The Bell Jar in the past and I would rate it 4 out of 5. Quote
lauraloves Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 hmm i wouldnt mind having a go at some of the books on the list when other people are having a go aswell if thats all ok:blush: Quote
Lucybird Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Ooops I forgot about that. The Bell Jar 4.5/5 The Complete Polysylabbic Spree- 4.5/5 Quote
frankie Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Have now finished The Bell Jar. I really enjoyed it (if enjoyed is the right word) and the writing was amazing. I've put a review up on my blog and my thread. I thought the same - enjoyed it but wasn't sure enjoyed is the right word! I'm waiting for Perks of Being A Wallflower to come back into the library. Would anyone like to read it with me? I know what you mean; the writing is amazing but the other stuff, can you think of it as enjoying something? My personal problem was that I forgot it was about her trying to take her life and I got bored along the way. I would be happy to join in with Perks of Being a Wallflower, too. Frankie, maybe we could have a mini-group with Leaves of Grass some time if your library has it? Perks of Being a Wallflower was a really amazing read and it's made me want to re-read the book it always referred to, I've forgotten the name. It was so good I wouldn't mind re-reading it as a group-reading. Ooshie, I've haven't yet researched whether the local library has the book or not, I'll look into it Edit: I'd like to try and read LotR this summer and if anyone's up for that I'd be glad to have other people joining in! Here here! Edit: Abby! I'll post my -/5 when I'm less drunkish Edited June 26, 2010 by frankie Quote
Scoopalicious Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 I absolutely adore this show and even though I knew Rory was a complete bookworm I hadn't actually realised just how many books were mentioned on the show. That is some list and there's definitely a few that caught my interest. I shall be keeping an eye on this thread and may join in now and again if that's okay. Quote
AbielleRose Posted June 26, 2010 Author Posted June 26, 2010 We'd love to have you join, Scoop Gilmore Girls is such a great show, too bad they cancelled it! Quote
Ooshie Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Ooshie, I've haven't yet researched whether the local library has the book or not, I'll look into it Any time frankie, just whenever it suits you if they have it Quote
frankie Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 (edited) Any time frankie, just whenever it suits you if they have it Deal I've just finished The Dirt by Mtley Cre and I'd recommend it to anyone who's into bios (of bands) and who's not scared of a "little" curse word here and there. It's definitely not for easily disturbed people! Otherwise it's just great, some of the things the band members did were gross and definitely not in any way appropriate, but they do grow on you and I was rooting for each of them in the end. This book's made me want to read other band bios and stuff. 5/5 from me Edit: I was going through the earliest posts on this thread and I didn't notice a thread where we can see how we've rated each of the books we've read. Did we forget to create such a post or have I missed something? Edited August 6, 2010 by Janet Quote
Lucybird Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I need to get my hands on The Dirt, I had a quick look in Waterstones and couldn't spot it, it is on Amazon though, but I'd rather borrow it than buy really. Quote

Did we forget to create such a post or have I missed something? That's my fault! I have them all written down in a notebook and was waiting on a couple people's reviews of the Feb-(onward) books before posting them on the same post that has which books we read in what month. AbielleRose Posted June 27, 2010 Author Posted June 27, 2010 :smile2:Attention all Roryites! If you have not yet done so would you please either post your rating (1-5) of the books you've read so far for the Rory Gilmore Challenge or PM them to me. Its perfectly fine if you do not wish to include your rating. I'll be going back to the first page and adding them next to the books on Wednesday, so please have them to me before that time if you do wish to contribute yours. Thank you! Quote
Kate Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Sorry Abby, forgot to put in my ratings: Polysyllabic Spree: 3/5 The Belljar: 4/5 Quote

Ach so! No worries Abby Ooshie, the local library has an English copy of Leaves of Grass, yay! I'll be picking it up sometime this week. I'll let you know when I'm about to start reading it Ratings: Gone with the Wind 5/5 Wurthering Heights 2/5 The Crimson Petal and White 2/5 Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West 2/5 The Polysyllabic Spree 4/5 The Bell Jar 3/5 Edited June 28, 2010 by frankie Quote
Ooshie Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 frankie, your library is the best! I will look forward to it Quote
frankie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Ooshie, it is isn't it? I didn't really expect them to have English copies, and they actually had two! Yay I borrowed it on Tuesday but haven't started it yet because had to finish Peyton Place and have to read Alice in Wonderland for reading circle now. I took a quick look at the book though and it did throw me off a little, it's not a collection of short poems which I might make through, but these are volymous stuff that goes on and on. I'm a bit intimidated by it, I have to admit, but I'll give it a go anyways, after Alice in Wonderland Quote
Ooshie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'm a bit apprehensive about it myself, I'm not very good at reading poetry, but I'm kind of looking forward to it at the same time as taking myself out of my comfort zone and trying something different. If that makes sense! Like you, I will have to read Alice first, though - and I'm trying hard to finish Possession before starting Alice (only about 150 pages to go!) Quote
frankie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'm no good at reading poetry either, so we'll both find ourselves out of our comfort zone I think it's only a good thing though, there's not much room for learning about new stuff if you only read the things you're comfortable with. That's one of the reasons why I like this RG challenge; I've read so many books that I wouldn't usually read, and I've found some real gems because of it. I don't regret any of the books I've "had" to read for this challenge I hope you enjoy Possession, and Alice in Wonderland too. AiW is one of those novels I feel like I should've read ages ago, it being a classic, but I've always thought it would be a really boring and annoying tale so I've steered clear away from it. I'm rather enjoying it though Quote
Ooshie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Me too, I have deliberately avoided reading Alice over the years. Good to know you are enjoying it! I am not going to finish Possession before I start Alice - I am going for a lovely long bath now, and need a paperback to read while I am relaxing! (Sorry, Possession, I promise I will read more of you later tonight ) Quote
frankie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Ooshie, wow, I thought I was all alone in the 'avoid Alice at any cost' boat Nice to have company Now that we've established there is such a boat, do you think we should try and hate the book, just to keep things as they are? The boat shall be very lonely if we end up loving the novel Have a nice bath with Alice! It started off with a poem and I have to say I was sighing all the way when I read it, but then the actual story started and I was pleasantly surprised! Quote
Ooshie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Eek! More poems! Possession has big, long poems in it, too - well, by the end of the week I should definitely know if I can cope with poetry or not! We are definitely going to have to give matters careful thought before we decide to abandon our boat completely; it has given us many years of faithful service and deserves that much consideration Quote
frankie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Possession has big, long poems in it, too - well, by the end of the week I should definitely know if I can cope with poetry or not! Seriously? Poems here, poems there, poetry bloody everywhere! We'll never be the same way again... We are definitely going to have to give matters careful thought before we decide to abandon our boat completely; it has given us many years of faithful service and deserves that much consideration I should think so, yes! Especially since you and I've been on that same boat all these years, not knowing about each other, probably sitting back to back, quite possibly rowing in different directions. No wonder we were going nowhere with it I forgot to mention in my last post that even if you should not enjoy Alice that much, at least it's a short novel, maybe 110 pages or so, and with pics as well! I have no doubts you should be able to finish it Quote
Brida Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I've finally taken a look at the list, and I've read about 15 books from the ones mentioned; compared to the total number - LOL. Anyway, I've noticed The Divine Comedy as well as Inferno by Dante listed, as far as I remeber Inferno is a part of The Divine Comedy so it does make the list shorter Quote
